Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 What are you talking about? The guy above me posted above me mentioned No more Strombo. Maybe you have him on ignore?
King Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 See what we need to do here at Rogers, is spend another gazillion dollars on hockey experts That is what Canadian Wants. Damn the numbers. More Kyper, More Millard, More Mclean....more more more Lets start breaking down Sharks vs Ducks, 2 hour pregame shows! 10 ANALYST PER SIDE MORE MORE MORE But no more George Stambapolous. I don't really understand what Strombo did to piss peoole off so much. To be fair I don't watch a ton of hockey night in Canada outside of actual game action. I like that I actually get to watch New York Rangers games without spending additional money. What are you talking about? I still don't get it. I'll go now. Are you dumn?
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 4m will be easy to make. There are only 81 home games in the regular season, so I think Rogers would be very happy to get to 3,200,000; that would be an average of lightly under 40,000 per game.

I expect mostly sell outs going forward. The team would have to go in a complete free fall for that not to happen. We have already seen 40k on Mondays before July.

We have already seen 40k on Mondays before July. I am afraid that it is still not possible. Including today's game they have an attendance of 1,502,677 + 45,962 in 40 games - http://espn.go.com/mlb/attendance . So if they drew sell outs of 49,282 for the remaining 41 games then they would have a total attendance of 1,502,677 + 45,962 + (41)*49,282 = 3,569,201

vdubmvp Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 The guy above me posted above me mentioned No more Strombo. Maybe you have him on ignore? Ah, there we go, that'll do it.
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I said it as a joke but 3.5 million would still be lovely. Yeah, that is what I thought, that you were being facetious. Just as an interesting side note: Only four teams have drawn over 4 million - New York Yankees (4 times), Toronto Blue Jays (3 times), Colorado Rockies (1 time) and New York Mets (1 time) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_League_Baseball_attendance_records . However, the new NY Yankees stadium and NY Mets Citi Field are both too small to draw over 4 million in 81 games, and even the Rogers Centre has fewer seats and can't draw 4 million in 81 games. Only Coors Field at 50,398 could possibly draw over 4 million of the 4 teams that previously drew 4 million. It is possible that no team will ever draw 4 million again in a regular season.
nextyear Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 There is quite a bit of information at the following link regarding past ballpark attendance - http://ballparksofbaseball.com/attendance.htm
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I go to around 20 games a year usually and I have noticed that weekday night games have seen a huge increase in fans showing up. I remember most times the weekend games would always do good but weekday games seemed to top out at 25,000 max, now week night games are getting packed, love it.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Are you dumn? To be fair, connecting Strombo from "George Stambapolous" is a bit of a stretch unless you know who he is and realize that RealAccountant badly misspelled his name. So he is the one to blame.
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Hey look AA saved the franchise This. Legit.
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I only started watching baseball in 2011, was the bluejays franchise actually in jeopardy?
CJ-Freeway Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I only started watching baseball in 2011, was the bluejays franchise actually in jeopardy? I dunno but they sucked since the early 2000's, and that stopped in 2015
Cyborg Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I dunno but they sucked since the early 2000's, and that stopped in 2015 Hey now. We were good in 2006!

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I dunno but they sucked since the early 2000's, and that stopped in 2015 There was a fundamental belief at the end of 2009 that the franchsie was in question Jpr and Godfrey regimes was counting free tickets in attendance and real numbers were averaging 15k. Television ratings were down the uniforms were no longer blue and the talent in the organization was 0. I remember we were 13th or 14th in AL once free tickets were accounted for. I even remember Toronto FC being covered before the Jays from most outlets
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I only started watching baseball in 2011, was the bluejays franchise actually in jeopardy? I don't think so
bones10 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 You've got to think any franchise that goes through 20 years of mediocrity is walking on ice.
West Texas Forever Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 I only started watching baseball in 2011, was the bluejays franchise actually in jeopardy? This is Toronto, not fair weathered separatist Montreal.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Hey look AA saved the franchise yes, Alex has packed 'em in, and credit Beeston for one big thing ... bringing back the blue to the Blue Jays with a logo that never should be changed again.

Yeah, well done to The gals and guys who fill the building, game after game. I only wish I could be one of them.
intrigid Verified Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 Television ratings were down the uniforms were no longer blue I think this detail is less talked about than it should be. The branding was terrible and the franchise had no sense of identity at all. Fans begrudgingly wore the Black Jays merchandise to show some level of support, but deep down everyone hated the uniforms. It was the product of Paul Godfrey trying to appeal to a younger generation, and it would have been cringeworthy if it wasn't so depressing. Like if your dad tried to lay down a 90s rap to impress your friends, or something. A couple of months into the 2012 season and you could hardly find anyone wearing black jays gear anymore. The redesign / rebirth of the classic uniform was long overdue. It brought the franchise and the entire fanbase together in unity. Now you see people wearing hats who aren't even baseball fans; they just love the look. Paul Beeston may have done more to save the franchise than saber nerds give him credit for.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I wore all the 2010 era jerseys and hats. I thought they were nice. The black uniform was stupid but the white and grey ones were nice. I think the hatred for the older JPR/Early AA jerseys is overstated. Don't get me wrong, I love the new ones more but I still think the grey and white uniforms were sharp and the hat logo was cool.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 I mean this looks pretty cool for an away uniform http://balanceoffood.typepad.com/.a/6a00e55214ffbe8834019b0471c8e3970d-pi and these uniforms were cool The only clusterf*** of it all is the black hats. Use a navy blue or a blue like the one on the jersey and it makes all the difference in the world.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 5, 2016 Posted July 5, 2016 ahhh that image above brings back nostalgia. Just happened to be the one that popped up on google. Too bad there wasn't a 2nd wildcard back then, who knows what might have happened.
