  1. I voted Tepera. I think that ideally, Tepera has a long relief mop-up role with the Jays which would be different than Barnes's one inning style. Tepera has had 4 one inning appearances, all scoreless. His value for the Jays is pitching those games where they're down 8-0 through 4 innings and Gibby doesn't have to burn Biagini or another high leverage guy on a game they're very unlikely to win. Tepera has shown he can pitch those single innings but those 2 or 3 innings are what makes it worthwhile for the Jays to have him in the 'pen. Tepera suits that role better than anyone else we have. I do like Barnes and ideally, both can be in the 'pen. Barnes could make his way as a replacement for Leone if he implodes (although he has pitched well so far) or if Grilli continues to disappoint.
  2. Oregon Pitcher David Peterson struck out 20 yesterday while allowing 4 hits and 1 walk in a CG Shoutout on 123 pitches. His delivery and arm angle reminds me of Andrew Miller, although Peterson's breaking ball seems more like a Bumgarner type slider rather than a sharp-breaking Miller slider. Could be a target for the Jays at 28 as MLB.com has him ranked at 31, although some pre draft helium could force the Jays hand at 22. Here's a link to the game highlights from yesterday:
  3. Vlad Jr. who hit his 5th homerun today has 14 stolen bases this year in 42 games and has only been caught twice. MLB.com has him rated at 35 speed. Anthony Alford in almost twice as many AB's has 14 SB's. Alford's speed is rated at 70 on MLB.com. Also in terms of the argument that Alford has been banged up, DJ Davis has a lower SB/AB ratio than Vlad Jr.
  4. Shapiro really digging through the forum archives.
  5. Bolsinger is a good get. Control through 2022, 3.62 ERA in 21 starts last year with 109 IP and 98 K's and a 3.91 FIP
  6. Santana - 3 Top 5 Prospects < Dickey+Thole
  7. Couple good outings from Jays pitchers today, Conner Greene and Wilfri Aleton. Greene pitched all 7 innings for the first half of the Fisher Cats doubleheader and picked up the complete game shutout. His final line was 7IP 4H 2BB 7K with a GB/FB ratio of 7-1. Meanwhile "Big Wilf" finished with a line of 6IP 4H 1BB 7K and a GB/FB ratio of 7-2. He's pitched very well recently and dropped his season ERA to 1.69. My guess would be most of the call-ups and roster shuffling would occur after the NWL All-Star Game on August 2nd which is effectively the end of the first half for short-season ball.
  8. Former MWL MVP Ryan McBroom making his AA debut tonight. He's not at the same level as Tellez but I still think he could be a solid major leaguer.
  9. Devlin would be so much better if he wasn't afraid of silence.
  10. IMO I think Atkins is a good hire. LaCava would do a good job also, but the ability to bring another bright baseball mind, which Atkins, by all accounts, appears to be, can only be good for the organization.
  11. Graveman and Girodo were teammates at Mississippi St also.
  12. I wouldn't mind seeing Chad Girodo getting called up. He profiles nicely as a future LOOGY. In 21 games in NH this year he's thrown 29 innings of ball with a 0.62 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP with 23 K's and only 2 walks. But his lefty splits are ridiculous!!! Lefties are hiting .098 against him and are averaging 2 GO/AO. I'd love to see what he looks like in September as opposed to giving those appearances to someone like Hynes. He's not on the 40-man but that could be fixed by designating Don Roach for assignment.
  13. The last Lugnut to be named MVP was also 23 years old. His name: Kevin Pillar
  14. Was just talking to my friend yesterday and he said he always wanted to follow baseball but just needed a team to cheer for. He would have cheered for Blue Jays except for the fact they never really competed into August and September. I never really followed the Raptors until after they traded for Rudy Gay and now I consider myself a Raptors and a basketball fan. Sure we will definitely have an influx of fans that don't know anyone in ALL OF BASEBALL except for Bautista, Donaldson, Price and Tulowitzki. But overall I'd much rather have a team that goes out and competes in October with the stands full of enthusiastic bandwagon fans then sit and watch the Yankees or Orioles "represent the AL East" in the playoffs.
  15. I'm watching Mark Buehrle's interview on Sportsnet and you can hear Diamonds by Rihanna blaring in the background. LOL
  16. Bit late on this but yesterday I watched the end of the Cards-Rockies game on MLB Network. Tie ball game in the bottom of the 9th inning. Ball hit to Jose Reyes at short, who bobbles the ball and can't throw out Grichuk at 1st. Next batter, Brandon Moss hits walkoff single. In summary, Reyes's defensive blunder leads to Cardinals win.
  17. I think with the way Manfred has been making radical changes (the pitch clock, batting box violations and vastly expanded instant replay) it's very possible we see a massive overhaul of the officiating system in the next 2-3 years.
  18. I think Osuna should slot in there and have Sanchez close. Free Agent Stroman Hutchison Dickey Osuna
  19. Disappointing to see Valencia go. I was at the game last night early and was standing around some autograph hounds that kept asking Bautista, Tulo and others to sign some pictures. Danny walked out of the dugout and as he was walking by just said, "They can hear you guys." LOL Besides what he did on the field he seemed like a really valuable part of the clubhouse and will be missed for sure!!!
  20. I'd rather face Astros because we'll most likely face Keuchel or Kazmir. Jays absolutely mash against lefties.
  21. Looking at the guys San Fran gave up, the two guys values were most similar Sean Reid-Foley and Andy Burns according to MLB.com scouting profiles.
  22. Article on Fangraphs showing comparables for Norris, Labourt and Boyd. Makes you feel a lot better saying goodbye to Gavin Floyd, Rocky Biddle and Tom Gorzelanny. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/projecting-the-players-in-the-david-price-trade/
  23. Having them here makes it easier to move SRF, Greene, Borucki etc.
  24. Don't forget 2015 picks Harris and Maese
