"We used to know" - Did you know him personally? All I knew about him is that he likes to play baseball, smiles a lot, and enjoys the company of donkeys.
Fans have no idea about what kind of person a player is "in real life".
Iwakuma and Lackey really do seem like the best SP values out there. Like others have said, would like to see Kuma in a Jays uniform, but I have a feeling he'll resign with the M's. They seem to have a good relationship.
I would say that's a pretty bad plan for him. You never know what's going to happen in the next year regarding performance or injuries, his value has never been higher, and he knows right now he can get a 2-3 year deal from someone.
And this should at least give piece of mind to those within the organization who were distraught with AA leaving and the front office potentially being broken up.
This award is akin to a film winning an Oscar. It's never the "best" film that wins, just what's popular / promoted well, so the award doesn't mean much. This too is just a flashy / trite award that probably doesn't deserve much analysis.
Yeah, that's somewhat what went down. He tried to go out in a blaze of glory while salvaging his professional name. No one should feel too sorry for AA.
