Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Maybe cause Janssen has been really good for a few years now and Cecil has been rather s***** up until this year? You might not agree, but I understand the skepticism.
SexyNewForum Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 tough to say if we should keep the little prospects we have or just BUY and hope to squeeze into the playoffs with an acquired pitcher AA did somewhat go all in so i wouldn't mind if he went ahead and traded what we have left in the minors. (in 2 years, season of 2015 if the team stinks) If it fails, I would be okay with a rebuild, shipping all the valuable contracts and letting the s*** ones run out while acquiring high draft picks. Nothing worse than mediocrity in my opinion
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 No need for exporting: http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=c&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=0&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0,ss&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 How the f*** did I never notice that. THANK YOU. That's gonna save me a lot of time lol.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Oh man.....in a New York minute!! 0% chance AA sells off Jose and JJ for two guys who can only help the AAA team this year.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 You'd have to be completely sold on Taveras as a star going forward to make that deal. You have to love the tool-set but, I'm not convinced enough to pull the theoretical trigger.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 MLBTR reported today that the Cubs are ready to sell. They'd have a few names I'd be interested in including; Starlin Castro Edwin Jackson Matt Garza Alfonso Soriano Carlos Villanueva Scott Feldman E-Jax and Castro would be my two big buy-low targets.

I would doubt that they would sell low on Castro he is still 23 and has shown past success it would take a haul to get him.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Sorry, I didn't mean buying low on Castro as in pennies on the dollar. Just significantly less than at any other point in his career. I'm sure the Cubs are still high on him and would still want a haul, just a smaller one than a t this point last season.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 What do you guys think of trading with Philadelphia for Michael Young? The Phillies are pretty much going nowhere, and Young is a free agent after this season. Texas covered about 10mm of Young's 16mm annual salary, meaning if we traded for him in say July, there would only be about 3mm left to pay him. Now the Phillies didn't trade much to get him, two relievers who don't even rank among Texas' top 20 Prospects currently. So theoretically we should be able to get him without giving up any of our top prospects since the Phillies basically got him for free. Young is still productive despite his age, hitting .290/.357/.402 with 3hr 17rbi 12(2b) 3(3b) 25bb 36k And hitting well with RISP .288/.403/.404 and RISP/w2out .296/.406/.519 We could plug him in at second base, and he could also see time at first or third. He's not a great defender, but he should be as good as Derosa, and his bat would give our lineup more on base ability and clutch hitting. Reyes SS Bautista RF Encarnacion 1B Lind DH Young 2B Melky LF JP C Rasmus CF Lawrie 3B
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Young is HORRIBLE in the field and only has a .332 wOBA. It's not a bad idea if we don't give up much though. Maybe Moises Sierra?

I'd be fine with that. Young is pretty bad in the field, but even without the benefit of defensive metrics I can't imagine he'd be any worse than Derosa at second.

I wouldn't even give up that much... Some non-prospect who's like 28 in A ball should be enough at this point.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 White Sox Getting Calls On Veterans By Steve Adams [June 21, 2013 at 1:42pm CST] We learned earlier today that the Cubs are "open for business" and ready to sell, and it sounds like Chicago's other team may not be far behind. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports spoke with White Sox GM Rick Hahn recently, who confirmed that other teams have begun to express interest in his players: "We are getting phone calls, and they will probably become a little bit more voluminous if we don't turn it around pretty quickly," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said. Heyman's sources indicate that Alex Rios and Alexei Ramirez will at least be discussed, with one rival general manager telling him that Rios will draw more interest. Rios,32, is owed $12.5MM in 2014, the final guaranteed year of his contract, though his deal contains a club option as well. Ramirez, 31, is controlled through 2015 and owed $9.5MM in 2014, $10MM in 2015 and has a $1MM buyout on his $10MM club option for 2016. Heyman also speculates that names such as Jake Peavy, Jesse Crain, Matt Thornton, Matt Lindstrom and perhaps even Gordon Beckham will become available if the White Sox do indeed take the position of sellers this July. Crain, of course, is on a historic run, having fired 28 shutout innings over his past 28 appearances with a 37-to-7 K/BB ratio in that time.

If it weren't for how stellar our pen has been, I'd be totally interested in Thornton...
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Lopes + Norris + Pillar for Ramirez, who says no first? Ultimately, I think the White Sox are looking for a truly elite prospect and not a package of upside guys like in my hypothetical trade.

I'd rather not.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Baseball reference is higher on him than Fangraphs. He's still a borderline top 10 SS on a decent contract. It's going to cost quite a bit to land him.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 The league average bat is about the same at both positions so I'd certainly consider it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I don't mind the idea of trading for him, but I wouldn't give up that much. I think I'd do *either* Norris or Lopes + Pillar for him. One must think that Martin Prado is a nice buy low option.

One thing that you are going to be trading for as well is his defense at SS (which he will not be playing) so he is not as valuable to us.
admin Site Manager Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Man, White Sox don't look to good. Konerko and Dunn done in the next 1-2 years, that's a pretty empty lineup. One more year on Rios' contract too.

Who would Rios replace, Melky? Don't see that being a good fit, especially if Rios' substance problems were as well known as you indicate.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Could always move joey bats to 3rd base if you want to go that route...
