No matter where he goes, and what he wins. it will never give him the same satisfaction that he would have gotten from seeing the players he drafted and traded for win.

It seems unfathomable to me, that he walks away from the team, just as the team that he built is so close to delivering a championship.

He'll likely never have that same opportunity again.

I keep saying the same thing, WTF??

The guy started in the mailroom and years later is the GM of a MLB team. A dream job in thousands of peoples minds.

He is offered a 5 yr deal and says no?????

I dont care if I have to go up the ladder for trade approval or not....I build a trusting relationship with my higher chain of command and

between the two of us come up with what is best for our team. No Ego.

Sounds like he didn't like the team effort idea.

It's his personality. Who knows what was said during the contract offer.

I would have done the same. Don't trust me? Don't believe in me? Then I will go elsewhere.

Not saying it's the right move but I would do the same

I was really surprised to see the opt out clause after the first year. Really don't know what Alex is thinking here, unless the thinks that this team has nowhere to go but down.

One thing we know about AA is that he is a risk taker so it is not really that surprising that he would gamble that this year will get him a more desirable offer from elsewhere soon. Who knows, maybe he is the Yankees GM in 2017.

Anthopoulos = Considered #1 candidate to continue as BlueJays GM.

Shapiro = 3rd or 4th option down the list considered for BlueJays president

GM = Main impact on the field

Shapiro = Main impact off the field

World Championships = Won on the field

Now with Jays: Shapiro

No longer with Jays: Anthopoulos

This could not have played out any worse.

First of all full disclosure, I am not a fan of this "Rogers" move, but think us fans should give Shapiro a chance. Let see what the man can do. He is the POTUS now, and like it or not he is gonna lead the Jays to glory or mediocrity.

With that being said, its funny how all the AA bashers are out in full force Rogers flooding the forum?? ;)

Like AA or not, he was the one that made it possible for the Jays to go on an epic run and gave us fans the excitment and hope this city has not experienced in 22 years. The Jays had momentum coming into 2016, but with this move, it seems to the majority of the paying fans Rogers slammed the break real quick. Hopefully Shapiro can restart the bus.

It surprises me a little how quickly many fans that supported and loved the run through the 2nd half and the playoffs are now attacking AA for spending the assets he did to make the run possible. I get why we want to build a "sustainable" winner and its counter productive to move the future and accomplish that.

But you either supported the moves and live with consequences or you didn't. I did.

Unlike the other 2 though, AA has to realize he did not win, He only made it to the dance, He didn't get the girl he wanted.

But he was cool enough to be invited to the party. Getting inside is the first big step...getting her to agree to Greek style is the next step.

Ok, so they were 50-51 and badly under performing. So saying AT BEST they were a 500 (true talent) team is laughable. McCown is a clown.

At some point the excuses of underperforming need to end. And the reason for underperforming needs to be fleshed out and corrected.

Sure I guess.

Silver Lining's instead of GM that brings in Silver Sluggers

Eh, I'm not sure if that's scouting, development or dumb luck. But you can't build your team on older players you hope turn into Bautista or Encarnacion. Those guys are the equivalent of winning a baseball lottery.

Both have explicitly credited a pair of coaches as well. Maybe they remain role players without that guidance.

Who gives a fawk what was said during contract offer. He was getting big bucks to do a DREAM JOB, s*** I remember some people being pissed about a guy

working as a prison guard being able to be on this forum his whole shift. And yet AA gets huge money to do a dream job we all would love to have......No way would I turn that down....no way.

He's a fool.

That's also true. It was the perfect storm, really. It would've been a triumph had they turned into .800 OPS players.

Personnaly I have always viewed prospects as assets to make the team better and those assets can be used in various ways. Either by directly playing for the club or being traded for a player that will help the club.

Too many people read a few articles and fall in love with prospects they have never even seen before. It's pretty laughable at times, especially since the people probably learned about baseball by playing MLB the Show on playstation. I'm sorry to say this, but having a full roster of young studs under 25 at every position and dreaming of that 5 year window when everyone will be in their prime will NEVER happen.

Sure the jays gave up prospects this year, but in a few years if we see the window closing, we can easily re-stock the prospect pool by trading away remaining assets.

That's my bad. I didn't mean silver sluggers literally. I was thinking more along the lines of bringing in high quality players (such as Donaldson, Tulo etc... finding ways to get it done)

So you prefer Playstation over X-box??

That doesn't need to be said.

It's only a mess if they re-sign Jose and EE. Tulo might become a bad contract, but martin? C'mon I didn't hear anyone complaining when he signed Martin.

Agreed. I want Jose & Edwin gone.

Posted
It's not a mess in terms of flexibility, it's a mess in terms of trying to keep them as a 90 win team beyond 2016. If Bautista and EE leave, then it will be damn difficult to replace them. If they re-sign both, then it's getting into Ruben Amaro territory of keeping guys way too long and paying them for past performance. I'm honestly not sure what the "fix" is to keep this team competitive beyond 2016, but let's be real here, AA built a very small window. Not impossible to keep it going, but it will be very hard.

You trade Jose & Edwin for Cole Hamels-lite type returns and move forward.
