InsideThePark Verified Member Posted August 19, 2023 Posted August 19, 2023 Good to see a 3rd round college bat hitting in his first taste of the upper minors. Not sure if the profile is overly exciting as a corner OF/1B/DH only guy though, unless he can start to get to a bit more in game power. Clearly has some strong bat to ball skills though, he'll be in the MLB depth picture before too long if he keeps this up. Especially since he was one of the underslot guys to get savings for Toman and Barriera. I don't think he was way underslot but ranked somewhere late 100's for a 3rd rounder. He's been the best of the 2022 bunch so far. Management seems pretty good at targetting the right underslot guys, the overslot guys have been a different story though.

Hopefully he continues closing strong and breaks the recent streak of failed IFA signings. They went on a run of targeting catchers and slap-hitting shortstops that have all failed miserably.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 For you guys who are more in tune with our prospects, what's the chances Cam Eden turns into something in the big leagues? From a stats-scouting perspective not much. Seems like he is fast but has no power. And not 'no power' like Howritz or Roden but has no doubles power, isolated slugging is .060 or something, bb/k is bad (30/90), average is bad. k/bb to me is important. If he had an awesome k/bb but bad numbers maybe there is an adjustment that could be made to hit the the ball harder (strike out more hit ball hard), but don't see that here.

He signed for $497,500 and slot was $623,500, so he came in $126K under, basically a third rounder getting fourth round money.

Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 I love unique batting stances. Just like a I love unique jump shots. It's the fun thing about sports when dudes break the mold but still dominate.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted August 20, 2023 Posted August 20, 2023 I thought Connor Cooke must be hurt because he hadn't pitched in a couple weeks, but looks like he's been promoted for the 2nd time this season. Pitched an inning for the Bisons today, 1 K 1BB no runs or hits. Green also pitched again, a clean inning with 1 K, must be about time to bring him up to the Jays now.

He can play all 4 infield positions with the majority of his time coming at SS. Surely this guy could help in some capacity. He might be the guy we want for the 28th man when rosters expand?

Anyone know? Also, anyone know if he's a lefty killer at AAA? It certainly seems like you could give him a shot over f***ing Espinal.

Also, anyone know if he's a lefty killer at AAA? It certainly seems like you could give him a shot over f***ing Espinal. Great questions. I would also like to know if he's had some sort of true talent change by changing his swing or approach or something. As for his splits, they seem to be pretty even in AAA this year but I think we can assume that he'd be better against lefties than righties. He plays a lot of SS and in his short time in the bigs I think his defense has graded out well at 3B and 2B. I'd love to give him a shot and I think he probably played a factor in why the Jays were willing to dump DeJong.

He was interviewed on Jays Talk Plus recently, I believe, and he indicated that he worked on his swing and approach all off-season and never had before. Previously all he did was rely on his defense and had no approach or idea of his swing.

Potential for this to be a tangible/sustainable improvement and not just a lucky season for a guy who's 'old' for AAA
