No one seems to understand that a pristine injury history is extremely important for a prospect. While you all go to town on ******** reasons prospects fail (like Travis Snider's "hole in the swing"), very few of you understand injury history.

 

Travis Snider had repeated wrist problems, not a hole in the swing, a bad f***ing wrist that got him in the end. Brett Lawrie had several injuries that ruined his career. Even going to back a ways Eric Hinske had a hamate issue that stunted his growth. Travis D'arunaud...

 

Nick Johnson was the greatest hitting prospect ever until injuries got him.

 

On the other hand guys like Pujols and Cabrerra, and Frank Thomas, who had the 20s we wanted Vlad to have, had pristine injury histories in their 20s.

 

Vlad's injury is significant. it's a bad thing. it's a red flag. Sorry if you can't deal with it.

 

His career isn't over. I don't think his leg will fall off, but like Nick Johnson, he may never have his great years. Johnson skipped his awesome 20s stage, and went right to Frank Thomas 30s stage. Vlad might to. Expect occasional glimpses of brilliance, extended absences, and extended periods where he's a bit injured and not hitting like he could without injuries.

By your same logic, Mike Trout should be a derailed player by now after 3 injuries to his wrist, thumb, and hamstring. 3 separate injuries over the past 3 seasons - that decline is gonna happen any day now.

 

Juan Soto was injured for most of last season in the minors.

 

As were any number of other top prospects who still go on to do well. As many examples you can find of injuries derailing a top prospects career, there's probably an equal number who go on to succeed anyways.

12:37 Saw him briefly last week and he's really shortened up the swing from college. He's fine but not great at SS. One scout compared him to Jordy Mercer, who has had a nice run of being a 45 or 50 FV. That would be a very nice find in the 4th round.

1:01 Thoughts on Adam Kloffenstein? What's his ceiling A mid-rotation guy? He seems pretty filled out for a HS player st 6'5 220, so I'm wondering how much more projection or velocity there still is left.

What are you talking about with Trout?? He played 159 games a year, every year, he's only been on the disabled list once. what the f*** is wrong people's math skills...

 

157/162 = .97x or something. I'm not going to bother with a calculator.

 

Trout does not really miss time. He plays, and the only time he missed was 2017 when he hurt his thumb.. but he came back quick given the injury. They said "Mike Trout out for 8 weeks". No ******** about being re-evaluated. He came back right on time. 1 injury in 9 years. Every single year he's played 98% of his games.

Juan Soto I'll give you. We'll talk about me being an idiot when Vlad actually comes back. What are you guys thinking?? Then when they "re-evaluate" him in July they will announce

 

"We have done the re-evaluation. Vlad will be back in the lineup tomorrow, he will then proceed to continue hitting .400, and crank a bunch of homers to win the eastern league MVP, Sorry for the interruption."

the re-evaluation is scheduled for July 7th. You will all be justified in calling me an idiot the morning of July 8th assuming there will be a news conference live from Dunedin, and Vlad will not be there, because he is on the plane back to New Hampshire to play week of July 9th, and then appear in the futures game the next week.

They tend to be conservative with HS pitchers right out of the draft. I doubt we see him much this season. He also doesn't turn 18 until the end of August.

One scout telling him he thinks he'll throw 100 doesn't mean he actually will, and he's really nowhere near that now. "Mid-rotation" is a pretty standard realistic upside for any HS pitcher that isn't drafted within the Top 5-10 picks. Projecting anything more than that is pretty silly.
