G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 3, 2016 Author Posted July 3, 2016 Stupid band wagoners. Theyre paying the bills
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Theyre paying the bills Tongue in cheek. Of course it's a good thing.
43211234 Verified Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Does it need to be? ?? I guess it doesn't technically need to be but if you're getting these attendance numbers, own the broadcast rights and get the viewership they do, and have strong merchandise sales across the country, I would really hope payroll goes up.
THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Payroll had better be in the $170M range next year. If it stays like this then I can't see Rogers' argument against it. Does it need to be? Why not? Strive for as high as possible. As long as they're still making a profit, give Shapiro/Atkins the world of resources.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Hey look AA saved the franchise

Team valuation will continue to go up huge, and we'll never know what viewership actually means to the team. But again, merchandise goes to revenue sharing. Not sure if the Jays got revenue from revenue sharing last year (they did from 2012 to 2014) but if they did that ended this year and the best they can do is net out at zero. Then there is the Canadian Dollar and increased expenses. In 2018 they get to re-negotiate the concession contract so increased attendance will help that considerably. So if you are talking about straight revenue from attendance numbers...yes that will go up. But at an average ticket price of $31 an increase of 450,000 people is what...just under $15M? This isn't meant to take away the buzz that there is for this team, increased attendance is great, and goes against the trend (new buildings, not winning, increases attendance by these types of large percentages).
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 That is what a 3rd consecutive year of meaningful baseball does We saved baseball in Toronto and all it cost was an now ace pitcher and a broken catcher

I wouldn't be surprised if your average fan spends $50+ in the stadium though.

Licenced merchandise is shared and Aramark gets the majority on the concession (I heard that the team makes 40% of the gross but have to pay the employees)

I do know that your average ticket price would be off though. Ive read that a sizeable percentage of ticket sales goes to the visiting team. Helps to be in the AL East.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I'm not certain, you know a lot more than I do when it comes to the financial side of things. it's not disclosed in the MLB at all. I judge things by NFL which many teams disclose their contracts. In 2018 they should do what a few NFL teams do and put bids out for different parts of the stadium. A separate RFP for the suites, the Flight Deck and then general concession.

A little competition would probably be good for the team and provide better quality and/or lower prices for the fans.

Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 IMHO....what the last year has shown Rogers is that to make money....you gotta spend money (aka a contending product on the field). No more taking ques from the Maple Leafs and their fans!
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Payroll had better be in the $170M range next year. LOL!!!!! Ya...that's gonna happen.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 Does it need to be? Why shouldn't it be, unless you're happy with Rogers lining their pockets instead of going for a championship.
TheGrandslamMan Verified Member Posted July 4, 2016 Posted July 4, 2016 It's absolutely fantastic seeing baseball excitement sweep the nation again! For years during this millennium you'd meet people and it would be like holy s***! You follow the Jays too!? Now everyone's on the bandwagon and it's a beautiful thing. Let's just hope that the boys make a playoff push/run again:D

I don't really understand what Strombo did to piss peoole off so much. To be fair I don't watch a ton of hockey night in Canada outside of actual game action. I like that I actually get to watch New York Rangers games without spending additional money. Edited July 4, 2016 by Jonn
