KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Well the question is why was he available?? I have a feeling were gonna see Donaldson get pretty pissed in 6 weeks time if the team is completely out of it and he's wasting an MVP season in nowhere land,. I think you might be on to something but at the same time that's very much a "cross that bridge when you get to it" kind of issue. I mean you bring in Donaldson to win. If you don't win, that doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea to bring him in. It just means some of the other planning worked out poorly and if that's the case an upset Donaldson is a secondary issue. The fundamental issue is that you're not winning.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 If the Jays have any plans for Boyd beyond trading him, then he should be in AAA. The Jays need SP depth, especially with Buehrle in his final year and Dickey being a questionable pitcher to pick up the option on. Let Boyd get as much high minors experience as possible.

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 It wasn't an overpay but the idea is to win.. It just seems people are jumping the gun here... Donaldson had a great 2 months... 2 months from now he could cool down, Lawrie and Gravemen could be hot, Oakland could be back in it, Baretto could be one of the best prospects in baseball... Oakland could be set for the next 4 years and the Blue Jays could have the most disfunctional franchise in baseball. So Oakland could potentially be set for the next four years if Lawrie and Graveman get hot and Barretto emerges as one of the best prospects in baseball? Every one of your hypothetical scenarios (that are typically so out of touch) involve a catastrophe on the Jays' end, and every other team reaping the success. Maybe kick back and enjoy watching an elite player do elite things for the Jays instead of expressing all the "could be" thoughts that you can think of.
JuniorFelix Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 sounds like he may not like to work in the off season. not good for a guy who may not be athletic enough to stick at SS He looks like he might have a bat that will play at 2B or even 3B. He's 19.

What stood out to me was his size and maturity...he looks and plays like a 24 year old...covers a ton of ground in CF. He's going to turn some heads.

" almost as if they don't know what to do with him... Blue Jays from Away @JaysFromAway 1m1 minute ago @_ClintB_ i.e., Boyd is the best pitcher in EL this year but they don't like his stuff so they have to slag him.

His last year with us he posted pretty good numbers in Vegas and led the PCL in K's. Of course we knew his stuff and we dismissed his numbers. Boyd has better stuff I suppose, and it may look better in the BP.

Even if Boyd doesn't have dominating stuff as a lefty with good command and velocity he has a decent shot at being a back end starter.

IMHO it's usually whats between the ears for pitchers that makes it or breaks it for them.
