  1. I still can't believe I get to watch the Jays play in the Freaking World Series tonight!
  2. Varsho has a higher OBP against lefties than he does righties this year. SSS alert though.
  3. Maybe Restricted is the wrong term. It was just a right of first refusal.
  4. Looking into the owners first proposal before the strike there were some concessions the owners were offering that could have been very good for baseball players. One of them was starting free agency after 4 years of service time. The Salary floor/cap would have included been a 50/50 split of all revenues between owners and players. It was 56% going to players back then. It was 47% in 2024. Arbitration eliminated. restricted free agency (current team could match any deal for FAs with 4-5 years of service time) In hindsight, the players may have made a massive mistake not taking that deal.
  5. I would have thought that documentary could have been pretty short: 1. Jeff Loria 1b. Bud Selig 2. Everyone responsible for the '94 strike (See 1b, Donald Fehr)
  6. Keep in mind, a portion of the gate revenue goes directly to the players. I imagine the MLB takes a cut too. Edit: So I found an article about this. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/who-gets-what-from-postseason-ticket-revenue/ To Sum it up: Gate revenue is the only revenue that is shared so concessions, merch and other non ticket revenue stays with the host team. (This extra revenue could be significant given how much they sell balls hit for singles and fouls for and the price of concessions) The League takes 15% right off the top. The remainder is split as follows: 50% of wild card to Players pool 60% of first three games of DS to Players Pool (only first three to discourage making the series go longer for a bigger pool) 60% of first four game of CS and World Series to Players Pool All remaining gate revenue is split between the two teams equally The player pool is split as follows: World Series Winner: 36% World Series Loser: 24% Two Championship Series Losers: 24% split between them Four Division Series Losers: 13% split between them Wild Card Losers: 3% split between them
  7. When I say resources here, I don’t just mean money. It’s time and people. Their best advanced scouts would have attended far more Brewers, reds and Phillies games than Jays games. Sure, they would be pouring over video now but I am not sure that hits the same.
  8. The dodgers have also strongly suspected they would have to face the Brewers at some point from fairly early in the season and would have been scouting them. I bet they didn't consider the Jays much as a prospective opponent and spent far less resources on them then they would other teams.
  9. I've said this for a while. I think Shapiro has his eyes on the job of commisioner. Manfred is retiring in 2029 so I would guess Shapiro stays in Toronto until maybe a year or two prior to that (if he feels like he needs some exposure to the league offices before the opening). Edit: Further to this, the Jays are rumoured to get the 2028 all star game. That could be a showcase to the league of all the good Shapiro has done in Toronto with turning the aging Roger's Centre back into a very impressive facility. Even just hearing all the National media going on about the clubhouse as they saw the celebrations after game 7 shows how well he has done with the transformation.
  10. I love our broadcast for Dan and Buck, but I do wish Sportnet would use this camera angle and the one directly across from the batter and close up more often. They are great views of hits and homers.
  11. It's crazy how much adding Bo back into the lineup lengthens it.
  12. The American media I've been listening to is loving Ernie Clement right now too. The guys from Baseball Today on Jomboy have been singing his praises for a while with Plouffe calling him his new favourite player.
  13. Arguably, it probably should have been Springer given the game winning homer. Their numbers weren't that far off.
  14. Good stuff, for what it is worth, I'd like to call out @sliderguy35for a number of very high quality posts he made in these parts this year. His content was always excellent.
  15. This! When I was leaving the stadium after the opening day blowout, there is no way I thought the season would have a game 7 to decide if they go to the World Series or not. I'm loving this!
  16. Given how bad Seattle has looked against non Little spin I am surprised we didn't see more of Bassitt against them.
  17. What if I told you he was better this season on no rest than he was on 2 days of rest? SSS alert but these are the numbers.
  18. To be fair, they stuck with Trey much longer than they would have in the very recent past.
  19. Jose Berrios opting out would be a crazy win for the Jays. I don’t see it happening.
  20. Potentially having gold glovers at every position up the middle will certainly make Toronto attractive for pitchers I would think.
  21. With how bad Seattle has looked against spin they might have plans for Bassitt in a future game too.
  22. I wonder if they were testing him hoping he could be the Tony Taters replacement.
