Osuna should have been the first out of the pen after Happ allowed two runners in the bottom of the 8th, that was the game.

its not like he has to pitch the 9th as well, anybody can get 3 outs with the bases empty.

Happ staying in to start the 8th was definitely justifiable, however.

Osuna would have been the best option, but Floyd was also a good choice. Floyd has been one of our best arms... He just chose a terrible time to s*** the bed.

Floyd is good, but Osuna is BETTER.

That was the game right there tying runs on base...

Saunders even hit a jack in the top of the 9th Floyd would have had a clean slate + an extra run to play with.

It is justifiable in the old way of thinking when youre talking about pitch counts... and stuff like the manager wanting his starter to "get the win" ... but when you look at pitchers tendencies to get hit harder the more they see hitters in a game(Happ is not immune to this), and it becomes even more defensible to get him the f*** out of there before the s*** hits the fan.

He was going through the order the 4th time, regardless of the pitch count he should have been taken out, thanked for his great day and let the pen work the last 6 outs.

Forgot to put in the "about to be" part.

Even so, the 3rd time through the order Happ is very hittable. .. opposing OPS near .800. It's the perfect time to have taken him out and let the pen work 6 outs with a 2 run lead.

I was fine with him starting the inning, but probably would have leaned toward taking him out after the walk. I honestly can't remember at all if the leadoff single was hit hard or not, so I'll stick with after the walk. But I'm not really disagreeing with you in general, as I wouldn't have had an issue with the 'pen actually coming in to start an inning, instead of once again sticking them with inherited runners, but just that I also wasn't really outraged to see Happ back out there.

the only thing is are pen is generally s***, and anytime you get a chance to get them a day off via CGSO you do it.

and theres also players feelings you have to manage through, Happ def wanted to come out for the 8th and would have been a bit peeved to have been pulled.

It was a grounder just past a diving Tulo I think

He def defends his players, which is nice to see...

Would be nice to hear what fatass West had to say, he kept walking after Gibbons even after he threw him out.

Everyone is there to watch the umpire show I guess

Joe West is such a f***ing piece of s***. You tossed him, he's now leaving the field, so why are you leaning forward trying to goad him into continuing? Must be nice to do whatever the f*** you want at your job and never have to answer for any of it.

Prediction: instead of giving Floydd a clean inning to work with Gibby will leave Happ to put on the lead off runner or runners who will eventually score and lead to a Yankees win

4 run game.

Starter has thrown 108 pitches through 8.

Gibbons: leaves starter in for one f***ing batter (2 pitches), brings on his closer, and nearly loses the game.

Why keep Estrada in the game if you were going to pull him after a batter, and if Osuna was warming up anyway, then why not start the inning with Osuna?

Maybe a better question is, why did Atkins not fire him in the off-season when the casuals were s***ing on him and Shapiro anyway, so they could have done it and not been any worse off PR wise?

Lol no matter what gibby does he gets blamed for it. Shut the f*** up and be happy we won 5 series in a row.

Um, what he did in today's game was both completely unnecessary and completely stupid. There was absolutely no need to bring Estrada back after he had already thrown 8 and was starting to get more solid contact against.

You do realize that Osuna can't pitch every day right? Jays play like 3 weeks straight with no days off. He was trying to give the pen some rest. I have no issues with how he handled the game.

Then why not bring in someone like Floyd at the beginning of the inning if Osuna is gassed?

If the manager makes a decision people disagree with, who would you like them to blame for it?

That was pefect inning for Jason Grilli to come in with a clean inning and a 4 run lead to work to the Red Sox 2,3,4 guys and see what he had.

Bringing out Estrada was nonsense. Well over 100 pitches he had a beautiful 8 inning game that ended with a strike out in the 8th of Betts.

Instead you bring back Estrada when hes done the adrenaline is gone from the no hitter. Promptly gives up a double and go immediately to Osuna in a non save situation when hes pitched 6 of the last 8 days and had problems Friday night. Its just giving Boston a free look at your closer. And you better believe they feel they can get to him now. Credit to Osuna for not completely imploding but still not a good outing.

I'm not saying Grilli comes in and gets a shut down inning. But hes a fresh arm and someone you brought in to pitch late in games. That would be an excellent early test in a 4 run situation. Plus getting his first full inning in the books.

I can't believe this buffoon is still managing this team.

Except that's not true though is it - It was actually 3 times in the last 8 days, Sunday 29th, Tuesday 31st and Friday 3rd. Using him today makes 4 times in 9 days!

Maybe your incorrect calculations led to your 'Don't pitch him tonight - rest him and save him for tomorrow' bizarreness on Friday.

That's what I get when I get my information from Buck Martinez so touche. Still both situations I believe Osuna could have avoided being used. More so today than Friday. Ultimately Friday was fine. Someone not named Osuna or Estrada should have started a clean 9th inning today. Preferably named Grilli or Floyd.

Why does Osuna have to be used in save situations only though? Boston has a helluva lineup. I don't mind using the closer on them when up 4. Grilli is too scary to trust in a situation like that.
