List of AL managers that Gibbons is definitely better than:

Showalter

Bannister

Farrell

Ausmus

Scioscia

Molitor

Yost

Ventura (whacked)

I mean, are people watching other teams this year? Some of these guys are unfathomably bad. They do unspeakable things like let Aybar hit 2nd all year or Escobar leadoff. Or they choose Jimenez over Britton. Scioscia is literally what people think Gibbons is. I don't give a f*** what anyone here says, none of you would swap Gibbons for any of those guys.

I agree with you, but that doesn't mean we have to settle for Gibbons. We can find someone better

I think a team managed by someone like john Maddon has this team more mentally prepared for this series than did gibbons

Or Pete Carroll

Yeah or Ken Carter

yeah this is definitely john gibbons' fault

have any you watched the last 3 games? I am not a fan of gibby at all but this isn't on him whatsoever.

Yeah the offense is most definitely at fault. He does make some dumb decisions that are most certainly magnified in huge games like this. He either doesn't know that certain starters of his really struggle against the lineup the third time though or he does know that and he chooses to risk it anyway for some reason that he'd have to explain.

I would think the Jays had discussed what they'd do about Bauer. I would honestly find it odd that they wouldn't have discussed several scenarios prior to the game.

Bauer had walked 2 guys and Gibbons comes out to ask that he be removed when Francona didn't? That's really something right there.

Thats the difference between between good management and bad. Francona goes through scenarios. He thinks ahead. Do you think Gibbons actually went through any of those scenarios prior to the game?

All i see is " Gibbons didnt lose the game" .".it's not Gibbons fault"..

Let's say the above is true. Do we want to settle for a manager that doesnt lose a game or do you want a manager that puts the team in the best position to win. I dont get the love of mediocrity

As I said, I would think "they" i.e., the f/o and coaching staff. Anyway...

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but Shapiro said that Gibby would be back next season in his interview with Brunt. He was surprisingly forthright with that information.

Who are your top managerial candidates to replace Gibbons this offseason?

I'm sure someone else will answer before you because if I had to guess you don't have the slightest clue. But it's easy to point fingers and blame everyone else for being content with mediocrity.

Shapiro is smart enough that if he replaced Gibbons it would be for an upgrade. He's not going to replace him with someone who he thinks would do a terrible job. Bud Black I think would be a fantastic choice and an upgrade over Gibbons.

I think Shapiro and Atkins want it to work with Gibbons and are trying to get him to be more progressive. But at the end of the day if they feel like he is still choosing his gut over the numbers they will replace him with someone who shares their same mindset.

If the team can't hit through the entire line up, what's a manager got to do with it? Get rid of EE, Bautista, Martin, Tulo. Rebuild like the leafs, and wait another 20 yrs to get back.

It wasn't just the Stroman thing either...

Cecil facing Napoli (which worked out, but still)

Navarro being allowed to run while Pompey sits on the bench

Meanwhile, Francona is acing every test with his perfect usage of Miller through the playoffs and then, the cherry on top, reversing the Allen/Miller dynamic to get maximum innings from them while conserving the workhorse Miller. Gibby obviously isn't getting much to work with, to be fair, but you still have to goddamn play the cards you're dealt ffs. Down by two and letting your lefty face a lefty killer with a guy on is just a facepalm. October 17, not April 17.

His post season management is f***ing terrible, Grant. Horrifying!

The last 3 years Cecil has a strikeout rate higher than 30% and an FIP and xFIP of under 3 vs RHB. Considering the aleternative was bringing in Osuna early (again) it was fine for him to face Napoli.

Letting Stroman face the 3rd time order was stupid though.

Anyone who things managers don't effect team success have a look at what Joe Maddon did with perennial losers Tampa and now the Cubs.

That's like 99% on their front offices and maybe 1% on their managers.

Honestly, the John madden idea is growing on me. I'd love to see him out there giving the ump s***

Yeah, lets not try to hire someone good. Other teams are employing s***** managers, so by god, the Jays should keep theirs!

Yeah, it's amazing that Maddon brought the Cubs into the post-season with that team full of hacks, losers and has-beens filling up the roster.

I'd like to see him go, but don't really care if he stays. Like it's been mentioned, could be a lot worse.

Brook Jacoby however HAS to go. The offense should have been way better this year.

Bauer walked two batters and had blood squirting out of his finger. Francona did not move in the dugout. Yet, Gibbons (seeing his team with an actual chance to score) makes the decision for Cleveland. True managerial genius.

Yeah, I was kind of hoping that Bauer was going to keep going there. Could easily see him either throwing a meatball; walking someone; or hitting someone.

How did the 2008 jays team, who could barely muster up 1 run a game, all of sudden start hitting with a new manager and coaches? They had the same players throughout the year

Gibbons seems like he's just along for the ride. Doesnt seem to be able to lead, prepare or motivate players

It is not a managers job to have to motivate a professional ball player to get up and play in a playoff game.

That is what a player and a team has to be able to do for themselves a this stage in the game, man up!

No coach, Gibby needs to swing the bat, catch the ball or hold a professional ball players hand out there to get it done!!!

I don't think Shapiro will take the PR hit for a minor upgrade a good mananger would bring over Gibby. If they missed the playoffs or maybe even lost the WC game then they could, but you can't fire a manager right after the team makes it into the ALCS.
