xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 I hope all the noise surrounding us going after Mike Fiers is just a smokescreen for something bigger. Mike Fiers isn't going to get it done for us, he's not what the Jays need. It's a broken record but we need a true #1, failing that a #2. If AA is spending time, once again, looking at #3-5 type guys then we might as well pack it in and look forward to the offseason when the Jays should have money to spend. Fiers = cheap , the Blue jays are apparently on a tight budget. It's not about obtaining quality for this team, it's about obtaining good value salary wise right now.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Re read that and figure it out Might be expecting too much

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The Jays always say everyone insists on Stroman.

It's not about obtaining quality for this team, it's about obtaining good value salary wise right now. The Jays have a lot of money coming off the books at the end of this year and I can't believe (hate to think) we're shying away from trying to make deals for difference makers for financial reasons, especially after the off season comments last year about money being available at the deadline. If we're once again financially constrained from making deals that could put us in the playoff picture then F this team, F ownership and F the head office.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 That request for Stroman was probably last year. A few others have confirmed that a deal is done (in principal) between the Royals and Reds. John Lamb is in the deal (no real big deal anymore)
ColdPint Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Fiers is pretty good though...something I haven't really seen anyone mention. Fiers is an extreme fly ball pitcher with an average fastball of about 89mph. While he might get good results from his repertoire, and could be considered "pretty good", he's not the ace we need. Unless the Jays have given up acquiring an ace for cost reasons and will look at doing something in the off season instead. 'Cause, you know.....there's always next year.
awsomest Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The they asked from stroman excuse is such garbage because what is actually given up doesn't even have 50% of the value of stroman, Either AA is the worst negotiator of all time or davadi is already getting on his knees for rogers
flafson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Fiers is pretty good though...something I haven't really seen anyone mention. He's essentially a Marco Estrada, as much of a pleasant surprise he has been for us this year, i wouldn't hold my breath on him in a playoff game.

We don't need an ace, we need a mid rotation starter and a a front end starter. It's not like there are 30 aces in baseball, there are more now than in 2006-2007 but there's still not one per team in the league. Fiers fills a need now and he fills a need going forward. Getting someone like Fiers and someone like Ross or Cashner does a huge amount to help the team now.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The they asked from stroman excuse is such garbage because what is actually given up doesn't even have 50% of the value of stroman, Either AA is the worst negotiator of all time or davadi is already getting on his knees for rogers Same. They always say Stroman was asked for, but when the deal happens it's never anything near Stroman's value. It's seems like management's excuse to mollify the fanbase: oh, we'll just tell them everyone asked for Stroman, and then they'll shut up
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 If i am Jocketty i prefer D.Norris to all the guys in the supposed deal. Lamb is s*** Manaea is ok but he seems to be hurt all the time, so he's probably a reliever down the road. Finnegan looks like a loogy to me with poor mechanics. I like the deal for KC.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 The Fiers deal won't get done because the Brewers will ask for Stroman. / Shi Davidi
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 At the same time if im the jays i don't give up D.Norris for Cueto
flafson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 He's a lot better then Estrada Because he's on league minimum? Estrada's FIP- is 102, Fiers's FIP- is 101. They are essentially the same thing. Both are extreme fly ball pitchers and Estrada been a little bit luckier in that department so far this year.
awsomest Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 At the same time if im the jays i don't give up D.Norris for Cueto yea no... in a heartbeat
flafson Verified Member Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 We should make a poll about, "will we get a starter who is 90 FIP- or better?"

I have nothing against a reasonable trade for Fiers that does not include any A prospects, if it's a secondary move to bring in a front end rotation guy. If Fiers is the primary target then we're f'd for this year. There's 1/3 of the season left, we need difference makers at this point.
