One negative aspect is that Gibby had quit using Storen but now he'll immediately throw Benoit in to high leverage situations just because he can.

Well, I hate Gibbons, but he did that with Grilli and it worked out. I don't expect it to work out as well with Benoit, but yeah, he'll probably do it. Veteran presentz and all.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Seattle's front office is pretty astute, and they have their reasons for thinking Storen will be better. It's really just a challenge trade.

Idk man we traded a guy who lost velo on his fastball who while he still has a wicked slider, can't locate his meatball anywhere and even if he does its gone, because it's a straight high 80's fastball. We got a dude who's K'ing people at 10 per 9 and walking way above his career norm with his velocity in the mid 90s just like last year when he was good. I have reason to believe he'll turn around for us, they probably just gave up on him and seen that he still gets good action on his slider and said f*** it nothing to lose

But man Benoit hadn't lost anything like Storen lost velo, this is like the Grilli trade. I think this will play big in the postseason if he finds his groove

Benoit can be lights out. He needs a Bird environment.

What scouting report? I'm pretty sure he means "cut" when Storen was DFA'd?

I didn't like cutting him for nothing... turns out we acquired Benoit, bonus. Not hard, meat.

lol my mistake, thought it was Spank's crazy talk as in cut of his jib. Read it wrong.

It's Osuna at the top because he's clearly the best. Then Gibby ranks them in descending order starting with the oldest. Grilli is 39 and 8 months, Benoit just turned 39. So Grilli gets the 8th and Benoit gets the 7th.

Did you get the trade proposal I sent you yesterday and then canceled?

I didn't see it no.

Or Cecil and Biagini... Benoit has excelled in that role, like forever.

2nd rounder for Bud Norris.

I'm unsure why you are telling me this if you canceled the offer.

Also, I see it now. The following people can suck a big bag of veiny dicks: Spanky, King, GD.

lol @ this thread. Two ageing, struggling relief pitchers with identical salaries. Determining which one will be more valuable over the next 20 innings is pretty much the closest thing you get to a coin flip in baseball. Calling this a great move seems like a bit much.

P.S. This is good in retrospect of receiving absolutely nothing?

Offer is still on the table, but I've been offering similar deals around so I didn't want it sitting there for days.

Well, I'd like to counter with your inception, with a dump truck full of them veiny dicks. Have fun... ;)

I think it is really great trade..

Storen's average fastball velocity fell for almost 2mph from last year and his opponents batting average is 0.307.. Although his control is ok, it is not good that he is allowing too many hits.

Benoit has similar velocity from last year and he throws harder than Storen (94.0mph).. His opponents batting average is 0.211.. If he can find his control and minimize long balls.. He will be one of 7th inning guy.. or put in pressured situation

Can someone explain the Mariners side of this to me? Assuming Storen refused his assignment, wasn't he about to become a free agent? Couldn't the Mariners have had a shot at Storen for league minimum? Why take on the Storen salary? The only money they are saving here is the league minimum it would have cost to sign Storen. Did they really want him so bad that they couldn't risk him possibly going to another team? Unless they were already planning to DFA Benoit and considered him a sunk cost or unless there was already an agreement in place before the Storen DFA this doesn't really make sense to me.

The cash considerations are to offset the difference in Storens 8.4 to Benoit's 8. But I thought Washington was already paying the difference between Storen and Reveres 6.6.or did they just send us the 1.8 in cash at the time of the Revere/Storen swap instead of keeping that 1.8 on their books

It's not unforeseeable that they didn't want him to go to another team, they certainly claimed him in retrospect, to us getting Benoit. They obviously find him as an asset, mate. I'm sure plenty other clubs would have done the same. I didn't really see the understanding of us giving up on 30+ innings.

Do you ever sleep or are you on this message board 24/7?

Do you have a job?

Soria's away numbers are horrible in 2016, FIP 5.40 and only striking out 6.24k/9

I honestly would have a short leash here, we dont need to replace one game blower with another IMO
