I have no idea where he heard it from but one of my friends said that Shapiro after getting hired made some jokes about how AA insisted they take Gomes.

Lol Jesus christ

Its simple. Shapiro told AA that Gibbons will be fire 100 % and AA giving the fact that Gibby his is secret lover told Shapiro that he will leave the team because he will never accept Gibbons to be fired

Of course he has.

Idk I find that pretty surprising. It might be scouting director or something but I'd be pretty shocked if Friedman held AA in high esteem.

It all makes sense now.

Pretty much the only people angry about this are "fans" that started watching baseball in August.

Anyone who knows the payroll/farm/roster situation can see that Shapiro will be good for this team.

Just who are the THEY though, the person making the baseball decisions left this morning ;)

He's still technically the GM until Monday.

The evil cabal that conspired to ensure you lost the ALCS would be my guess

After reading through this thread, lots of people obviously have an emotional attachment to AA for bringing playoff baseball back to Toronto. Which is fair given the playoffs aren't even over yet. I would have liked to have seen what AA had in store for this offseason.

But the aggressiveness of Shapiro should give any Jays fan confidence in him. He's coming in and taking a hold of the bull by the horns. No pussy footin' around and worrying about hurting anyone's feelings. If you're going to give the guy full power, this is the way you'd like to see him approach it.

Here's hoping AA's next job is on the NL.

Blair mentioned that he's good friends with Friedman

This will be sanitized milk toast...will take awhile for the reality to get out.

It's milquetoast but milk toast is pretty hilarious.

Cleveland is a good example where payroll limitations hurt them. They have a nice core build can never fill it with the extra pieces. With that said, you can't build a win only through the draft (even the teams you will cite had trades/some signings), and he made two pretty awful ones with Swisher and Bourn. I like the idea of building from the farm, but you still need to find the right guys to sign to win, especially with our relatively inflated payroll

Swisher and Bourn were only poor signings in hindsight. At the time, both appeared to be excellent value contracts for very good players. Just so weird how they both immediately fell off a cliff. Can't think of a time where something like that has happened before.
