Nox Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I really hate threads like this. Both Hoffman and Osuna are really nice arms to have in the system. I like them both quite a bit. But when people start spewing utter garbage about them directly comping maybe the best RHP prospect in the game it just makes the board look awful.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 This discussion is fools gold. There's only one answer right now, and it's Thor?!
StroShow Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Now + a season's worth of uncertainty = then Syndergaard = then Hoffman != Syndergaard I'm not picking him over Syndergaard. I'm saying that the best case scenario for Hoffman isn't being an upper echelon prospect in a couple of years time. The best case scenario would be him being that this season, because it is something that is attainable.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 This board is honestly f***ing retarded. Syndergaard over both easily. 3.42 true talent MLB FIP as a starter. If you just read that and the thought of posting his line tonight entered your mind, please go drown yourself in the nearest toilet. How about a much more fun question? Stroman or syndergaard. Who do you want?
Governator Community Moderator Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Shouldn't the comparison be Sanchez or Syndergaard considering the Mets wanted either one of them and the Jays 'picked' Syndergaard to offer the Mets?

Wait im suppose to believe Synder is better because some idiots have him ranked the best RHP prospect.. thats utter garbage. Get over prospect rankings they usually mean s***
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Shouldn't the comparison be Sanchez or Syndergaard considering the Mets wanted either one of them and the Jays 'picked' Syndergaard to offer the Mets? It's my understanding that the Jays asked "what do you want for Dickey?" and the Mets basically named their price which was Synder, D'Arnaud and Becerra. I'm not aware that Sanchez ever entered the discussion. There's no mention of any Sanchez discussion in Great Expectations.

The Mets focused in the best pitcher in the Jays farm. Aaron Sanchez wasn't in the table of discussion. Great deal for the Mets.

Ok I just remember reading a story a while back that it was between the two of them. I could be wrong, I don't remember what I ate for breakfast yesterday.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 So what's your counter argument? Why ISN'T he the best rhp prospect? From what I have seen he is comparable to Sanchez, but with more command of the fastball Synder throws a flat fastball that I think has carried him in the minors. As long as he locates he will succeed in the mlb, but I havent seen that command yet.
Nafro Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Wuilmer Becerra's 2015 Stats (20 years old at Lo A) 0.274/0.330/0.491 7 2B,2 3B,4 HR,15 RBI,5 SB,3 CS. I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
Nafro Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 I don't think you can predict a young pitcher in 5 years, because of the constant attrition that occurs with pitchers.
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 From what I have seen he is comparable to Sanchez, but with more command of the fastball So not comparable at all?

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Can we all agree that if (*when) Hoffman proves all of you utterly despicable non-believers wrong, that none of you will be allowed to enjoy the bountiful gift that is his existence? You must remain forever soft. I mean, he has the word "Man" in his name. You know who else has that? Marcusstro Man. That should tell you enough. #HoffmanisLove #HoffmanisLife #JustCallHimATop10ProspectRightNow #WhyWait #TheMinorsAreJustAFormality #RoTY2016 #RoTY2017Also
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 It's almost like the people who don't agree with advanced stats will continue to take the polar opposite stance until they're finally right, just to say I told you so. Today there is literally no argument to be made for Hoffman>Syndergaard.

Today there is literally no argument to be made for Hoffman>Syndergaard. It's not even about stats. It's about common sense. On one hand you have a MLB-ready arm who tore through the minors, has the stuff to back up the results, and has nothing in the way of red flags. On the other you have a guy who, while very talented in his own right, is coming off a major injury and has never thrown a pro pitch. The only reason for picking Hoffman is that you like the Blue Jays and can't be objective.

There are a lot of people who are just as valid fans of baseball and the jays, but have no idea what metrics are. DON'T argue stats with people who don't know anything about them. Just let them have their heart and passion for baseball in their way. arguing doesn't help anyone. ps. you know a thread like this is going to be a s*** storm so maybe dont come back after you make your case and state the facts. You KNOW it's only going to piss you off. Bickering doesn't help anyone and only empowers the people who are not even fans, that are just here to troll and we all know there are lots of those.

nmrch Verified Member Posted May 13, 2015 Posted May 13, 2015 Osuna is 2 1/2 years younger than Syndergaard and is getting big league hitters out, and its not in a smoke and mirrors kind of way, he's got good ratios and he's missing bats. No one's questioning Syndergaard's dominance of the minor leagues but what makes you guys think Osuna wouldn't be doing the same if he went through the traditional minor league route. Unless you think there's no chance Osuna will be what Syndergaard is in 2 1/2 years its not a ridiculous comparison and people arguing otherwise are not nearly as analytical as they think they are.
