pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Wait why? You do realize Buehrle is thinking about retiring right? We should get something for him. I would love to offer him a QO and pick up a first round pick but you can't take that risk. Because we are trying to make the playoffs and need him, simple as that. And we force his hand by offering him a QO - at his age he's either gonna accept our offer or be forced to accept a much worse deal elsewhere as teams aren't going to give up a pick for 1 year (or 2 at most) of MB at 15 a year.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Shi Davidi has no idea what's going on with this team either! When has Shi Davidi ever accurately reported a trade? Can you please give me a reference? Davidi is just as clueless about the Jays as any other "reporter". He was literally guessing how much payroll space the team had in the offseason. He might get some nice insider information after moves are made, but when the team hasn't said or done anything, he's sitting on the sidelines like the rest of us.
NiagaraJaysFan Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I think Alex is doing the right thing here. See how we do on this road trip (currently pretty well), see where we stand, let the market get sorted, and try to make a deal that doesn't cripple us in the future. We aren't close enough IMHO to risk a lot with a rental.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 For the last time. This team is not making the playoffs. We need a minimum of 2 front of the rotation starters and bullpen help to make anything happen. You can say that, but it doesn't make it true (and it's not). This team has a much better chance of making the playoffs than you think.
5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 For the last time. This team is not making the playoffs. We need a minimum of 2 front of the rotation starters and bullpen help to make anything happen. They could squeak into the second wildcard with a legit ace.
5minutesforframing Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Sure maybe but what if that pitcher can't go in the wild card game. Could you imagine starting Hutchison on the road in a one game playoff lol. Yuck brother
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 And what evidence do you have for this? Sure maybe but what if that pitcher can't go in the wild card game. Could you imagine starting Hutchison on the road in a one game playoff lol. We're 2.5 games behind the Twins with no teams in front to leapfrog. The AL seems to be really top heavy this year. 4 games behind the Yankees and we have 13 games against them left. Head to head can get us right on their asses if we take advantage.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 And what evidence do you have for this? Well, you said "This team is not making the playoffs" which means you think there's a 0% chance of them making it. That in itself is ridiculous, but I can certainly find "evidence" that this team has a much better than 0% chance of making the playoffs. BP has us at a 46% chance, FG at 38.3% and that's assuming no deadline moves are made. So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna trust their analysis and the actual performance of this team so far as opposed to some random disillusioned forum member who posts some sort of negative comment in 95% of their contributions.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Who would trade Stroman for Carrasco? I would only trade Stro for an elite position player. Tulo, Puig, etc
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I would only trade Stro for an elite position player. Tulo, Puig, etc hold it....... stro for tulo? what?
thatoneguy Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I would only trade Stro for an elite position player. Tulo, Puig, etc I wouldn't. We're going to need his arm when he comes back regardless of what the situation is. Stroman should be one guy that is basically off limits.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I never said they had a 0% chance its just extremely unlikeky. The Yankees are about to load up. I would expect the Twins to improve as well. I'm not trying to be negative just realistic... The best move for us going forward is to sell. This isn't the year. When is it going to be the year though. You have to understand the frustrations for fans. I hate the Yankees are running away with the division excuse. we have 13 games left against the yankess.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 hold it....... stro for tulo? what? It'd not going to happen but I would, then flip Reyes!

ColdPint Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Speaking of Stro.....is there still a small chance of him coming back in September? I can see the PR spin now..."Stroman coming back is the equivalent of making a trade for a front of the rotation starter so....."

Last I saw was he MIGHT be back in September, but there wouldn't be enough time to stretch him out as a starter. He'd be returning out of the pen if he does.

It doesn't matter that AA is on the last year of his contract with a team that has a 40% chance of making the playoffs... This is clearly the time to sell.

I dont think AA is in nearly the kind of pressure you think he is in. I could be wrong, but I think he has atleast a bit of verbal job security.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 f*** off I hate the stadiums out west.

RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I would not take out my best 1st baseman, on the road, in an extra innings game.

Hipfan Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I'm starting to think that they shouldn't do anything at the deadline. As mad as I was last year when they did nothing, as they were in the wild card lead and clearly had holes in their lineup, I think there is too much ground to make up in too short a time, and the cost will not be worth the risk. The time to make a deal was a month ago, imho, but I think they should just sit back and end up around .500, and reload on pitching in the offseason. I don't like writing that very much, as the Jays really need to make a push for the playoffs, but there is no point wasting our farm system for a shot at the wild card, and hopefully we will get a real president who wont' handcuff the organization with stupid limits on free agent contracts. There's lots of good pitching available in free agency, and all it will cost is money, so hopefully they can add a couple of starters. With the addition of one or two players, plus Stroman coming back healthy, 2016 could be a very good year.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Jays should be trading for next year.... trade MB, RA, Navarro, Edwin and Reyes to get pieces for next year.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Do people realistically think that Buehrle has any trade value? He's an old pitcher who derives most of his value from being durable and pitching a ton of innings, that becomes nearly useless when you acquire him to pitch less than half of a season for your team. He's not particularly elite and not cheap either, when you have guys like Shark, Cueto (not anymore), Ross, Cashner, no one is looking at Buehrle as their potential go-to guy in the playoffs or to give you those additional wins that will get you there. He's more valuable to us as a reliable innings eater than whatever D-level prospect or cash considerations we would be able to get for him.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
