  1. Ramirez provides positive value in all aspects of baseball (power, on-base, defence, baserunning). He would have to lose skills everywhere simultaneously like Jason Heyward to truly lose his value. Even then, the AAV is so reasonable, they would probably break even. He would literally have to turn into Kendrys Morales (and relatively soon) to lose on this deal. Cleveland absolutely cleaned up here.
  2. You forgot Candy Maldonado and Jose Canseco. Casual fan.
  3. The fact that some the best run orgs in baseball are all in on Freeman gives us a clue as to how highly he's regarded.
  4. Gurriel has played extensively at SS, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't implode from a look at 3B which is a much less demanding position. His problem was that he had godawful range and the yips on throws from 2nd, both of which you can hide at 3rd. He hasn't had any throwing issues in the outfield and the coaching staff obviously trusts him to play first base, which involves a lot of short throws on the infield. I don't think he would have any issues gunning it from the hole.
  5. Story is elite at SS. I would move Bichette for either him or Correa.
  6. Seager is made of glass but is an MVP calibre talent. If Boras is smart he'll sacrifice AAV for a long-term deal with opt-outs in the middle.
  7. There really are layers to this post. The spelling of Lourdes' last name. The strategic placement of extra spaces. Casually slotting in Scherzer between Ryu and Berrios. This work will be studied and analyzed for years to come. Bravo.
  8. Lol
  9. I don't know enough about Moreno's defense. Assuming that he projects as a true catcher, I say keep him there until he kicks down the door from AAA. He has like a month's worth of ABs above A ball. Trade McGuire for peanuts now and go with Jansen/Kirk until Moreno forces our hand.
  10. I'm gonna disagree with you on his routes. I've seen him take complete semicircles to balls on several occasions. I've always liked him as a 3B. I know he had the yips with soft tosses, but I assume he wouldn't have a problem gunning it from the hole.
  11. I agree with you on unrealistic expectations. Fans act like if you tank hard enough and never make a bad trade, you're guaranteed a formula to have a dynasty. True dynasties happen once every few decades (90s Yankees, 70s Athletics, Big Red Machine, etc.), and are based mostly on extreme luck, money, and competence--probably in that order. Making moves to guarantee a good team every single year without sacrificing the future is an incredible balancing act. If the Cubs were any more conservative, they probably wouldn't have won a single World Series during their run. On the other hand, building a 90 win team every year is also a smart way to go, but then you run the risk of becoming the 2000s Athletics. Hopefully Shapiro and Atkins are putting careful thought into balancing short and long term goals simultaneously. This offseason will give us a lot of clues into their thought process.
  12. We should pursue Berrios because he's a good pitcher. The prospects we lost are a sunk cost and should have no bearing on the decision making.
  13. It's not like they're leaning on TJ Zeuch out there, Baz is an elite talent. It's okay to put rookies in the spotlight if they have elite talent. David Price was pitching meaningful innings for the Rays in the World Series basically straight out of college and it worked.
  14. Verlander likely cheated with sticky stuff. Knowing Houston, they probably helped him a lot.
  15. Donaldson would strangle Montoyo after about a week.
  16. So after like 5 career MLB starts we've decided that Pearson can't start?
  17. You guys are really nailing Gibby without full context. He was literally evaluating core pieces of team at the major league level that year. Remember when Pillar started out in LF because we didn't know he was a good fielder yet? Miguel Castro was our closer out of A ball. Smoak was still considered a failed prospect at the time. We were still giving major innings to the corpse of Jeff Francis and Bo Schulz. Once Anthopoulos traded for a decent bullpen, Gibby really managed the team well.
  18. I haven't seen a ton of Kirk behind the plate, but it's clear to me that he's still developing and a notch below Jansen and the masturbator defensively. If the Jays were rebuilding, or if his bat wasn't so MLB-ready, Kirk would probably be catching every day in AAA this season. I also don't think it's a coincidence that the one guy Kirk calls a good game with (Ray) has the simplest pitch repertoire. Basically: "throw the ball as hard as you can down the middle to get ahead, then wipeout slider for the K". If he had a little more seasoning behind the plate to catch really complicated guys like Ryu and Berrios, or if guys like Springer didn't need the DH slot, he would've played a lot more. It's also clear that Charlie plays favourites (Espinal, Dolis, McGuire), and Kirk isn't one of them. Pinch hitting Kirk for a pinch bunter in a leverage AB really showed what Charlie thinks of Kirk. I think next season, Kirk and Jansen develop into a very productive C/DH defense/offense combo.
  19. Buck is old school in every single way lol
  20. We don't have enough leverage arms to do that. Push Cimber as long as he'll go then Romano as long as he'll go. After that we're in big trouble.
  21. Guys that wild pitch was absolutely wicked.
  22. Tough luck for Mayza. Basically one solid swing that inning.
