  1. Your friend is a perv. I wonder what his forum name would be.
  2. This is a knee-jerk take. A more wise take would be "they can't make the post season as the team stands". Let's see what the team looks like in the 2025 pre-season before we cement the odds of a wildcard. If the team is genuinely going for it, they could have $55M and a bit of trade depth to improve the team. As Term said above, let's not conflate whether they can make it with whether they should.
  3. Yeah, I don't disagree. Maybe a 78 win team? Then the question is whether the org can add 8+ WAR with $55M and some better luck.
  4. Yup. Everyone seems to suffer from recency bias. Last year (and early in the season) everyone was clammering to extend Bo and trade Vlad. Now some want to drop $300M on Vladdy (instead of sending him to Indy ball) and want to trade Bo for cents on the dollar. Projections have to be where you start from. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to put together a wild card competitor if Rogers is willing to spend again. The Jays may also get some unexpected value from where you least expect it. A silver lining on this season are the ABs Schneider will be forced to give to young controllable players (Horwitz, clement, Schneider, Loperfido) to see what we have and hopefully plug a big hole or two at minimal cost.
  5. I was worried that the last few starts by Kikuchi would have torpedoed his value, but... goddamn that's a good result. At these prices, they have to move Bassitt next and try to figure out the rotation in the offseason.
  6. Yup, preferably both, but I'm not holding my breath. I think Green is moving and they'll get under the luxury tax.
  7. That's a good question - I thought we were celebrating this deal for Turner. We turned a bag of lemons into a dash of lemonade.
  8. Tidy bit of business on that one.
  9. Jansen always seemed like a class act to me, I was always a fan, even through all his injury challenges. This is the first one in awhile that pulled on the heartstrings a bit.... Hopefully he goes on on to have a long career in the game.
  10. I'd say closer to 0%.
  11. Agreed, that would have been the best move. My point was if they were going to try to stretch him out for some dumb reason they have to at least be ready to yank immediately. This is just ludicrous.
  12. The first sign of any trouble (first batter on base) and Kikuchi should have been pulled. No one is on the same page in this org.
  13. I don't disagree that there are enough possible signings to plug a non-putrid arm in the rotation or one with upside. However, replacing him with a somewhat predictable arm (decent track record, decent age, not coming off a major injury) that can plug innings (180-200IP) is no easy task and doesn't typically come cheap. As you said, many of these pitchers wouldn't be considered as 'reliable' or have the same track record as Bassitt, and some are clearly on the wrong side of their career (Lynn, Gibson). Others might not be interested in signing with Toronto. It's not 'easy' replacing Bassitt, but I'm on the same page. Sell, sell, sell, if you can get premium value for him.
  14. While I agree with you, I also find it kind of humorous how easy everyone seems to think it is to get a reliable innings eater in FA (that isn't an ancient or broken arm) at a reasonable price.
  15. Could be three if you include Teo: “At the beginning, they said to not forget about them. Obviously when we exchanged numbers and years and all that stuff, they said they could not go that far. That was about it,” Hernández stated. It's hard to fathom how the off-season went down, unless there really is a different side to all these individual stories from the players. Not that any of these signings would really matter in terms of in-season results given the complete collapse of the pitching staff, BUT, certainly matters when evaluating the competence of the front office.
  16. That still has a lot of value at league minimum. I don't see his length as an issue, he's essentially a league average starter for IP per start. Will be interesting to see what he becomes.
  17. Cruel.
  18. Amen. If Varsho was starting CFer, the Jays would probably be 5th or 6th out of all 30 MLB teams at CF by WAR. Yet there are some guys around here that just can't let go of their Varsho bashing. Saying that he has little value or wouldn't start on a playoff team just shows a stunning lack of baseball knowledge.
  19. that was poetic. Thanks for reminding me it could be worse - I could be an A's fan.
  20. Isn’t Keith Hernandez the gold standard ahole who fired that magic loogie?
  21. Bo will probably go on a tear after the trade deadline. Makes me sad.
  22. The tune on Vlad sure changed in a hurry.
