Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So how good is anthony alford? Just saw a tweet saying he has 32 walks in 32 games. Adam Jones + ~10% walk rate
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So how good is anthony alford? Just saw a tweet saying he has 32 walks in 32 games. Anthony Alford is everything and nothing, simultaneously.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Adam Jones + ~10% walk rate We can only dream.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 So basically Mike Trout-lite? NO. Adam Jones GG + clubhouse leader > Mike Trout
fireballW Verified Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Alford is nothing until he shows he can get his strikeout rate down and make more contact. If he learns to hit his eye will be useful, otherwise major league pitchers will just throw strikes and eat him alive.
King Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Christian Lopes demoted from NH to Dunedin. His prospect stock fell pretty quickly. I remember he hit very well in his first 3 months in Lansing, then faultered for the rest of that year and hasn't hit since.
metafour Verified Member Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Blue Jays heavy in this week's BA Hot Sheet: 3. Richard Urena, ss, Blue Jays Team: low Class A Lansing (Midwest) Age: 19 Why He’s Here: .406/.441/.656 (13-for-32), 9 R, 2 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBIs, 2 BB, 7 SO It’s been a slow start for Urena, a Dominican native who had to adjust to his first experience of playing in the cold temperatures of the Midwest League in April. While he typically has shown a solid hitting approach with below-average power that figured to max out around 10 home runs per year, Urena has looked like a different type of player at the plate this season, with a more free-swinging style but already seven home runs in 41 games. What’s obvious is that Urena, who began switch-hitting last year, is still far more comfortable from his natural left side, batting .302/.313/.473 in 129 at-bats as a lefty and just .174/.200/.261 in 46 at-bats righthanded. 13. Matt Boyd, lhp, Blue Jays Team: Double-A New Hampshire (Eastern) Age: 24 Why He’s Here: 1-0, 1.93, 2 GS, 14 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 BB, 12 SO Boyd had little trouble with the high Class A Florida State League last year, but he got wrecked when he reached Double-A, posting a 6.96 ERA in 43 innings. He has been much better in his second crack at the Eastern League, with a 1.23 ERA in 58 innings with 9.3 strikeouts and 2.3 walks per nine innings. What jumps out the most, though, is the difference in his stuff. After sitting at 88-91 mph and touching 93 last year, Boyd has been sitting 90-93 mph and touching 95 this year, which helps his breaking ball and changeup play up. Boyd now looks like a legitimate candidate to be a back-end starter (or solid reliever) and possibly help the Blue Jays this year. “He’s one of the best arms we’ve seen all year,” New Britain manager Darin Everson said. 16. Rowdy Tellez, 1b, Blue Jays Team: low Class A Lansing (Midwest) Age: 20 Why He’s Here: .375/.394/.531 (12-for-32), 3 R, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 3 SO The Midwest League has been swallowing up and spitting out prime prospects this year. See: the Mariners’ Alex Jackson, who already has been sent back to extended spring training with a shoulder injury; the Brewers’ Monte Harrison, who is batting .157; and the Padres’ Michael Gettys, whose 62-to-5 strikeout-to-walk ratio is, um, troubling. Tellez has avoided those pitfalls, partly because the Blue Jays have put him on a very slow track. Considered one of the more polished high school bats in the 2013 draft class, he spent the better part of two seasons in Rookie ball before reaching Lansing. He’s been part of an impressive group of Lugnuts bounce-back players that also includes outfielders Anthony Alford and D.J. Davis.

If he learns to hit his eye will be useful, otherwise major league pitchers will just throw strikes and eat him alive. Yawn. The hype is real, as are the skills he is showing. "Make more contact"? He's smacking the ball around. What he is showing is highly encouraging coming from a kid who's barely seen live pitching in three years. Steve (Toronto): What are your thoughts on Anthony Alford? He's been on base nearly half the time this season. Getting excited about his transition to baseball full time. Ben Badler: You should be. The power’s not showing up yet in games, but the raw power is definitely in there and he’s stinging the ball every time he connects. There’s still some understandable rawness to his game, but the plate patience is already there and he’s obviously a dynamite athlete. We could be looking at a huge breakthrough very soon.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Not unless they're doing TJ on hands now. Have you seen Miguel Castro's hands? Weird-ass spider fingers probably DO need TJS... This one time, dude tried to finger 2 girls at once... There were no survivors. http://i.imgur.com/oSWPZcX.jpg

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Doubront to the rotation, Dickey to the pen? Does the Dickey Effect help in the pen since he looks done as a starter? maybe Dickey could get his knuckle ball back up to 79mph if he only has to pitch 1 or 2 innings at a time.
