  1. That HBP would've hit Rizzo in the cheek.
  2. Semien hitting the ball to right with a runner on 2nd is old school situational hitting.
  3. That's not even babip that's just garbage fundamentals.
  4. I chose 2018-2020 because it was the time period Semien played a full time SS and after his true talent defense seemed to shift for the better. I'm making the assumption he's not the same horrible defender from 2015. Including raw 2021 defensive metrics to compare Semien to Bichette as a SS is completely wrong. Semien played 2B this year. That's like saying Gurriel is a better outfielder than Springer because you counted all of his DH games. Ignoring Semien completely, Bichette rates in the bottom tier of SS defenders over his career. Over that time, his performance on the field has matched the metrics (in my opinion). He looks like he's improving, we shall see what his defensive ceiling is.
  5. I didn't watch him play SS in Oakland so I can only go by the metrics. His defensive value from 2018 to 2020 is third best of all SS in baseball, behind only Simmons and Lindor. So yeah, he's an elite defender by the numbers.
  6. Semien is too much of a professional to say anything, but it must be hard for a gold glove calibre SS to watch an inferior fielder play your position. Moving Semien to 2B as a rental made perfect sense. But if the Jays are serious about keeping him long term, they'll need to offer him the SS spot.
  7. Grichuk and harmless popups, name a more iconic duo.
  8. Romano carved him up like a Sunday roast.
  9. Stick with Cimber if he's still rolling, then Romano for the 9th. Straight to Romano if the pitch count goes up. Nobody else needs to pitch in this game, even if they take a big lead.
  10. Dude just threw a pickoff to home plate lol
  11. Montages comparing 1950s gold medal gymnasts versus modern day https://i.imgur.com/TR800XI.mp4 https://i.imgur.com/wmlTA22.mp4 James Corbett, lineal heavyweight champion of the world defending his title in 1894 https://gfycat.com/peskyresponsibleamericanratsnake Future lineal heavyweight champion Mike Tyson as a 15 year old child in the 1980s https://gfycat.com/jubilanthandmadeindianpalmsquirrel Kareem Abdul Jabbar at the 1977 Slam Dunk Contest. Kareem was considered the greatest basketball player of all time before Michael Jordan. His dominance led to a racially-motivated rule change to ban slam dunks. googled for recent slam dunk contest gifs. I don't even know who this is. https://i.makeagif.com/media/2-14-2016/KNp0Tp.gif If you prefer numbers I can show you 100m dash stats from 1900 to 2000. If you prefer more skill based sports I can show you golf drive distances since the 1980s. I honestly can't think of a single sport including chess and video games where modern players wouldn't dominate players from 100 years ago.
  12. Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time. Grichuk is better than Ruth if you don't account for context and era. Both of those things are true.
  13. EASILY the first option. Soto's career low OBP is .400. His career OBP is .430. This includes ABs as a teenager. He hit 34 HR in his only full season before this year. Soto's power isn't going to peak at age 20.
  14. If you dropped a random college athlete in the 1900 Olympics, he'd be setting world records. A modern scrub like Grichuk would probably hit 65 homers against old timey shitballers.
  15. No not even close, because if you don't account for era, we inevitably conclude that Randall Grichuk is a better hitter than Babe Ruth, and that doesn't help anybody. Soto is good enough to start having the conversation about him amongst the all time greats though. At 22, that's insane.
  16. Two Jays get injured in the same inning, and neither one was Merryweather or Pearson. Spooky.
  17. Tiny sample size but Richards has gotten destroyed late in jams this season.
  18. Charlie is afraid of confrontation. He sent a bat boy to get back his data sheet.
  19. If the Jays pitchers get squeezed in the next inning we know the fix is in.
  20. Rays bringing in the next day starter in the 7th is the most Rays thing ever.
  21. Is it stealing? Maybe. Unsportsmanlike? Probably. One thing I do know, the Jays and every team that does this are dumb f***s for printing out such sensitive information.
  22. I hate being the negative guy here but Bo is one of the worst shortstops in baseball. He's made some good plays but he's still very, very bad by traditional and advanced evaluations.
  23. Ump's ass is in the jackpot for a Sox-Yankees wildcard.
