ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I've never gotten on the Law bandwagon, I find him too stubborn in his opinions. Good to know though, he has to be one of the few national sources that doesn't have him top 5. I agree, he's very stubborn. If he doesn't like a prospect, he will literally hate him forever. If that prospect succeeds it's always because of some change or improvement that "no one" could have anticipated. I usually take anything Law says with a grain of salt. I just brought him up as 1 guy that doesn't think Beede is a top 10 pick.

Ya, he finds supposed fatal flaws with prospects really early and then doesn't change his mind even when presented with evidence supporting the contrary. As an entertainer though his snarkiness is legendary.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 The Jays right now would pick 12th overall, but they aren't very many games ahead of a lot of the teams picking in the back half of the top 10: 4 Chicago Cubs 53 70 .431 National League 11 - 19 473 522 -49 5 Milwaukee Brewers 54 70 .435 National League 16 - 14 485 540 -55 6 Philadelphia Phillies 54 69 .439 National League 8 - 22 459 563 -104 7 Minnesota Twins 54 68 .443 American League 15 - 15 487 555 -68 8 San Francisco Giants 55 68 .447 National League 12 - 18 474 540 -66 9 Los Angeles Angels 55 68 .447 American League 11 - 19 561 597 -36 10 San Diego Padres 56 68 .452 National League 15 - 15 484 561 -77 11 New York Mets 56 66 .459 National League 15 - 15 492 522 -30 12 Toronto Blue Jays 57 67 .460 American League 12 - 18 562 599 -37 13 Seattle Mariners 57 66 .463 American League 16 - 14 493 579 -86 14 Colorado Rockies 58 67 .464 National League 13 - 17 544 560 -16

Then we'll here AA tell us how the team really started coming together at the end of the season, and he really likes this team going forward. JPA will hit .225 in the last month and AA will say he'll be our catcher next year, and he really started to get better as the sesaon wore on.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Also, Brandon Morrow and Ricky Romero will pitch 3-4 games each in September and look OK, and thus will be counted on as starters for next year. Naturally, both will then go MIA as of mid April 2014 leaving the starting rotation in shambles yet again.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 4 Chicago Cubs 54 71 .432; 2.5 GB of TOR 5 Milwaukee Brewers 55 71 .437; 2 GB of TOR 6 Los Angeles Angels 55 70 .440; 1.5 GB of TOR 7 Philadelphia Phillies 55 70 .440; 1.5 GB of TOR 8 Minnesota Twins 55 69 .444; 1 GB of TOR 9 San Diego Padres 56 70 .444; 1 GB of TOR 10 San Francisco Giants 56 69 .448; 0.5 GB of TOR 11 Toronto Blue Jays 57 69 .452; 1.5 GB of SEA, COL; 2 GB of NYM 12 Seattle Mariners 58 67 .464 13 Colorado Rockies 59 68 .465 14 New York Mets 58 66 .468 These standings are RIPE for the tanking. Teams 12-14 opened up space on Toronto yesterday, and with a disastrously fantastic September, Toronto could "fall" well into the top 10!!! Tank Nation Notes: - Bautista to the DL is a huge plus for tank nation! - Izturis twisting his ankle is a blow to tank nation, as he has been by far our most effectively terrible player Hopefully he avoids the DL! - Gose-Davis-Pillar OF is both hilarious and awesome! - Jose Reyes has been complaining a bit about ankle/leg pain. Cool! - Brett Cecil, arguably the Jays' best RP this season, will see his innings limited the rest of the way. Nice! - Apparently, Josh Johnson has been shut down for the rest of the year. Dang. Tank nation needs him on the bump!

admin Site Manager Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Maybe this will make you feel better, Syndergaard's last three starts 15IP, 7H 2BB 18SO. Have a nice day. Where will he be next year? Top 10 prospect I think is a lock.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 This thread makes me sick. You should all be ashamed of yourself. It's pretty freaking embarrassing that the Mets are ahead of us in the standings. Considering we sent our 2 top prospects for there ace. Somebody needs to get fired right now. Where the Mets are in the standings is irrelevant.

Well, see, if we tank, we can get a top 10 pick. That pick MIGHT, in 2-3 years, replace one of the two top prospects we send to the Mets for Dickey.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 anyone 'sickened' by cheering for a tank should probably just stay out of a thread that's named 'reverse standings thread' just say'n

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 McGuire was 2010 first round pick Jenkins was 2009 first round pick This is 2014, we have a different draft strategy now New strategy is "Injury players"
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 There's nothing wrong with cheering for a top-ten pick, since that could make a massive difference. It's not "do they pick 9th or 17th?", it's "do they pick 9th or not at all?" So I don't really care about the pick's placement in the top-ten as long as it's in there. It's not about pick #10, #11 or #12......its about sign Garza and don't lose a first round pick.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Josh Thole batting 6th... this tank mode should be fairly easy.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 I've never understood why people are against tank nation at this point of the year. I'm all for it, would love a top 5 pick. Only thing I don't like about it is cheering against say stroman if he gets a start on Saturday. In that case I hope he would go 7 great innings and Oliver blows it in the 8th.

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Yes! Selective rooting ftw. 100% on board with this, I have been selective rooting for months now! Lawrie! Eddie! Joey Bats! Gose!
Howard Roark Verified Member Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It's not even Cheering for them to lose, they're doing it themselves , we have no barring over wins and losses? I'll always cheer for the Birds, if they lose there's something to hang a hat on. That's what I've been feeling. if we win, great, and if we lose, there's a big fat silver lining. Still, my preference at this point is always a loss, at least until we're comfortably in the bottom 5.

Who would have thought we'd have a batting order anytime this year of: DeRosa, Davis, EE, Lind, Lawrie, Thole, Pillar, Gose, Kawasaki.

imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted August 22, 2013 Posted August 22, 2013 Irrelevant yes. But considering Dickey was suppose too "put us over the top". And the Mets currently have a better win/loss record. That's pretty painful. What we traded is just flat out depressing. Wanting too loose games. Baseball draft is a crap shoot. The Rays have developed many fine pitchers in the later rounds. It's about player development not where you pick in the draft. I refuse to cheer too lose. If we play the young players and lose I can live with that. But picking 4 or 5 slots higher isn't going too fix our problem. It's painful to hear you still want to win and somehow make the playoffs? If we get a protected pick then it does matter
