This isn't really true. There are plenty of everyday people who mail it in on a daily basis and still get paid. His poor performance this year will cost him money next year (just like it should in most professions).
The key is to join a union....the majority of them mail it in and get raised despite their poor performance!
How much does Hutch hate life right now? Opening day starter for the best team in the AL - and there's a 0% chance he's ever on the playoff roster. That's gotta suck man.
If the Jays win the WS - does Hutch "feel" like a champion?
Because that happened once? I think the last time something like this happened was in like 1983. It would be a gross overreaction to change the format based on this year.
Exactly.
Another factor is the ALDS is only a 5 game series. An inferior team is more likely to get lucky and win in a 5 game series than they are in a 7 game series. I'll take the WC team without their ace until Game 3 in the ALDS everyday of the week.
Technically, this is true. However, the big factor you're missing is 1st in the AL plays the winner of the wild card, instead of playing Texas. I think that's a HUGE difference.
Keep in mind that at the beginning of his tenure, AA had a limited budget to work with, which may explain why he elected to take on players with character flaws - as there was perceived value there. There's obviously also a chance he undervalued strong leadership and team chemistry and has adjusted accordingly.
There is no answer to this people; however, IMO, talent wins and winning creates good chemistry.
The view from TV is better than any seat in the house if you want to "watch" the game. It's all about the atmosphere when you go to the game and I can guarantee you won't be disappointed for Game 1 of the ALDS. Don't overthink this one man...
Um - you get better views on TV than basically any seat in the house. I was Section 114 Row 2 last night and almost every pitch looks like a strike from there...
I guess you're there for the party - but if I'm sitting 500 level, I'm doing so solely for the atmosphere (view is awful). If you're in a hotel room, the view is awful and you're likely watching the game on TV a lot.......do you even get the atmosphere through the glass????
On the flip side - I don't think Cola racks up the golden sombrero last night either. Very surprised Gibby didn't pinch hit Cola after Smoak struck out 3 times and comes up with a runner on 3rd with 1 out.
Game 1, Game 2, off day, Game 3, Game 4, off day, Game 5 - can't you go Price on 3 days rest Game 4 and Stro on 4 days rest Game 5?...perhaps I have that schedule wrong...
