baloojayz Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Not sure how to feel about this. Maybe taking Kimbrel's contract is a requirement to get Ross? Besides, Kimbrel, as good a reliever he is, does make a ton of coin. I know Ross is hella valuable, but I can't imagine Kimbrel's value being the greatest with that contract, even with his pedigree. Ross' walk rate is so high, gonna be RAD all over again.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 This is one trade deadline where I will be happy with no moves Please no more bailing out other teams of big contracts
nonamejays Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Honestly, I would rather see the Jays do nothing. I wouldn't even care if they sold Buerhle and RAD for prospects and call up several prospects up to start for the last 2 months. They would not be well advised to pay the price for pitching now and they can just open pocket book for a pair of pitchers in the offseason to replace the two starters that are departing.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 This is one trade deadline where I will be happy with no moves Please no more bailing out other teams of big contracts If we don't do it, someone like the Yankees or Dodgers will. And we need to acquire a starter ASAP. I mean, we're the only team even close to the Twins and Astros in the standings.
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I think we have a chance this year but I don't think any moves we make would necessarily put us over the top so I'd love to see a re-tooling for next year. Sadly it will be hard enough just to replace MB. I think we should get Shields as his price in prospects should not be much, then really push for one more controllable pitcher. Trade Dickey for anything we could get or salary relief and trade EE. I would say trade Reyes for anything but I don't think that will happen.
Ambassador Ch0n Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I don't understand why you guys don't all have raysjays on your ignore lists. He NEVER contributes ANYHTING to ANY conversation. All he does is talk about how bad the other 29 teams are. I know, and its absolutelyf***inghilarious. The idiot makes me chuckle a couple times a day with his cookie-cutter "(team other than Jays) are doomed because reasons!" posts.

They're multiple moves away and getting it all done without making a bad deal is a tall order at the trade deadline. They can flip Buehrle for a good long-term piece. Eddy has more value now than in the offseason. Anyone else on short term deals see what you can get
TilsonBritoFan Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 The reality is, if we gave Reyes away to the first team to take his contract, and traded EE for prospects, we likely would still have as good a shot at making it this year as we do now. I'd try and do that.
Swervin81 Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Ross' walk rate is so high, gonna be RAD all over again. That's the 1 big issue I have with Ross. Walks are a bit up this year, not really his greatest strength in the first place. His ability to get K's and soft contact is real good and he is elite at generating grounders. If he could knock down those walks a tad, he'd be a legit ace IMO.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I wonder if the Padres would do Reyes for Shields. Might need to add a prospect on our end but it is AJ Preller. Why would he want Reyes when he's trying to dump contracts?
fireballW Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Why would he want Reyes when he's trying to dump contracts? Not that I think they'd do it, but a one year contract vs a 3 year contract can mean a big difference, especially since it is doubtful the Padres make the playoffs next year either. Difference is Shields is a lot closer to worth his contract than Reyes.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Why would he want Reyes when he's trying to dump contracts? Because he's fun to be around, team chemistry and all.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Why would he want Reyes when he's trying to dump contracts? After all the s*** he did in the off-season, I think he'd fall for Reyes. If not now, then in the off-season. Big name, stolen bases, previous all star, and all that. Preller is our only hope to get out of Reyes' deal. He's one of the few (only?) GM's left willing to pay for name value and ignore defensive metrics. Although I get the feeling we might be too late. Should have shopped Reyes to the Padres in December.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Put Pompey in left, Norris or Boyd in the rotation, and whatever happens from there happens. Don't trade for any reinforcements if it costs any meaningful prospect. Alex and Gibbons are s***. Don't let them leave any sort of stench in the organization once they are gone. You mean the stench of Donaldson, Martin, Stroman, Osuna, and a stacked farm system? I mean, we're the only team even close to the Twins and Astros in the standings. Well... that would be true, if it wasn't complete and utter ******** instead.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 You mean the stench of Donaldson, Martin, Stroman, Osuna, and a stacked farm system? . Gord Ash left Halladay, Carpenter, Escobar, Delgado, Wells, Rios, Hudson, Werth, etc, Bad GM's make good moves. Unfortunately, if the bad is strong enough, it can outweigh the good. That's where AA stands. His last off-season was very good (Donaldson, Martin, Travis, Saunders) but it was outweighed by bad roster construction and keeping a manager that can't tell the difference between his best players and his worst.

I don't think Gibby been the reason for our problems, i agree with most of his moves. It did strike me as odd yesterday that he played Goins cause he had good numbers against Walker only to ask him to bunt, if you wanted him to bunt just leave him on the bench and let Travis hit. Other than that i been mostly happy with him.
baubau Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I wouldn't say they have a stacked farm Yep, I'd agree. Jays are probably around top 10 in the league in terms of prospects. I'd rank top 5 systems as "stacked" and they currently would be Boston, Dodgers, Twins, Cubs and Pirates. But schematics as I agree with TL lol.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Is there 1 rumor on mlbtr that doesn't mention how the Jays are tight budgeted or can't take on the full salary for X player? Where are they getting these facts from on why certain trades are having issues with certain players because the Jays have financial constraints?

If I were in the Jays FO and I knew that Beeston/Rogers are getting deals hamstrung cause of money, I would want to leak these details to the press so that the fans and players understand why nothing is happening.
flafson Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Would anyone do Reyes for Kimbrel straight up?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Would anyone do Reyes for Kimbrel straight up? Of course we would. But why would the Pads do that?
flafson Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Of course we would. But why would the Pads do that? Pen arms are come and go kind of thing, Reyes is an every day player and they don't really have a shortstop. So it's kinda even.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Nobody knows how much the Blue Jays have to spend. Every so often, a reporter will mention how some trade candidate's salary could be hard to fit into the Blue Jays budget, which sends Blue Jays twitter ablaze. But that's all just speculation and AA is careful to keep specific budget details a secret. There are no public 'facts' on the matter. MLBTR was saying today that the Jays are interested in Kimbrel but only have $5-8M of payroll space and can't add Kimbrel + a SP within their budget. SP is AA's priority.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Kimbrel and Shields is Marlins happening all.over again
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 There is no actual reputable source for the $5-8MM number. Also, is it $5MM or $8MM? The 'limit' can't be both. I imagine it's speculation based on the amount of salary AA is asking teams to retain on their guys. It's a range bc they d on't have the exact # or AA hasn't been given one (which fits AA's the $ is there for the right player mantra)
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 Would either of these deals make sense? Enough to get to the playoffs? Reyes to NYM for Tejada and Colon Edwin to SEA for Taijuan Walker/James Paxton + Ackley
