KSaw Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The Jays are 7.5 games back with 3 contenders ahead of them. I'm ignoring Boston who like many early season pretenders before them, will finish last. Lot of baseball to go folks...
Caper Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 We're 8.5 games back... Which is better then what I hoped for after Saturday. I was hoping to be 5 back by end of June, then I thought we had a chance when Reyes came back.
ScottGer76 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I don't think the Red Sox will finish last to be honest. There top two are returning to there career norms and the lineup is retty solid. Who knows maybe Napoli will have problems with his hips and Ortiz will DL again.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Boston isn't as bad as we all thought. But Ortiz and Buchholz aren't going to continue at this pace..
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Boston isn't as bad as we all thought. But Ortiz and Buchholz aren't going to continue at this pace.. No, they won't, but they have enough of a track record that they don't need to produce like they are in order to be productive. Same with Lester. Pre season, I think everyone was expecting a lot of 'IF's' from that rotation. So far they have shown that the rotation is solid. As for the offense, they don't have any star power. But they have a lot of good average players. I'm sure people here were thinking that Napoli was done. Still unsure of that bullpen though.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Boston isn't as bad as we all thought. But Ortiz and Buchholz aren't going to continue at this pace.. For sure But as you say they are definitely better than almost everyone thought I don't think they are a last place team and I don't think the Jays are either I can't believe I'm saying this now but I can actually picture Tampa finishing last in the AL East. I never even thought that remotely possible as the season was starting. Their picthing is good but the offense and defense are both very sub par. They miss Upton and Shields and the replacements are not good. I think Boston and Baltimore might actually both be better than Tampa this year.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I think if we're going to dream about this season not being over we should concentrate on the wild card. 6.5 gams back, which considering our start isn't horrible. Just a lot of teams to jump. Next is white sox at 5 games back, then the rays.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I'm more concerned that we just don't have playoff-level talent anymore. The rotation was going to be the big strength, and now there are only three guys left. Somebody's going to need to step up until JJ is back and productive, and even JJ is far from a sure thing. The rotation was doing bad before the injuries, it's a major concern. We need Buerhle, dickey to get on track, and romero to regain form.

I doubt they finish last, in fact I am pretty darn confident they won't. Their lineup is pretty solid up and down and they get on base a ton, they will score enough to win a bunch of games and the rotation with the top three is solid.

We need Buerhle, dickey to get on track, and romero to regain form. Hopefully Romero can at least keep us in games, if he can I have confidence that this offense will win us some games. Plus our pen is solid to help pickup some of the starters. That being said, we really need JJ back and healthy. We haven't seen how good he can be yet.

Agreed, JJ can be dominant, we could really use that right now.

Obviously their bullpen is the big wildcard now that a couple of guys have gone down. Will be interesting to see how the next 10-20 games for them.
admin Site Manager Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 6.5 back from wild car. Go on a 8-2 stretch and we'll be a few games back. Stay within striking distance until Reyes gets back. Possible move at deadline and we're good.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Possible move at deadline One of these scares me more than anything.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 With our relative few tradeable pieces, I think one has to assume that either The Sanchize, Gose or Osuna are parted with in any deadline deal. To me that is one scary god damn propositiom.

I don't see how any team in the AL East looks better than Boston, I have zero idea why they had a bad wrap to begin with.

Well the Yanks have a lot of talent coming back in to play. I also have a lot more faith in Showalter/Girardi on the managerial front. Not to mention Maddon being the biggest gun of a manager in the league. I see Boston finishing fifth, though if Ortiz continues his torrid pace he will give them alot of aid in rising above mediocrity.
Sparky12 Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Our offense is starting to come around which is great. We need dickey and morrow to be dominant and buhrle and Romero to keep us in games and were in fine shape.

JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I think Boston is legit. Obviously their current pace is unsustainable but I think they still have 90+ win potential. You guys make it sound like the Sox are fielding a bunch of bums. Ellsbury, Pedrioa, Ortiz, Victorino, & Napoli are all high profile players that have had tremendous success in this league.
KSaw Verified Member Posted May 9, 2013 Author Posted May 9, 2013 How do you define season over? Here's perhaps one way-- AA requesting the Brewers' medical report on Kevim Escobar from March. Has it really come to this?

Have "HAD" success. Previous success means nothing. Eg. Romero. Pedroia's numbers are heading down. Napoli will not make it through the entire season without a stay on the DL. Ortiz same thing. I thought that Boston would end up either 4/5, and even their fast start hasn't changed my mind.
