Age and Money being a Factor in all things, do pitchers or position players decline faster as they age?

Where do we have better depth in the minors to replace them with!

What is easier to find or aquire and not overpay for?

We depleted a lot of talent for this run, will we not need time and maybe a couple over pays just to build the minors now?

Do we let Batz and EE walk for nothing can we afford to extend them both or one and which?

Where do we see ourselves today tomorrow in a year or two or five!

Was this our moment in the Sun this year and can we repeat it?

Stand pat or moving it forward?

Is AA back?

Is Gibbons ?

How much show me the money do we have?

All I can say, is that after the current season, Blue Jay fans have come to expect more than a 0.500 record and will turn away in record numbers if that is all they offer. On the other hand, another AL East division title will probably result in an attendance of 3,200,000 in 2016 (quite easily considering the crowds they were getting once they became a good team).

I'm shocked nobody has listed some of the bullpen arms available. It wouldn't shock me to see AA try to shorten the games with a lights out bullpen, after watching what Kansas City has been able to accomplish the past two seasons. The bullpen is up in the air for 2016. Will Osuna again be the closer? Will Sanchez be a starter? Lowe is a FA. Loup can't be relied on. Really, Cecil and Hendricks are the only guys who have guaranteed roles next season.

Darren O'Day is a FA and would be a perfect late inning reliever for this club. I know Jose and him had some beefs in the past, which could be a roadblock in signing him. Worth 1.8 WAR and had a 11.80 K/9 last season.

I think Osuna comes back as closer probably Sanchez as well. That leaves you with:

Osuna

Cecil

Hendriks

Sanchez

Loup

FA

FA

I'd like to see Lowe brought back if possible but even if he isn't that pen is pretty damn good. Maybe you go out hunting for a failed starter and hope you strike gold much like Hendriks.

f*** it. I'd go for Price. We need a real f***ing ace.

He's going to cost Scherzer money. I'd need to see what our payroll is going to be before I gave him that. We really need him though.

Most likely scenario probably. Osuna probably would be on an innings limit as a starter and to be honest I think Sanchez is a better bet to stay in the pen because he was pretty bad out of the rotation. Still signing an elite reliever like O'Day would make a huge difference.

I feel like if we give the money Price is asking for, we're going to be so screwed near the end of it. The recent payouts to other aces, and the length of said payout, scares me tbh

What if we give him a deal with an opt out and structured it in a way that would entice him to take it. For example 7/210 with opt out after 3 years and first 3 years being valued at 105. Maybe not exactly the way we would want to break it down, but it could reduce the risk of carrying him on the backend of the deal.

How about Bastardo as a lefty to pair with Cecil? Not sure if Loup will rebound...although he was unlucky too.

We've seen some left-handed starters pitch well into their mid-late 30's. Randy Johnson was still a beast into his late 30's. However, then there is CC Sabathia who basically just imploded at age 32. Regardless, signing Price or any arm for that matter that takes a pitcher into their mid-30's is risky.

Osuna absolutely needs to be a starter. No excuses

Maybe in a couple of years once he has pitched more innings and is older. He started 7 games at A level (Dunedin Blue Jays) but doesn't have much of a history as a starter - http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=13764&position=P

Osuna has already had Tommy John surgery in 2013 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roberto_Osuna

With his lack of innings as a starter and injury in 2013, I doubt that the Blue Jays will take a chance on Osuna re-injuring his arm by asking him to start in 2016.

You want to give Price $35MM for the first 3 years??? No thank you lol

There aren't many pitchers who you are going to be able to rely on for a full season. The ones that are durable are going to be paid a ton of money. I like taking a risk on Anderson especially if Leake and Chen are the alternatives.

Perhaps not, but he's an excellent fit in this division and the cost should be low for his talent level.

I guess but his injury history is worse than many other pitchers. Most starting pitchers can go at least 20 starts in a season. He got paid $10MM this year by the Dodgers, I wouldn't be surprised if he's seeking that much again (maybe more) across a longer term deal. There isn't much guarantee that he's going to be healthy for most of his tenure. Would it still be worth the risk at that point?

Yeah that's a terrible idea. The question shouldn't be "do we have enough money to sign Price?", but "do we want to sign Price?".

Do we want Price at 30 million per year? Or would we rather have 2 lesser starters for 35 million annual combined? I think signing 2 lesser starters benefits the team more and lessens the longterm risk involved.

What does "excellent fit in this division" mean and why should the cost be particularly low? Because he's often hurt?

He costed the Dodgers $10MM this past year, with him not throwing a full season since his debut season. He threw up great numbers this last year, there's no way he's signing for less than that $10MM deal plus he'll want a longer term contract too. I don't know if we should take that big of a risk.

Theres even more risk to that. Because if he gets hurt/isn't good then you are stuck paying him a s*** ton of money to be nothing.

It means that 80% of the parks in this division amplify home runs and he gives up very few flyballs. It's also not a stretch to say that injury history reduces cost for any pitcher.

I didn't mean a cheap one year deal, I meant like 3/39.

If they give Price $25MM per and Bautista $20MM per, here is what 2018 looks like:

25 Price

20 Martin

20 Tulowitzki

20 Bautista

~20 Donaldson

That's $105MM to five players, each of whom will be well over 30.

Damn. Doesn't look good.

I'd like to see Leake & Latos inked.

Not upper echelon guys, not guys that could almost be done like Lackey. Guys who are still fairly young.

And yes the Jays should give Estrada a QO

Hmm I was under the impression that he'd be looking for 5+ because of how young he his, but I guess he'd wanna be a free agent by age 30. Still $13M for a glass player? He sounds intriguing but i just can't look past his injury history, especially when he's going to be getting paid as much as a solid starter with limited injury history. We'll see how FA pans out I guess, AA was interested in Brett Anderson before (wanted to deal Yuni to the A's a few summers ago)

Lackey, the guy we absolutely hated only a couple seasons ago.

And another thing on Lackey, are we gonna overpay big? It's likely his last contract, just turned 37. What's the driving interest for him to wanna sign with the Jays?
