  1. Seeing the news about Santandar considering short terms deals on the heals of the Hoffman signing makes me wonder if the Jays are getting up against their budget and allocated funds they were going to spend on Santandar on Hoff instead.
  2. It’s likely an issue for the Jays due to having to give up draft assets to sign him. If that turns out to be just one year that they have him that will hurt more. that being said, with how useless this front office is at drafting and developing they shouldn’t let that stop them.
  3. I wonder if how bad Springer looked in his age 34 season is impacting this?
  4. Where is the barf emote when you need it?
  5. This is not allowed in the CBA and I believe MLB has said they would penalize the team and void the contract if it was felt an agreement was made to circumvent the IFA limits.
  6. I would argue that last years team was done in by almost every inning in the early going being leverage in close games due to the lack of offense and good pitching and defense. There were very few laugher games. It caused way too much demand on the bullpen in the early season and they wore down early. Once the hitting came around our pen was atrocious due to the east overworking causing injuries and ineffectiveness.
  7. He was projected at 3M. He still has a Cy finalist season contributing to his case keep in mind.
  8. At least for LA, he might prefer snow over wildfires right now.
  9. Every team should be all in on Him. He’s a potentially elite pitcher who has to sign a low valued contract while also opening up new marketing opportunities. The real question is if they have a chance? Pros for Toronto: * direct flights to Japan * great facilities * great defenders * hard to say on this one but political climate may work in their favour for a foreign born player. * Yusei vouching for how much he loved the city and org. * perceived lack of attention in Toronto and Roku seems to want to be out of the limelight.
  10. Shi proving once again that he is a modern day Shakespeare. I love that analogy but hate that it is true about my favourite team.
  11. The let’s trade the Canadian guy to the Canadian team is a tired and lazy narrative in my opinion.
  12. Weren’t the Jays top 5 farm years pre Vlad and Bo debuts?
  13. AA left them with Vlad, Jansen, Romano, Mayza and the front office guys who fought the current guys tooth and nail to take Bo. The fact that up until last year there were still more AA draft picks/international signings playing meaningful time for the time than new regime picks is pretty telling. AA traded away a lot of the farm in 2013 and 2015 but he was also quick to build it back up again through good drafting and development. We are still waiting on those waves now ten years into the new guys.
  14. Here here, from the way things are looking payroll may decrease just due to no one worth it being willing to take money to join this dumpster fire.
  15. Tanner Scott is the guy you spend money on when your front office admits defeat on developing any kind of pitching including relief pitching. So yeah, he’s a candidate here.
  16. So part of the reason payroll is able to expand is due to the hire of Shapiro and his efforts on the ballpark and facilities renovations to generate additional revenue for the club. From the day he was hired it was made very clear he was a business hire over a baseball hire.
  17. Somehow we managed to grab Montoyo from the Rays. It’s like they target the non smart ones from the other orgs.
  18. Feel free to delete this after you see this @Brock Beauchamp but in my opinion it isn’t long threads that make the board uninviting to new users but interactions like in this thread that are filled with pointless bickering.
  19. Perhaps they saw something in scouting these players and helped them turn around?
  20. Didn’t he take over as they were hit with penalties for their behaviour in the international market?
  21. Paradinho was always a mirage. He made hay in the low minors off of offspeed offerings that younger players fall for. You get to AAA and players no longer fall prey to that.
  22. Maybe he doesn’t care to endear himself to the fans who don’t like him because he doesn’t speak their language well enough. Take whatever implication you want about those people.
  23. It wasn’t the fact Ohtani had him interpreting that led to the issues. It was that he trusted him with so many of his affairs and he had far too much access. Also, Ohtani speaks English well enough that he would have picked up on anything being translated incorrectly if paying attention at all.
  24. A) he can talk English but is more comfortable in his first language. He doesn’t want the wrong thing to be said due to it being his second language. I have no issues with that(and no one should). The dude certainly has connected with the fans despite it with both strong positive and negative reactions to him. If anything, he fits right into Toronto as an English second language guy. B). Take a look at the return Kyle Tucker got in trade. You are likely looking at similar in a Vlad trade. It’s not franchise altering returns coming back at this point.
  25. Good read. Thanks. Was he is the 90th percentile in exit velocity in 2022? Call me a cynic but I don’t have a lot of faith in the Jays coaching staff to get his bat back anywhere near 2022. It will be a very pleasant surprise if he does get back to that!
