What bunt are you talking about? Goins early on in the AB he took the first strike and fouled the 2nd?

You wanted a safety squeeze with Revere?

Cause in the end we had the guy(s) exactly where we needed to have them with no outs. We just needs fly ball or hard contact with IF in.

Honestly yes. The fastest runner on 3rd....any bunt not a popup ties the game.

True, but a base hit puts us in the lead.

Play for the lead on road, play for the tie at home.

baseball is always easier in your mind than it is in reality....sure we should have just ran the suicide squeeze...easy peasy....tie game.

One thing you can say about gibby....he's got to be a guy you'd enjoy having a beer with...Gibby is a good dude regardless of whether you think he's a good manage

I wasn't calling for a bunt there. no way. And yes I think Gibby is a very good guy and for the most part we could do worse as a manager.

Because Goins has struggled so much and we weren't scoring, with their pen in the 5th I would have had him bunting and not looking on the 1st strike. We needed to tie at least. Normally I hate sac bunts.

It might have worked but often it doesn't....get popped up or fouled off putting a guy in a hole against Davis. (in the end the ump did that for us)

All we needed was a chip shot or a hard hit ground ball with the IF in that gets through or isn't hit at the corners...or a fly ball deep enough to score a fast runner.

During the year yes....in a win or go home elimination game, heck no.

Yeah, can't ignore the go ahead run in that situation with the out count in our favour. Especially with a high contact player at the plate with the infield in.

I honestly didn't mind Gibby's decisions today

Neither did I but there's one call I want to contemplate for a second....his decision to PH Navarro. I want to first make it clear that I am not placing any blame on Navarro whatsoever. In Game 2 in a similar situation (man on base), he uses Pennington as a PH against Davis. But all of a sudden tonight he goes to Navarro. Can I ask why!? What stats, numbers, etc. did you dig up that told you all of a sudden to use Navarro in that situation? I have no problem with him PHing Navarro. I would just like to know why in one game he goes to Pennington and then three games later he uses someone else. Is it totally a gut call or something? It would have to be because otherwise I don't get it.

I think that situation you are referring to in game 2 was with us down 3 runs with runner on 1st, in which case his goal would have been to get on at all costs (that includes working a walk, which would have been useless in tonights situation) rather than drive in that runner on base, not to mention that Navarro in that same situation would have had a huge DP risk. Pennington was also 4-9 lifetime with a HR vs Davis so that might have gave him a bit more assurance in that situation also (although those numbers were from many years ago when Davis wasn't a closer and Pennington was a better player). Tonight we were down only a run with no outs and runners on first and third and you want to put your best contact hitter on to put it in play, which was Navarro.

Bringing in a guy who can't strike anyone out into a game with a runner on 2nd base was idiotic. At least with Lowe there was a tiny possibility of a strike out. With Sanchez, it was going to be put in play, and if we were lucky it would have went to a fielder. It didn't.

Other than that, I was fine with the game as well, including bringing in Fatty to pinch hit for Goins. It's a shame that the two guys who would expect to make contact, Navarro and Revere, couldn't do it.

I agree 100%. I thought bringing in Sanchez in with a runner on second was beyond stupid, use Lowe or Hendricks and hope for a K.

Gibbons is a baffoon no matter what, the talent on the Jays is ahead of that on KC and he still failed. Gibbons equates failure in the post season. The 29 1 run losses proves that this manager is a failure in getting the best out of his players.

How can you be a major league manager and not know that Liam Hendriks and Mark Lowe are your best right handed relievers? Just the mere thought that Gibbons does not know this makes me really question his awareness of the game. Such a basic thing to not know.

Well you know, Sanchy, he.. he's been a real good arm for us. One of those guys that can just come in and throw strikes. Of course I'm going to go to him in that situation, he's been getting big outs for us all year.

He really has.

If some GM is willing to give you something for Sanchez, by all means trade him.

However, assuming that doesn't happen and they refuse to send him back down to NH to be a starter, they should use him as the long reliever out of the pen.

This is how Gibbons should have used him. Instead, he used Hendriks in this role. Anyway...

You were supposed to read that in John Gibbons voice, dammit!

Gibbons is bad at managing the bullpen. Most fan bases think that about thier manager but I really think he's among the worst.

He's probably fine at most other managing duties or not enough to make a difference.

I don't think record in one run games says anything about his managing. Next year I wouldn't be surprised if it's the opposite.

Dickey let's up 5 runs in the first. Jays come back and lose 5-4. That any reflection on the manager? Jays are winning 3-2 after the 5th, Osuna comes in the 9th and let's in two runs to lose. That Gibby's fault?

Baseball is a high variance sport.

Why let Cecil face Forsythe yesterday when Chavez was warm? Then he immediately brings in Chavez after Forsythe homers.

Why have Leon pitch in a high leverage situation when Storen and Osuna didn't pitch yesterday and there is an off day tomorrow? <---- egregious

I like Gibbons' personality but he's a liability.

I think I can address this. I don't think Storen was available today. Part of the problem he had with setting up in Washington was being up warming up and than not entering the game. Storen pitched Monday and warmed up last night. He would have pitched the 8th but Cecil gave up the home run. You noticed that Osuna was up and would have pitched the 9th today.

My guess is Cecil and Storen were not available today. So the trouble was getting the ball to Osuna. This week is clearly an audition/competition between Leon and Biagini. My guess is that this seals giving Biagini a longer look and DfA for Leon when Estrada comes off DL. You had to see what you had in Leon.

Then you see what they have in a different situation not when the games on the line....

Also Storen pitched one inning. Im pretty sure he's fine to get 2 outs.

Why wait until Estrada comes back. Perfect time to demote Leon is now. This would give the team the luxury of an extra position player to help deal with whatever's going on with Saunders and Donaldson. The team we'll have a fully rested bullpen by friday anyways so it's not like Leon will be needed.
