We won the game, and Stroman is starting game 5

...and...

I feel more confident with Stroman than Price right now. If Price hadn't been used up yesterday he would have gotten the start tomorrow.

Is that crazy? Am I the only one who feels this way?

I'm with you. Pretty sure Gibbons did this on purpose. He's not dumb.

At the end of the day we have a legit top of the rotation pitcher starting for us in game 5 and our pen is fresh.

We're set up perfectly.

No. You aren't. Something is up with Price they know but we don't. Last 3 outings he is really struggling. Right now Price isn't Price.

Stro seems to have more pitches to get outs going for him now than Price.

I like us for game 5. Our nerves are settled. The crowd is in there. We play well at RC and Stro Hamels is a good match up for us.

If we win game 5 atleast it sets up our rotation well for the ALCS.

Estrada: Games 1 and 5

Price: Games 2 and 6

Stroman: Games 3 and 7

Have Dickey pitch in game 4 unless were trailing in the series which will change this order. I think we should go with the deeper pen next series leaving Carrera off the roster.

Absolutely not, I'm 100% with you. For whatever reason Price is falling behind hitters and unable to put away the guys he gets ahead. At least for the past 3 starts.

To me, Dickey looked like he was starting to get tired.

Dickey can go deep into games but it's often at the cost of his effectiveness. I think Gibby never had any intention of letting him go deep in this one regardless of the score and I think the stats on Dickey and turns through the lineup would support that decision though I don't actually have the numbers handy (seems like this would be a meaningful split for Fangraphs to provide on all pitchers but I digress).

I am not a Gibby fan, never has. My previous posts shows it.

But the man has cajones for starting Stro over Price. All the US/ESPN know-it-alls were all over him for it. Without Cecil, without Loup no lefty in the BP.

I for one am in awe of your decisions ... and balls

I didn't agree with the Price decision, but starting Stroman was a good call, and his pen use was good otherwise as well.

I need to shower now having praised John Gibbons.

Gibby blows another game cause he doesn't know how to manage. Use the f***ing bullpen you idiot

He was managing to get Price the win rather than managing to win the game. No clue why he left Price up there when he was giving up hard contact to practically everyone after that missed fly ball.

Yeah, but the argument you'll hear in his defense is Price was still at an amazing pitch count for the 7th inning, obviously wasn't tired, he's your ace, 18 straight retired... etc etc etc.

It's the playoffs, you should have your relievers up in the 7th inning regardless of how good your starter has looked. The margin of error is just too small. Why couldn't he have both Sanchez and Loup up to match against lefty righty if he wanted too?

That's not to excuse goins and him s***ing the bed on the pop up, but u have to be ready to stop the bleeding before it turns into a hemorrhage

In a normal game I might be fine leaving Price in during the season, at least for a few batters. Not in the playoffs though and not with our offense struggling to score any runs at all.

I'm with you. I only pointed out the arguments you will here from Gibby after the game and Zaun and... whoever else.

I'd have gone to the pen as soon as the first run came across

John Gibbons is an idiot. He rolls out the same struggling lineup try something different think outside the box.

Mark Shapiro would be a hero in Toronto if he demanded the firing of Gibbons after the season. COme on Mark. Bring your own guys in. I know you want to.

Elaborate?

Bringing in Hendriks, then giving Hendriks the quick hook, then going to Osuna.

1. Neither Hendriks or Osuna should've been brought in to start the ninth.

2. Once Hendriks was in, he should've stayed in. No need to bring in Osuna.

3. Hawkins could have easily finished this game.

I had no problem starting Hendricks with a 7 run lead, and I also understand why he went to Osuna, even though I would've let Hendricks stay in as well. But hey, if Hendricks stays in and gives up that home run then people wouldn't shut up about why Osuna was in, f*** me right?!

You can assume that managing a baseball team is like tossing a coin. If it lands in your favour, you're a genius. I don't think I would have put Osuna on the hump for that game, but then you didn't learn from the last lesson when Price was left in too long. There's your no win situation. I was thinking that Osuna may get wacked in that game because KC was hitting everything including the kitchen sink. I can't imagine the Jays winning this series if KC continues this lucky hitting streak. I hope it ends tomorrow. At this magic pace KC will win hands down and the World Series.

We do have a good guy out there tomorrow to end it I think. The knuckleball, when it is on and moving well, is not something that they will be able to square up on with any sort of consistency. As long as Dickey minimizes his walks I have a feeling he'll be able to keep those bats relatively quiet tm.

Hope you're right, what I saw tonight is a scary hitting machine. Hoping that the knuckle ball effect has merit as they pitching staff needs to slow these guys down. The one thing that bothers me about the jays is the lack of baseball fundamentals when it comes to advancing runners. I hope they iron this out as well, because you just can't keep banging the baseball against the Royals.

Agree about the walks. With a team like Royals who seemingly are the masters of small ball, BBs are going to be his and the likely the team's undoing...
