  1. One also has to wonder how much of the increase in injuries has to to do with the increase of these travel ball teams that are sometimes going year round. Pitchers throw so many bullets by the time they are drafted now without ever really resting their arms.
  2. Did we? They have targeted pitchers who they believe can stay healthy in Gausman, Berrios and Bassitt. Santander was injured or ineffective the bulk of the year. Bo missed a month and Springer, Vlad and Kirk all had IL stints. Scherzer missed extended time. Berrios and Bassitt missed some time. Bowden too although that could have been a Avoid the minors injury. They lost Sandlin and Yimi for the bulk of the season. I don't know that I would consider that fantastic luck?
  3. The Jays are going to be tied to nearly every free agent this year regardless of whether or not they actually are. Agents know the Jays are going to spend and will be using that to try to gain leverage with other teams.
  4. Did Longenhagen just get bored halfway through and decide to mail in 4 teams and completely forget about 3?
  5. Quoting myself I know, But I also wanted to add all the hype about the facilities at Roger's Centre that is going to help attract free agents is directly attributable to Shapiro as well. That's a big part of what he was brought in to do and by all accounts he knocked it out of the park.
  6. There is something to be said about Shapiro making the business decisions that led to him getting Rogers to approve higher budgets. That's quite firmly a win on his part.
  7. Vlad and arguably Bo (reports that holdover scouts had to fight the new regime to draft him) are very much products of the previous regime.
  8. All reports were that Straw was a huge part of the clubhouse culture. I'm not sure I mess with that to go with Clase instead.
  9. Michael Jordan was left off a high school team altogether.
  10. Apparently Ed built Rogers now and not his father and grandfather?
  11. Barger is from a highly religious missionary family. Kinda fits the bill.
  12. Seriously, Vlad Jr’s biggest role model is his dad, who has something like 8 with 5 different women. That example has already been set.
  13. I still think to this day that the turnaround in 2015 was less having Tulo and Price there and more NOT having Reyes butchering SS anymore.
  14. Apparently managing your team to a 500 record through the first 6 months of the season and then beating up on the rays, twins, white sox, royals and a struggling Tigers makes you manager of the year now. I guess the award should be renamed Manager of September.
  15. This reminds me of the time a team at my work won team of the year for fixing so many bugs in their product. I was like “but they were the reason it was so buggy in the first place!”
  16. So Bryce Harper?
  17. I am still waiting for the first time I hear a team come out and say “we are trading our star player for the first decent offer we get”. Rather than the overwhelming offer stance. Seriously, who wants to just be whelmed?
  18. This is where an Imai or Murakami signing in the AL could get interesting. One would have to believe Trey is the early favourite for ROTY but one of those guys could change the situation quickly.
  19. We all seem to agree that the clubhouse culture was amazing and had at least something to do with their success this year. From all reports, Kilometres Straw was a massive part of that culture and was a real leader in the clubhouse. I think he is a guy they keep around.
  20. It still hurts. Can we just forget it happened and move on?
  21. Cito was dealing with racism in baseball and didn’t really get enough credit for his success in Toronto nor opportunities elsewhere (yes in part due to the fact he stopped interviewing as he felt he was the token interviewee)
  22. Mattingly undoubtedly has helped Vlad with his defense at first base and may have contributed to the good clubhouse culture, but I firmly believe going away from his offensive philosophies this year and having each player play to their strengths was a big part of unlocking this team and going on this run. I personally don't feel like this is a big loss and wouldn't be surprised at all if the Jays asked him to leave and let him frame it as walking away.
  23. I would not be the least bit surprised to see Triston McKenzie singed by the Jays as a reclamation project.
  24. If the Pirates trade Skenes rather than spend to build around him they should just fold the franchise or force the owner out.
