They want young, controllable pitchers from what I heard today. Jays hang up if they ask for Trey. Maybe they would be willing to build something around Ricky T&. Bowden but i doubt Ricky has value high enough to be the centrepiece in such a deal.

It sounds like they want to tweak things with Cease a bit too. Schneider mentions they asked him about evolving his fastball grip and talked about working on a change up with him to make it better and a pitch he uses.

There is a press conference on mlb.com right now with John Schneider. I didn't hear the start, but some tidbits from what I have heard. When asked if Ponce would be a starter "100% a starter" When asked about assistant hitting coach he said they have found a new one and it should be announced soon. Donnie's role is also being backfilled in a couple of ways. He mentioned there are 2 people coming in from other organizations and 1 internal promotion. He mentioned that Mattingly left to be closer to his family and work with his son.

Apparently Dombrowski said the Phils expect to have Donny Baseball as their bench coach next year. So Mattingly may have left to go work with his son.

Part of me wonders if we will see Diaz having got the second year salary low or with a big signing bonus so he gets paid even if there is a work stoppage.

It counts for luxury tax even if they are in the minors. That was an erroneous report that Straw’s salary wouldn’t count.

They didn’t option him. They DFA’d him and eventually outrighted him when he wasn’t claimed. Since he hadn’t been outrighted before and has so little service time he cannot elect free agency.

It would be a 22 million dollar hit after a trade as the luxury tax numbers are recalculated when traded to include only the remainder of the the contract.

Agree with this. To a fault the Jays players talked about how important Straw was in the clubhouse too.

I don’t think it is guesswork on his part. I would be more inclined to believe the Jays have a narrative they want out there and use the company guys to put it out there.

Maybe he will be a debut sometime mid season guy. They are bound to need to fill a rotation spot at some point.

Teams that have the option to will most definitely move revenue away from the major league team. The Jays likely give Rogers a sweet tv deal (but Canadian viewers aren’t worth as much advertising revenue as American apparently) but also deal in Canadian dollars for much of their revenue.

For what it is worth, the teams at the bottom of that last image I posted are a far bigger problem than the ones at the top.
