Lil Looper Verified Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Hes having a bad year but his past numbers were always top notch this is good
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Man that announcement came at the perfect timing. Can't hate on the move, hopefully it turns out like Grilli.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Still striking out a ton. I like it.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Hmmm can't be worse than Storen
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Hes having a bad year but his past numbers were always top notch this is good so exactly like drew storen?

It smells so much like the Grilli trade. Interesting. Benoit is still throwing as hard as ever. He has a long track record of being quite good. Just seems like a random BB spike in 24 innings this year.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 What's the salary difference? Storen is 8.4 and Benoit is 8.
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Storen is 8.4 and Benoit is 8. Thanks so no savings.
closetjaysfan Verified Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Some more exp for the bullpen. Wish he was LHP but cant do worse than Storen
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Didn't the Jays completely destroy him in Detroit a couple of years ago. That's my foremost memory of Benoit.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Wow we probably got as much cash to offset Storens salary which would be damn good This looks like Grilli A LOT. Great success before, high K#s and for some reason high BB#... How has his velo been?
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Shatkins is so refreshing. So many shrewd little moves.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 I think a guy to target is Joaquin Benoit. He's a lot like Grilli, a veteran that maintained his velocity and K's, but saw a spike in his walks. We could probably get him for salary relief. Posted in general discussion last week.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Didn't the Jays completely destroy him in Detroit a couple of years ago. That's my foremost memory of Benoit. Gave up game tying GS to Papi in 2013 CS. He's a choker under pressure. s*** trade.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 Posted in general discussion last week. Nice call, Grant.
Inklink Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Shatkins only trades with visiting teams.

GreekFatAss Verified Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Might as well plug him at the back of the pecking order and see if he can pull a Grilli. At least he still throws hard right?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Wow we probably got as much cash to offset Storens salary which would be damn good This looks like Grilli A LOT. Great success before, high K#s and for some reason high BB#... How has his velo been? Still averaging 94.5 with his fastball

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Thanks so no savings. No but when you DFA a guy, you have to be pretty happy just to not be taking a loss. This is a worthwhile swap. I'd rather give the 8 million to the guy with the K/9 over 10.
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Author Posted July 27, 2016 I like it though. Seems like he's a command tweak away from being good again - or he's still good and the BB spike is just random variance (entirely possible). Could really go either way though. Storen could be good again. Benoit could be good again. Just a good trade for both teams.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2016 Posted July 27, 2016 Grilli part 2. Benoit's velocity is right where it normally is. His struggles in 2016 could just be a small sample size, whereas Storen lost mph on his FB and was giving up a s*** ton more hard contact than he ever had before. Lateral move, but might be an upgrade.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
