204Jays Verified Member Posted June 27, 2023 Posted June 27, 2023 Top Blue Jays pitching prospects (in order): 1. Tiedemann 2. Barreira 3. Zulu 4. Francis .... 99. Manoah
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2023 Posted June 28, 2023 Not sure if mentioned yet, but Kloffenstein has to leave the game the other day when he took a 105 mph comebacker off the forearm/hand area. He had thrown 5.1 innings of no hit ball to that point when he was hit. No word on the severity of it.

spats Verified Member Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Bonilla starting to heat up after a slow start. Average up to.296
RustyTrombone Verified Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Orelvis 3-3 with a 2b and BB yesterday. K rate continues to very good since early May. Looking less and less like just a hot streak and more like a hot streak AND significant progression in his offensive skills.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Jays AA pitcher Alek Manoah is making his first ever start for the Fisher Cats right now. He was promoted all the way from the FCL after giving up 11 ER in 2.2 IP in one start for the FCL Blue Jays. He's pretty fringe but the hope is that he can quickly work his way through the minors and become a solid back of the rotation option for the big league team.

So far 4 IP, 2 hits, 1 ER, 2 walks and 8 Ks.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Manoah was pulled after 82 pitches and 5 innings. Final line is 5 IP, 10 Ks, 3 hits, 3 BBs and 1 ER.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Nobody would have predicted that line for this start after the last one Good stuff! I like the bulldog in him, hate the extra 60 pounds

Looking less and less like just a hot streak and more like a hot streak AND significant progression in his offensive skills. Good to see as he has cooled off lately. The good news is he's still walking and not striking out much. 13.4 BB%, 19.3 K% on the season is really good to see.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 So my guess is Manoah moves up to Buffalo for his next start? If he looks good there they are going to put him back in the rotation after the ASB? Not saying that's what I would do but it seems like they don't plan on him being down there for long as long as he looks ok.

Not sure why, we actually have a shot every start since he’s been gone.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Another thing to note is that Manoah was having a tough time keeping base runners in check prior to being sent down. The Sea Dogs were aggressive today and attempted 6 steals on Manoah but two of them were thrown out. They attempted another 3 steals after Manoah left and all three of them were successful. So seems like he did at least somewhat of a good job with that too.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 3 walks in 5 innings. Seems like he's still having obvious command issues. I think I would rather Richards continue to spot start.

Yeah, I like seeing the Ks but Manoah shouldn’t be walking 3 guys in 5 innings at AA. Higher strikeouts can be predicted by just being more free swingers in AA than the majors. Command is still likely an issue.

I rather have him start a few more times in AA, yeah he may have corrected a few things but how engrained are they? You dont practice till you get things right, you practice till you dont get them wrong ever again. Eating some humble pie and making him hungry isnt a bad thing.... oh weight we're talking Manoah here!

I don't think so, that'd be too aggressive, get him right, as others say too many walks still.
max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2023 Posted July 4, 2023 Ryu made his first rehab start today for the Florida Coast League team. His final line looks encouraging enough, I haven't seen any reports yet how his stuff looked yet. 3 IP, 4 H, O BB, 1 ER, 5 SO

max silver Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 It appears at a glance that Alex De Jesus hit for the cycle tonight. His line shows 4 hits, including a double, triple, and home run. Frasso has struggled tremendously in recent outings so with De Jesus heating up in recent days the sting of the White trade is starting to dissipate a little bit.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 I wonder if they let Orelvis continue to marinate in AA or if they bump him up to AAA soon? He's been mashing for 2 months now.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 Orelvis went 1-2 with 3 walks last night. There has been clear signs of very good progression. If you throw out April he’s having an incredible season.
AMS528 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2023 Posted July 5, 2023 There has been clear signs of very good progression. If you throw out April he’s having an incredible season. There's no diminishing a BB% of 14 with a K% of 19 that comes with a lot of power. That's a substantial change to his batting profile. He's also hitting more line drives and popping the ball up less. Everything about that breakdown looks super positive.
Blaine Bullard Dunedin Blue Jays - A OF In Thursday's doubleheader, the 19-year-old went 5-for-8. He was 3-for-5 with two doubles in the first game and 2-for-3 in the second game. Explore Blaine Bullard News >
