  1. that's disappointing that Swanson is still at least 3 weeks away.
  2. I wanted to say Lloyd Moseby, but I'm pretty sure he wore batting gloves. Mookie Wilson?
  3. You mean the guy who already has 0.6 bWAR (tied with our half a billion dollar man and only behind Heineman and Springer)?
  4. As a jays fan, I loved the contract he signed with the Yanks as I thought it was going to age so poorly. He's put up so much value already it's a huge win for them and now the Jays have saddled themselves to an even more expensive and longer contract for a player who puts up nowhere near the numbers Judge does :(
  5. This is exactly the point we are making. He didn’t react to how gassed Yimi looked and managed according to the stat sheet/metrics to a fault.
  6. I don’t think the criticism is as much on putting him out there as it is on leaving him out there after 30 pitches and looking just gassed.
  7. It feels like they go into a game or inning often with a plan they want to stick too and don’t adjust based on what is happening. We’ve seen starters dealing pulled early or after a single runner reaches base and cases where guys who don’t have it are left in longer than they should.
  8. How Schneider let him face Schneeman is beyond me. He was clearly gassed and had nothing.
  9. I would be interested to know some things that could relate. Ie what is the Jays ground ball rate relative to other years and teams? Are they hitting grounders harder than other teams which would lead to legging out less hits. What percentage of their grounders are hit by slowpokes like Kirk and Vlad?
  10. Dante Jr is playing as well so I guess him and Bo are on good terms despite the controversy between Sr and Jr
  11. I am positive it is just coincidence but pretty sure all 7 runs and 3 homers came after Popkins was ejected.
  12. Never in doubt. I definitely didn't mutter to myself "This team is so F&%^ing bad" many times early in the game last night.
  13. LouBob has an ops of .588...he's not the saviour.
  14. Shouldn't he be sacrificing that power to put it the other way?
  15. Just one comes to mind this year
  16. Read this article and start to understand why our hitting is in the state it is. Mattingly didn't have a clue what he was doing let alone how to explain it to someone else. Granted he was 24 here, but it seems much of his philosophy is still on the wrong side of this conversation. https://vault.si.com/vault/1986/04/14/a-real-rap-session Some Highlights: 1. the whole start of the conversation about shifting weight. Very interesting read. 2. "BOGGS: If your name was Webster, not Williams, what would be your definition of a slump? WILLIAMS: The inability to get hold of a ball and hit it with authority according to my potential." " 3. Do you think you make more outs in the air or on the ground? MATTINGLY: I think more in the air. WILLIAMS: I tried to hit every ball I ever hit in the air, and I made more outs on the ground than in the air. Wade, I know you make more outs on the ground. BOGGS: I popped up twice all season. But to me hitting the ball in the air means hitting a line drive, and I hit far more balls in the air. WILLIAMS: Why do you think [Carlton] Fisk hit so many home runs last year? Because he hit the ball in the air more often. MATTINGLY: I want to make more outs on the ground. I think I've got a better chance of getting a hit. WILLIAMS: You know what they would say about Don Mattingly. We'll give him the hit. How many doubles did you have? Triples? Homers? MATTINGLY: Forty-eight doubles, three triples, 35 homers. WILLIAMS: They weren't on the ground. That's where your production was, so why hit the ball on the ground?" 4. "MATTINGLY: Dave Winfield will hit a home run, I'll ask him what the pitch was, and he'll shake his head and say, "I don't know.""
  17. Sadly, Bo may be slower than Vlad now according to sprint speeds on baseball savant. Vlad is about an average speed guy.
  18. They are also taking this approach without a lot of real burners on the basepaths. It would be a lot easier to manufacture runs if they had some guys who you could count on to steal second frequently after walkin gor getting a single. Outside of Giminez they have none of that and even he is only 86th percentile. They just don't have players with elite skills that aren't defense. No speed guys, no power guys (or they have altered their approach so badly they lose the power).
  19. To be fair, I don't think Shatkins had all that much involvement in getting the Vlad deal over the finish line. It's got ownership written all over it.
  20. I wish there was a multiverse thing where the Vlad extension wasn't signed so we could see what he would have got in the open market. I have a hard time believing it would have been anywhere near what the Jays gave him. It will be interesting to see what Tucker commands.
  21. As of today, Cutch would be tied for the team lead in homeruns and only behind Springer, Straw and Heineman in OPS and OPS+ on this Jays team.
  22. Jordan Beck has more home runs in the last two days than any Jays hitter does all season.
  23. At the rate we are using our bull pen guys this won't be the last injury sadly. We really need some games that are blowouts so we can get some low leverage situations.
  24. I'm not looking forward to hearing about how good Carrasco is pitching when he shuts them down.
