  1. Somehow we managed to grab Montoyo from the Rays. It’s like they target the non smart ones from the other orgs.
  2. Feel free to delete this after you see this @Brock Beauchamp but in my opinion it isn’t long threads that make the board uninviting to new users but interactions like in this thread that are filled with pointless bickering.
  3. Perhaps they saw something in scouting these players and helped them turn around?
  4. Didn’t he take over as they were hit with penalties for their behaviour in the international market?
  5. Paradinho was always a mirage. He made hay in the low minors off of offspeed offerings that younger players fall for. You get to AAA and players no longer fall prey to that.
  6. Maybe he doesn’t care to endear himself to the fans who don’t like him because he doesn’t speak their language well enough. Take whatever implication you want about those people.
  7. It wasn’t the fact Ohtani had him interpreting that led to the issues. It was that he trusted him with so many of his affairs and he had far too much access. Also, Ohtani speaks English well enough that he would have picked up on anything being translated incorrectly if paying attention at all.
  8. A) he can talk English but is more comfortable in his first language. He doesn’t want the wrong thing to be said due to it being his second language. I have no issues with that(and no one should). The dude certainly has connected with the fans despite it with both strong positive and negative reactions to him. If anything, he fits right into Toronto as an English second language guy. B). Take a look at the return Kyle Tucker got in trade. You are likely looking at similar in a Vlad trade. It’s not franchise altering returns coming back at this point.
  9. Good read. Thanks. Was he is the 90th percentile in exit velocity in 2022? Call me a cynic but I don’t have a lot of faith in the Jays coaching staff to get his bat back anywhere near 2022. It will be a very pleasant surprise if he does get back to that!
  10. I have already decided I will be cheering for a new team (likely the Reds) if the Jays sign this douche canoe.
  11. This looks great and like it will be a very quality change!
  12. I'm not defending it as a good strategy, just that it is one has has committed to.
  13. He committed to defense pretty hard.
  14. Are you happy with a trade that brings back the equivalent of Isaac Parades, Hayden Wesniski and Cam Smith? I'm not sure I would be but that's about the value vlad would bring back.
  15. who have they let walk that would have been a good extension other than maybe Teo? you have to develop players to be able to extend them and that is a glaring weakness of this front office.
  16. So is this them or the first base coach at fault? Are there others low on this particular metric?
  17. hard to trade for impact talent when the cupboard is pretty bare.
  18. This was done with some other players (and a different company) I want to say about ten years ago. Heaney was the one I was thinking of and last years salary would have put their ten percent over what they paid for it. (at least when not converting to todays dollars) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/05/list-mlb-players-agreed-fantex-deals.html
  19. The jays wasted them with poor organizational philosophy, coaching and execution. One or two players being inconsistent or having down years and I will blame it on the players. When it is as many players as the Jays have had show these declines and inconsistencies I'm blaming the org.
  20. Here's the thing, the Guardians aren't going to turn around and spend the ~20 million a year in savings on something else. That's why they hate the trade. The jays would have spent that money and it is debatable if that's the best way to spend it. I'm not sure I trust this front office/coaching staff to unlock extra potential in his bat.
  21. The deferrals only really help the team in the early years as well. For instance, starting in year 3 for Ohtani the Dodgers need to pay the present day value into an escrow to ensure they have the money to pay him at the deferral date.
  22. This is just it...you start messing with taxes and the individual states might put up enough of a fuss to make the anti-trust exemption get looked at again.
  23. People are talking about Wheeler as a Hall guy? That's crazy.
  24. CC also wore pinstripes which I gaurantee you helps with getting votes.
  25. If it is with heavy money deferred than that is a different story but many in the industry are talking like he is getting 700-800 million without deferrals which is ludicrous to me. For what it is worth, Fangraph's WAR also has Soto a step behind when looking at equivalent aged seasons. I avoided comparisons of 19, 20, 21 due to Pujols debuting at 21 and Soto having a short season for his age 21 season. Pujols arguably had an 80 grade hit tool and 65-70 power. Soto is arguably a 60-70 hit tool with less power. He does have an 80 grade eye mind you.
