    Not with three against the Rays and another three against the Yankees all on the road. Go 5-4 in those nine, you got me believing. Otherwise, lights out.

    Had a good thing with Hoffman, Rogers and Varland, but apparently not good enough for a lot of people here. Wouldn't have mattered today anyway, this game was lost by Valenzuela and the umpire in the first inning. Not only did that lone run stand for so long, they probably took another inning of work away from Scherzer and forced us into this disgusting situation. Now for the Yankees and Rays to finish us off.

    Well at least we got rid of Hoffman eh? Thank goodness we don't have him as an option anymore😒

    It doesn't really get real until we get through those games with the Yankees and Tampa. An 85% of not making the playoffs is still quite terrible. If we get through those nine games still reasonably within reach, then it starts to get real. As it stands right now, those series' could easily knock us right out. It's like how a no-hitter doesn't really start to get real until you get through seven, right now we're through six. Heart of the order coming up.

    Somebody said a while back they he would have to be well ahead of schedule, I think it was one of Atkins or Shapiro. Certainly made it sound unlikely. Nobody has indicated the possibility of it happening. But the dude has been throwing footballs around to NFL players and throwing baseballs against a wall. This is mostly just me holding onto a shred of hope.

    What's so crazy about this play is that everybody screwed up. The scorekeeper screwed up. Boston's baserunners screwed up. The Blue Jays' fielders screwed up. The umpire screwed up. A total f*** up all the way around. Has that ever happened on one play?

    This kind of play is his wet dream.

    Just by virtue of the fact that the umpire threw another ball onto the field and then made a waving motion before everybody was in foul ground suggests that he considered the play over. The fact of the matter is nobody on the field was thinking about the tag at third. Not the players, not the umpires. Nobody. So technically the Blue Jays are correct, but realistically none of our players are even looking at the umpire. Had the umpire made no motion at all it still would have resulted in the Blue Jays running off the field.

    Yes, I admit I had forgotten that rule myself, I remember hearing about it a long time ago but it totally slipped my mind. It didn't end up mattering because the Blue Jays never appealed anyhow. It does seem like the whole delay was really about the umpire trying to cover his ass if he did in fact indicate that the run didn't count but what's the point? If you screwed up, you screwed up. Make a ruling and stand by it.

    The scoreboard stuff is irrelevant because that's on the players if they trusted the scoreboard. We see appeal plays all the time and we see tag plays all the time and we know what it means if a guy crosses home before the 3rd out is made. All the baseball stuff was straightforward, I guess it was just a weird combination that confused people but if you know your baseball it was pretty apparent pretty quickly what happened and those umpires should know their baseball.

    I think that's it. It really was simple baseball stuff that we see all the time, it's just for some reason people became confused by it. That's why my main point of contention is that it shouldn't have been a 20-minute delay. The baseball side of it was straightforward.

    I have to believe the umpires knew how many outs there are because they are the umpires, and the Blue Jays knew well enough to get the appeal at first. Some Red Sox players, specifically the runners, may not have known but they acknowledged after the game that that's on them.

    It did seem like the umpires were confused as well for some reason. It was pretty obvious that the runner had crossed the plate first, anybody who knows what's going on should have been looking out for that. I don't know what motion the home plate umpire made, I didn't see a replay that showed any motion, but you also can't assume based on no motion at all. But it also didn't seem like any Blue Jays player was in any way aware of the situation so it seemed like they were all running off the field anyhow. I don't think any of them were even looking to the umpire. Either way there is no reason for that kind of delay. They ran off the field and didn't appeal, whatever the umpire did or didn't do they would have established that in a matter of seconds and made a decision on that.

    Because the right base to ensure the run didn't score was third base. The runner at 3rd scored as a result of going to the wrong base. You have to appeal, why were they throwing to first base to begin with? Because they are appealing. Everybody understands the appeal play. If you understand why they were throwing to first to get the third out you should likewise understand why they should have been throwing to third instead.

    Still don't really understand what the confusion was that led to that kind of delay. The Blue Jays threw to the wrong base and the guy scored before the appeal at first and wasn't himself appealed. What's the confusion? What is Schneider talking about regarding them not having a chance to appeal the guy at third? Once Vlad stepped on the bag at first there was no chance to appeal anymore, the inning was over. Even if they tried to appeal at third there's nothing to appeal. There's no fourth out in baseball. Ridiculous that people were confused and ridiculous that the delay was that long. This was pretty simple baseball.

    It's because they don't give a f*** about him anymore so if anybody's arm is going to fall off it's going to be him.
