pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I imagine it's speculation based on the amount of salary AA is asking teams to retain on their guys. It's a range bc they d on't have the exact # or AA hasn't been given one (which fits AA's the $ is there for the right player mantra) It was based on the difference between payroll at the start of 2014 vs 2015 (was higher last year). But that really doesn't mean much. Beeston said payroll would definitely go up (which it hasn't). But then again the USD has skyrocketed and who knows if they have hedged their currency exposure. Bottom line is that no one in the media knows how much money is to be spent, but the actions of the Jays the past couple of years certainly point to restrictions being in place.

I don't think they have a exact dolalr amount but the Jays have been in on enough players that I'm sure the $5-8M is a reasonable guess. There may be a little more or a little less but it's not like they're sitting on +$15M
baubau Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I would happily take Paxton for Edwin, but I doubt the Mariners would do that. What makes you think the Mariners would say no to that? I think Jack Z would jump all over that.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Don't the Jays receive money from the commissioner's discretionary fund to help out with F/X expenses? I don't know if they get a lot but they get something at least, I'd think. Like, $15M?
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 What makes you think the Mariners would say no to that? I think Jack Z would jump all over that. Lol Jack Z would probably give up both Paxton and Walker for Edwin.
baubau Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Lol Jack Z would probably give up both Paxton and Walker for Edwin. Exactly. If it was the Dodgers that we were talking about they'd probably hang up the phone on Walker/Paxton for Eddy. But with Jack Z we could probably even try to sneak in Reyes for Miller lol.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I would happily take Paxton for Edwin, but I doubt the Mariners would do that. The Mets would need a lot of salary relief to take Reyes. Neither trade would really improve the Blue Jays for 2015 but they'd make a lot of sense. Ya, the NYM are right at their payroll limit. Would definitely have to eat some money but I'd be curious to see if the Jays paid all of Reyes 2015 salary if the Mets would go for it. I also agree they're more longterm moves. Keeps the status qup and the Jays in the WC hunt while freeing up a bunch of payroll for the off-season.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Lol Jack Z would probably give up both Paxton and Walker for Edwin. AA should pull the trigger immediately then. That would solve the rotation and BP issues (keep Sanchez and Doubront in the BP) in one move.

I'd be all over that if possible. For this year, it would allow Smoak to play 1B full time and Colla to DH fulltime. That'd be okay. And Goins could play SS full time. It would help our defence a ton, and bring our pitchers' ERA down a bit. Plus build for the future.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 If we do trade Edwin, I would like to see us go after Cespedes in FA. He'd be a nice guy to get to replace Edwin. You just rotate the corner OF (Cespedes, Saunders, Bautista) into the DH spot with Bautista getting the lion's share of DH time (Saunders in left and Cespedes in right), being the worst defender and oldest guy. Smoak can be full time 1B and play DH once in a while Jose goes to 1B for those occasions.

LTR Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 So basically every pitcher AA wanted is out and now he's now scraping the barrel
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 What does this post mean? Only two pitchers have been traded and AA is still in on the others. Not to mention it would be two starters that were close to the bottom of his list since they are pure rentals
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Ya but we didn't make the first move so now all the good pitcherz are gone!

Even then, I doubt this team will as they'll likely have Pompey fill in the spot. They have 4 OF next year: Pompey, Saunders, Pillar, Bautista and will likely just pickup Carrera or a Carrera like player for depth.

Other teams still in play. Deal expected soon. Gonna laugh when we make 0 trades and Bautista blows a lid.

As for the Mets, they have to make the playoffs this year, or else Collins and Alderson are gone. And with the Nats badly under-performing (next to Boston and Seattle, one of the most disappointing teams this year), Mets have an opportunity to get Thor and co. to the postseason. FYI, Matt Williams likely gets canned if the Nats miss the playoffs. With the Giants surging, it's either win the division or else.

BTS Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 A 0.500 team should not be looking to acquire Jeff Samardzija. He's going to cost one of Norris/Hoffman/Pompey/Alford.
