  1. They need to start putting on him little kid style. Montessori coat flip style!
  2. And just like that, casual baseball fans across the globe find out these Jays are for real!
  3. Them treating a guy with a 900 OPS against righties as a weak side platoon bat is baffling...especially given his splits are a 700 OPS versus lefties. I'm assuming there is more to this than I can get from BRef like maybe it is certain kinds of Righties they had him face in the regular season and they haven't matched up that way in the postseason.
  4. I was thinking about this today. With their 4 game sweep of the brewers where hardly any relievers were used they are going to have some serious rust to work through. I feel like there will be lots of walks to be had. Treinen, Banda and Sasaki are the only three who pitched in the LCS Dreyer and Kershaw last pitched on Oct. 8 Sheehan last pitched on Oct. 9 One thing I am very confident about is that they will not be getting through this series only using three relievers.
  5. The reason France is on the roster I would guess is all the lefties the Dodgers have in their pen. It's a shame they don't have a better lefty mashing option than France. Wrobleski Kershaw Dreyer Banda and it wouldn't surprise me if they find a way to get Vesia back on the roster if his issue is resolved.
  6. Anybody know if the rules would allow the 2B and SS to switch sides depending on batter? I'm guessing not, but where Gime can play both sides it would be slick to see him on the strong side of the hitter and Bo on the weak side.
  7. Really, how is a 1B only guy going to help in that situation?
  8. I would love to see Olerud, but figured they would want a pitcher for one. So many options we'll just have to save some for next year ;)
  9. Who do we think are throwing out first pitches? Carter is obvious but does he get game 1 or save him for a potential game 6? Borders and Molitor as two others as the World Series MVPs? Many options for the last one: Devo, Henke, Olerud, Sprague, Guzman, Ward, Gruber among them My guess: Game 1 - Carter 2 - Borders 6 - Molitor 7 - Guzman or Ward Edit: I forgot Cito...he's definitely throwing one of them
  10. It's the question of do you take the clear massive downgrade in D at SS or the risk of him at 2B for the first time? I'd be willing to take the risk.
  11. No idea what is going on but it must be significant to leave during the World Series. Whatever it is, my thoughts are with him and his family.
  12. Given the absolutely awful state of second base across the league outside of a few (Jazz, Marte, Turang) one would have to believe there is some money to be made as a great hitting 2B as well.
  13. Sure for the stars with their mega contracts, but the late bloomers and non stars have suffered for it. Look at how many guys can't find spots due to how cheap Pre-arb and arb guys are in comparison. For what it is worth, players are taking home a smaller proportion of revenue now than what was offered then. It also would have forced the Pirates, A's and others to spend more money, which I think everyone can agree would be good for baseball.
  14. I still can't believe I get to watch the Jays play in the Freaking World Series tonight!
  15. Varsho has a higher OBP against lefties than he does righties this year. SSS alert though.
  16. Maybe Restricted is the wrong term. It was just a right of first refusal.
  17. Looking into the owners first proposal before the strike there were some concessions the owners were offering that could have been very good for baseball players. One of them was starting free agency after 4 years of service time. The Salary floor/cap would have included been a 50/50 split of all revenues between owners and players. It was 56% going to players back then. It was 47% in 2024. Arbitration eliminated. restricted free agency (current team could match any deal for FAs with 4-5 years of service time) In hindsight, the players may have made a massive mistake not taking that deal.
  18. I would have thought that documentary could have been pretty short: 1. Jeff Loria 1b. Bud Selig 2. Everyone responsible for the '94 strike (See 1b, Donald Fehr)
  19. Keep in mind, a portion of the gate revenue goes directly to the players. I imagine the MLB takes a cut too. Edit: So I found an article about this. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/who-gets-what-from-postseason-ticket-revenue/ To Sum it up: Gate revenue is the only revenue that is shared so concessions, merch and other non ticket revenue stays with the host team. (This extra revenue could be significant given how much they sell balls hit for singles and fouls for and the price of concessions) The League takes 15% right off the top. The remainder is split as follows: 50% of wild card to Players pool 60% of first three games of DS to Players Pool (only first three to discourage making the series go longer for a bigger pool) 60% of first four game of CS and World Series to Players Pool All remaining gate revenue is split between the two teams equally The player pool is split as follows: World Series Winner: 36% World Series Loser: 24% Two Championship Series Losers: 24% split between them Four Division Series Losers: 13% split between them Wild Card Losers: 3% split between them
  20. When I say resources here, I don’t just mean money. It’s time and people. Their best advanced scouts would have attended far more Brewers, reds and Phillies games than Jays games. Sure, they would be pouring over video now but I am not sure that hits the same.
  21. The dodgers have also strongly suspected they would have to face the Brewers at some point from fairly early in the season and would have been scouting them. I bet they didn't consider the Jays much as a prospective opponent and spent far less resources on them then they would other teams.
  22. I've said this for a while. I think Shapiro has his eyes on the job of commisioner. Manfred is retiring in 2029 so I would guess Shapiro stays in Toronto until maybe a year or two prior to that (if he feels like he needs some exposure to the league offices before the opening). Edit: Further to this, the Jays are rumoured to get the 2028 all star game. That could be a showcase to the league of all the good Shapiro has done in Toronto with turning the aging Roger's Centre back into a very impressive facility. Even just hearing all the National media going on about the clubhouse as they saw the celebrations after game 7 shows how well he has done with the transformation.
