PETERSBURG, Fla. – Devon Travis is expected to rejoin the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday after recovering from a shoulder injury that’s kept him out of the lineup for more than a month. The second baseman has been rehabbing at triple-A Buffalo and the team has been waiting for him to regain his timing at the plate before activating him. After a slow start, Travis now has four hits and four walks in six games, setting the stage for his return. “I think so, yeah,” manager John Gibbons said Wednesday. “I would guess that’s probably going to happen. That’s kind of the plan, anyway.” Travis, 24, started the season strong and in 36 games has batted .271/.336/.504 with seven homers and 26 RBIs. But at the beginning of May in Cleveland, he took a Brandon Moss smash off the collarbone and ended up hurting his shoulder compensating for it at the plate. Once back, the Blue Jays plan to slot him into the lower part of the batting order after using him in the leadoff spot briefly during Jose Reyes’ absence earlier in the season. “He was struggling there at the end because of his shoulder before we finally sat him down, but for the longest time he was leading our team in RBIs,” said Gibbons. “He seemed to always be getting that big, big hit. He was in the bottom of the lineup and turning it over for those guys up top, was playing good defence – I mean, he was doing everything. We know we have a good player, hopefully he’s ready to go when we get him back.” Travis’ return will bump Ryan Goins out of regular duty, but Gibbons intends to use the slick infielder to spell Travis, Reyes and even third baseman Josh Donaldson plus occasional duty in the outfield. “He has done a tremendous job, I think that role right there is really a great role for him because he’s such a good defender,” said Gibbons. “You can put him anywhere and he’s good. But he’s played so well we’ve got to make sure that we keep him active.”

Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 i really don't want to see ryan goins in LF
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 But then again i also don't want to see bello, valencia, or ezeq there either.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 He was impressive in a small sample size giving us good ABs and hitting the ball to all fields with surprising power. His D looked better than he was billed. Looking forward to having him back. Goins did a decent job filling in and had a great series against the BoSox, but he is a glove.

Laika Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 The Blue Jays will have basically no holes on offense now. K f***ing P has 1.5 fWAR in 73 games - 4th best on the team. So nice of him to fill the hole left by Pompey. With an 89 wRC+ and extremely positive baserunning, he really hasn't been a hole in the lineup. The only issues are on the defensive side now: LF - awful SS - not good backup C - garbage (hard to complain about this though). Would be nice to keep everyone healthy and then replace Carrera with a spry Saunders.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 The couple of issues left are manageable Focus needs to be on acquiring pitching
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Now for Saunders to get fully healthy and Stroman
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Gibbons infatuation with Navarro and Goins is going to make for some painful lineups even if/when everyone is healthy.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Now for Saunders to get fully healthy and Stroman 2016 bro

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Yeah the Navarro love fest is super annoying. Another guaranteed start for Navarro with Buehrle on the mound

There's a very real chance a Colabello/Carrera mix is what's best for the team. I hope I am wrong. Navarro is a good backup C given the circumstances. Reyes isn't good but he probably gets too much s*** for his bad plays. He has a good arm and is one of the best hitting shortstops. Let's not worry about offense/defense and focus on getting Samardzija or Cueto.

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Now for Saunders to get fully healthy and Stroman I expect nothing from Stro in 2015 and don't want to see him rushed. Leg injuries can really throw a pitcher off in recovery. I remember when it happened to McGowan on one of his many rehabs. I always felt Saunders was over rated for a few reasons. How and when he comes back from the latest set back is a complete wild card. Guy has bad luck.
Laika Community Moderator Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Sorry to break it to you but Saunders could be total crap coming back from injury. Thanks, tips.

He was a beast 2014.

I am on the fence with Cueto. He's a playoff choker bro: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s1tnjrzIK4. Baltimore would eat him ALIVE! Plus can you imagine Martin? First time they meet, they hand shake, lean in for a hug and Martin will whisper "Hey remember when I hit that HR off you in PIT? f*** you, suck my cock". Just sayin! E: Holy s***, the entire game is on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEPSHMwbCL8 . nice.

Lots of front liner starters have had rough big outings over the years. It happens. I still remember the Expos getting to Carlton in the playoffs well. I think his arm would be a huge + but I hear you on the concern. You never know though until they play it on the field. Sometimes these major deals flop. Edited June 26, 2015 by BigCecil
LTR Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 But then again i also don't want to see bello, valencia, or ezeq there either. Carrera has grown on me a lot and with good reason. Plays an average or better OF (with speed), SB threat, and the bat has come around. I never want to see Colabello in the OF (or Valencia) but I have no problem with Carrera.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 What happens if Pillar or Bautista get hurt? Then what? They should be acquiring a LF/CF Ben Revere/Eaton type. They have Carrera to fill in, who's passable. Ideally you can get someone like Revere but they only have so many assets to trade, Revere might cost something that should be going towards a trade for a starter.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Another guaranteed start for Navarro with Buehrle on the mound Estrada almost threw 2 no hitters with Navarro catching. So Navarro should now catch Buehrle and Estrada. Call up Thole to catch Dickey. Martin catches two days a week. /Gibbons

This is true, but still that goes for any and every player you will ever acquire via trade.
