  1. Nothing wrong with his old haircut.
  2. Not quite. He averaged 5.2 innings which was basically league average for a starter (5.1 innings) and he's been used at almost exactly the same length this year. He's no front-end starter, but he definitely is useful to any potential playoff team struggling with starter depth.
  3. I want some of whatever Mike is smoking.
  4. Yup, he's probably a 90 - 95 wRC+ hitter and that is perfectly acceptable for an elite defensive CFer.
  5. Come on, let's make him pay....
  6. Max, I'm curious on your thoughts. What do you think a) Vladdy's market value would be based on how things stand now (i.e. if he theoretically hit the market with these numbers); and what is the max figure you would be willing to extend him for right now weighing all the risk/reward as well as some of the intangibles (i.e. fan engagement, marketing).
  7. This is a rapidly sinking ship.
  8. Isn't his AAV at $27.5? That would still be behind Vlad at this theoretical $240/8 year contract.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but $240M/8 would make Vladdy the highest paid 1B in the MLB. Granted it's the younger years, Age 27-34 seasons, but I can't see it with the performance over the last couple years. If he suddenly starts putting things together in the second half, it's a possibility, but I'm just looking at the situation as it stands. I am 100% walking away from $240M for this guy.
  10. I wonder if there are any age precedents for players who have struggled this much after putting up 16 WAR by age 25 (aside from Vlad *groan*).
  11. No team is giving him 200M, but if he thinks he's still going to get big money, he's not going to sign an extension and he's going to go to the highest bidder. Just the fact that he's talking about how 'it's a business' and 'I'm a professional' and he'd go to the Yankees now tells you where his head is at. I think the question here is, would we be able to sign him to a market value extension given his recent performance, age, upside, etc. before he hits the market, and if not, is now the time to maximize a return for him when we clearly don't have a contender this year (or likely next).
  12. Agree. I still think there will be a few GMs that will look at the flowing locks of Bo and see an age 26 player with proven 5 WAR upside. The haul would have been huge in the off season, now there is clearly a reclamation project discount. I still think you move him for the best offer. It's almost guaranteed this guy will overvalue himself when it comes time for contract negotiations ala Chapman.
  13. Super disappointing. Plus the scouting report on Spencer Spaghetti says he has a limp noodle bat.
  14. Marty f-king York. I still remember that hack. Rosie DiManno is like Marty York lite and that's saying something.
  15. Varsho is on pace for a four to five win season you nitwit. He’s one of the few bright spots this year.
  16. I need a stiff drink.
  17. Wow. I'm a full blown capitalist, but this sir is a crime against humanity.
  18. That was an elite level smirk.
  19. The endless shrimp was the final nail in the coffin for Red Lobster. Now Swiss Chalet is offering endless ribs... I don't have a good feeling about this.
  20. Hey pal, I actually wasn't referring to you as a miserable SOB. If I recall correctly, you're a fellow whiskey drinker looking for a reason to celebrate something Jays related. Let me clarify there's only a few around here that grind my gears and seem to take joy from things going wrong. The board here as a whole is a great group with great discussion. I have no issue with people poking holes in what Shapiro and Atkins has done here - for the record I was bitching and moaning during the offseason. I thought the Jays needed to bring Teo back and wanted to see Horwitz with some audition time. Sadly, still wouldn't have been enough for this clusterf*ck of a season.
  21. Before I finally joined the board I’d been just reading the board for about 10 years prior. So I’m new to everyone, but most here aren’t new to me. JPR sucked. Atkins has had ample opportunity here to show he could build a sustainable winner and has burned through all his earned goodwill in the last couple years. I am a little concerned that if Atkins gets canned that Shapiro brings in another lackey to run the org the same way. We need to go in a radically different direction from top to bottom.
  22. Why would anyone hide for being positive about their sports team? I think everyone was pretty concerned about the coming season after the Jays' off-season moves. Sometimes that's the way things go, we're all Jays fans and we all want to see these guys win, we just have different opinions from time to time on how we get there. I'll take all those listed guys 10 times out of 10 over those cynical, miserable SOBs who only post when things are going wrong (not just this year, but EVERY year). Those bastards want to constantly s*** on everything and everyone and always have all the answers, but also s*** the bed when given even a simple fantasy league team to run. We're all in this together man, we all want the same thing. Baseball is a game of probabilities and the probabilities are not working out for us this year for a ton of reasons, some could have been reasonably predicted, others couldn't. Maybe we can still make some lemonade out of this sour season and get some fresh eyes over this org.
  23. Brutal timing. He just needed to hold it together a little longer to maximize a potential return.
  24. Yup, this is so true. You can drastically and immediately improve the farm and have tons of payroll flexibility for the next couple years.
