Personnaly I have always viewed prospects as assets to make the team better and those assets can be used in various ways. Either by directly playing for the club or being traded for a player that will help the club.
Too many people read a few articles and fall in love with prospects they have never even seen before. It's pretty laughable at times, especially since the people probably learned about baseball by playing MLB the Show on playstation. I'm sorry to say this, but having a full roster of young studs under 25 at every position and dreaming of that 5 year window when everyone will be in their prime will NEVER happen.
Sure the jays gave up prospects this year, but in a few years if we see the window closing, we can easily re-stock the prospect pool by trading away remaining assets.
