But AA gets the blame for the Dickey and Marlins trades when RA hasn`t repeated his Mets success and Josh Johnson fell off the cliff

AA traded two bluechip prospects for a guy that was close to 40 years old.

The Marlins deal, JJ was always a gamble, similar to when AJ Burnett was signed. Of course if he was lights out he could have helped us forget about what a bad trade in was.

AA tried high valued prospects for backloaded free agent contracts that could have been signed in free agency a year earlier.

I know we all love the Donaldson trade but imo it is hard to argue that Shapiro's overall body of work isn't far superior to AA's.

Apparently people are giving it a shot anyway.

J.P. tenure was a disaster. He also stated he would prefer to draft college players because they got to the big leagues quicker. Ignoring the fact that they probably had lower ceilings and started a string of a talentless farm system for several seasons.

Wow, didn't see this coming. Thanks for your hard work AA. On to the next...

Also, as others have speculated, the first thing that popped in my head was this leading to AA eventually becoming the GM of the potential future Montreal franchise.

And count me in on the "Goodbye Gibby" club. I'm actually really excited to see what unfolds over the next couple of months now...

Yeah I'm not sure why people are in this thread and over social media freaking out. AA seemed to be a good, improving GM but it's not like they're bringing in the Red Sox 1st base coach to replace him. I think Shapiro gets someone who he is completely on the same page with to replace him which would be fine.

I can see why this is upsetting to people, but scratching my head over how some seem to think this signals the death of the franchise.

Godfrey refused to go overslot (one of the few good things Beeston's arrival did). JP had no choice but to draft cheaper players, but that's not excuse for his failures though. He could have drafted better players, or hired better scouts. But if you expected him to do what AA was allowed to do (overslot, spend big internationally, etc), it was simply a different landscape at the time.

There is something to be said for potential in GMs too. AA started off as a stud, floundered and now is charging back into superstar level. Not just the Donaldson trade, but the Saunders and especially the Travis trade were huge. If Travis kept playing he could have potentially been one of the top 2b in the league this year, gotten for Anthony Gose. Even the Smoak move was a good gamble. Revere is a nice piece for the price as well. I know he uses analytics and I don't know what happened to him in that bad year, whether it was all him or pressure from above, but I look at it like a soft more slump. I think he has way more potential than Shapiro who hasn't done much in a weak central division. I'm not saying he has been bad, maybe even his work overall to date has been better, but if I'm looking at the future I'd rather AA.

So......AA is gone, Gibby probably is next, and the dump truck full of cash will be backed up to Price's house(I'm guessing)....interesting morning.

It would be absolutely shocking if an offer is made to Price.

We all know that's very very likely not true and not a fair argument against any GM in Toronto. Half the league's best players have us on their blacklist for a reason and most won't even consider coming here as free agents. Most of AA's moves were a way to get around the fact that players in the FA market don't give a s*** about us. Russell Martin came here because of money but he's also Canadian... Who's been our biggest FA signing since Clemens?

I doubt it and I sure hope not. We can get better value for the kind of money he will be demanding.

I think it's a guranteed now. Also, expect Sanchez and Osuna to come into spring competing for a starting job. Changes in philosophy will be coming.

There were ways around that. Spending on posting international talent, for example. Moving assets for free agent contracts was a terrible strategy.

I'm still not sure Price wants to stay here, so it might not matter.

This team does not seem setup to be run the way Shapiro wants to over the next few years. Hopefully they can find a few good valued pitchers if they are going this "value" route.

There's a guy on Twitter who posted some tidbits from a final Shapiro appearance on a Cleveland broadcast. He said he didn't favour the free agent route as it tends to cost you in the long term.

Not a promising sign for keeping Price.

For all the bashing being done about AA trading prospects, at least he drafted those prospects. Shapiro's drafting record is pretty awful.

I can't believe how awesome it is to go from that clown Beeston to a guy who talks intelligently about the market value of a win. If payroll hovers around the top-10 the Jays could become a perennially competitive team.

If we had a pitching staff I would agree....right now we have Stroman. We need 4 more starters for next year.

Wilner should keep his mouth shut. At some point, realize you are just a casual with the luckiest job in the world and stop acting like some knowledgeable analyst.

It will be nice watching Wilner squirm here. He basically jerked off Alex for 6 years, saying he'd give him a lifetime contract...and now because he's been suspended before, has to cut bait and defend the move, because, you know, he has none of his own opinions, and has to protect his job.

Because we were a last place team with a low payroll, no s*** no one wanted to come here. You approach these guys and say "Rogers has committed to building a playoff team and spending a s*** load of money. We're not just signign you, we're spending an additional $30M and we want to be in the playoffs this year and every year forward."

Much like the Marlins did themselves.

Stroman

Dickey

Hutchison

Potentially one of Osuna/Sanchez

Really they need 1 good starter and a #5 type like Colon

That could also be just as much on ownership as blaming AA.
