  1. Remember Rich Garces? He's that guy.
  2. Kirk getting DH ABs on back to back days. Tapia must be hurt.
  3. Guerrero getting tunnel vision and completing the play after getting called off is understandable. Arguing that he was right once the play is over is a low IQ move.
  4. Teoscar's been getting throwing tips from Rocket Ramiel I see.
  5. Shortstop makes that call.
  6. Trading your all star calibre starting catchers midseason in a pennant race is not a smart idea at all. And we don't have anywhere near the hitting depth to trade away Kirk's DH ABs. You don't trade an MLB ready top 10 prospect unless you get back a true ace. We're one or two bad breaks away from giving Collins and Tiedman regular ABs. We lost our fifth best starter, it's not time to panic. Use lower level prospects to shore up the bullpen, rotation, and an outfielder that can hit better than Tapia.
  7. I admit I don't know the detailed physical status of Kirk, but this Tapia thing isn't just about resting Springer, it's something else. Kirk has also been benched on multiple occasions for guys like Collins, not just resting the starters. He was also benched quite a bit last year as well, including getting pinch hit for by Danny Valera. I get that he's a big fat guy, but if a 23 year old kid can't DH on back to back days that's borderline disabled. Benjie Molina played catcher into his late 30s. Tapia DHing against a LHP was the clearest sign I could find that they're intentionally finding him ABs. All the guys they were supposedly resting ended up playing half the game anyways. The front office gets tunnel vision on profiles that they like (Morales, Grichuk, Tapia). I'm sure the FO will pat themselves on the back when Tapia reaches his .690 OPS ceiling but that still really sucks.
  8. Kirk deserves more PAs regardless of his hot streak. Kirk has proven hitting talent which is reflected in his professional stats, scouting tools, and preseason projections. All of this information was available prior to a handful of April appearances, where Tapia and his .050 ISO was consistently given more PAs. Obviously the front office has a very different valuation method for Kirk and Tapia, but quite frankly they're wrong.
  9. The hit tool is the single most important predictor of reaching the major leagues.
  10. I think you're getting a little confused with the years.
  11. Just personally I don't mind being more aggressive with Zulueta. He has years of professional experience in Cuba and honestly his health is a ticking time bomb anyways. I say keep pushing him up the system until he proves he can't handle it. Also talk to coaches about his makeup to see how he would handle the pressure of a pennant race, which admittedly would be tremendous. People like David Price could handle it but not everyone can.
  12. I mean just watching the games you can see that Charlie's managing the position players like it's a spring training split squad game and the relievers like it's Game 7 of the World Series. Everything in the article is just front office doublespeak.
  13. Those guys you named are good slashers and have put up .200 ISO at the big league level Groshans is below .100 ISO. That's like Tapia level. Every once in a while a slap hitter will have a career BABIP year but it's not sustainable in the long term. You would need a hit tool like Wade Boggs.
  14. If he doesn't get his ISO up by the second half I would be concerned. It's very difficult to maintain your walk rates in the majors if you're a slap hitter.
  15. He's like a modern day Troy Tulowitzki.
  16. Madden isn't used to a bases-loaded walk unless it's intentional.
  17. Great approach by Tapia. Slap it on the ground with a 35 mph EV. Charlie is a genius.
  18. Jays led MLB in total runs, wRC+ against LHP, wRC+ against RHP. The team that year was just an absolute veiny on-base juggernaut. Small ball and roster construction can help once you get to playoffs, but a team that gives Tapia 600 PA doesn't even get there.
  19. MLB suspended John Rocker for like a month for insulting gay people and foreigners. This was over 20 years ago, well before the social justice movement. In the modern social climate if Manfred honestly thought Donaldson said something racist, he would be banned for life without question.
  20. Lineup construction is overrated if your guys can actually hit. The 2015 lineup absolutely murdered RHP and their best lefty bats were like Ben Revere and Ryan Goins.
  21. Tapia has more PA than Kirk this season. This is with Jansen being hurt almost all year.
  22. Donaldson was mocking Anderson for putting himself on Jackie Robinson's level. I don't see how you can use Jackie Robinson's blackness as a criticism of what Donaldson said. Unless you think Anderson should be insulted by being compared to Jackie, Donaldson is clearly showing respect to Robinson here. With the information we have the only person who has disrespected Robinson, the first black MLB player, is Tim Anderson.
