DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 DeRosa is the backup C, duh! But ya that was definitely an oversight, Blanco is just so terrible. I'd look to move one of Davis/Boni ahead of DFA'ing DeRosa (opening the roster spot in the off-season would be good idea IMO) but, if you can't get any value back let the old man go.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Boni is traded for a reliever. Book it!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 We're not gonna make Reyes shift from his favoured position he's played all his life so that we can fit in Kawasaki. If anything it's the other way around. I don't think Reyes would go to second base. You don't ask Reyes to move to second for Kawasaki I agree lol. Though I don't think Chappy meant it like that.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Boni is traded for a reliever. Book it! If it was, like, Sean Doolittle or something, I wouldn't be upset.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I'm not sure the A's would part with Doolittle for Bonafacio lol. I bet AA takes on a fireballer with control problems haha. Boni for Henry Rodriguez of the Nats. Book it! I could see AA making that type of deal for Boni haha.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I'd rather keep Kawasaki than Izturis, but AA gave him a 3 year contract for some reason.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 AA said Kawasaki to AAA when Reyes comes back This will probably sort itself out with injuries regardless, but i'd rather ditch Boni for cash and keep Kawasaki at 2B with Izturis on the bench.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 AA said Kawasaki to AAA when Reyes comes back f***ing stupid
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Mark Buerhle says Kawasaki is the best team mate he's EVER had They gotta keep him AA needs to find the balls to get rid of one of Bonifacio, Izturis or DeDosa when Reyes gets back.
Knights4Cup Verified Member Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 If you want the best possible team, you keep Kawasaki and get rid of Izturis/Bonifacio. All 3 are pretty average players but every time I see Izturis swing at a bad pitch early in the count or Bonifacio just in the field I cringe. At least Kawasaki is consitent on D for the most part and has a smart approach at the plate unlike 80% of the team.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 Don't get me wrong I love Kawasaki, but I'm getting a little tired of seeing him ALMOST make great plays.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I think I've accepted that Kawasaki is best used as depth and not an every day MLB player
flafson Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 What scares me is how the team going to gel if they send Kawasaki down, it could kill the team spirit.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Kawasaki absolutely needs to be sent down, and it's the right baseball situation. If Kawasaki weren't such a goofy, lovable guy, would you feel the same way about him? The only thing he provides is a good approach at the plate. His defense is average and his hit tool is pathetic. But he takes a lot of pitches and spoils tough ones. There are a lot of guys in the minors that can do that. If I had to choose between Kawasaki, Wagner and Perez, I'd choose the first option. Wagner is doing great and will contribute more than Kawasaki will. Perez would have to go on waivers and his performance so for guarantees he will be claimed.

I like kawasaki but with reyes back & izturis/Bonifacio playing better, kawasaki wouldn't get many at bats. The lock down bullpen is key to the jays success going forward

If this were to happen I would want the Jays to call a press conference so he can pull out his phrase book again to thank Toronto for giving him an opportunity to succeed.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 He's outperforming Bonifacio (Kawi) by a fairly decent margin. He's getting on base at a solid enough clip and hasn't made any stupid fielding errors for a long time. He doesn't deserve to be sent down over Boni regardless of his personality.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I was at the ballgame Monday night and the biggest applause was for Mooney as a replacement in the 9th, lol. I just laughed and shook my head. The only way I see Kawasaki staying is if Melky goes on the DL. I don't even see that. The guy is an average fielding only SS. We have other guys that can play multiple positions and hit better. That would be better IMO off the bench. I'm sorry but if he had a Mike McCoy type personality there would not be this much discussion over it.

I'd be interested in seeing the average number of pitches per at bat for our hitters. I'd imagine Kawasaki would probably be one of the top few players on that. It's refreshing to see him not just try to bash the first pitch.

With higher counts, more walks emerge, but more strikeouts emerge too, so unless Kawasaki can maintain his contact rate, I don't know if this is a significantly good thing.

True. However I wouldn't be as upset if it was an 8 or 9 pitch strikeout compared to lets say a 3 pitch swing-and-miss-a-thon that JPA tends to go for.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 Huh? If Melky goes on the DL, they'd use Boni and Davis as a platoon. Mooney will still have a spot on the bench, I'm not saying keep Saki as a mascot, or did you read my post wrong? I kind of got what you were saying lol. But I am not 100% they keep Moooony on if Melky goes on the DL, I would think they will use Davis 90% of the time in the OF and may bring up a guy like Gose to take his spot on the bench because we would have all kinds of infielders on the bench but no real versatile outfielders. Maybe I am crazy I don't know.
dmrich28 Verified Member Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I can't see Gibbons messing around with the best part of the team (bullpen) and sending any of them down. Bye Kawasaki. Unless Melky goes on DL of course.

Unless Melky goes on DL of course. The more I think about it, the more I agree you are correct. At first I would have liked to keep Kawasaki up, but he has options and we probably shouldn't mess with the pen at all right now. Kawasaki would provide some nice insurance in AAA as well.
