  1. Goins wRC+ of 84 would have been 10th in the majors for qualified shortstops. 18th in the majors for qualified 2nd basemen. You add in his defense and he basically was the definition of an average middle infielder this year...
  2. Couple of factors: 1. Pitching in the playoffs is significantly better than it is in the regular season. 2. He saw lefties almost exclusively. 3. Nerves/inexperience - which is natural. It's so sad to see people jump back to the "Goins can't hit" stuff - cut the man some slack. He's worked his tail off all season, made some adjustments and showed tangible improvement as the season wore on. Can't you just appreciate that and cheer for the guy? I'm not sold that Goins is a full time major league starter either, but he played remarkable down the stretch for this team when the pair of Glass Joes (Tulo & Travis) hit the DL. Who actually enjoys being the "I told you so" guy?
  3. Should give Baez an opportunity to show what he can do....might be a more potent bat than Russell....
  4. I think it's awesome that Doc Brown wants to throw out the first pitch if the Cubs make the World Series.
  5. Dude hasn't even hit puberty yet man...take it easy on him.
  6. Exactly. If some ******* showers me with beer and hits me with a beer can - I'm furious and telling security whether I'm holding a baby or a beer myself. If you're too stupid or drunk to control yourself at an amazing baseball game - go play in traffic.
  7. Apologize for my dumness
  8. I know most here don't believe in Sanchez as a starter. I'm curious if the new cutter/slider he developed late (which appears to be a plus pitch) changes your opinion. I fully expect the answer is no because his control is still a massive issue, but I'm curious.
  9. Holy f*** you're clueless. Did the wife miss the board and hit you a couple of times or something?
  10. You can't be serious man. That baffles me. The best thing about a baseball game is seeing a 5-14 year old enjoying a baseball game. Hoping to catch a fly ball or get an autograph, asking their father questions about the game and developing a bond that will last a lifetime. It doesn't get better than that.
  11. Man it completely changes your life - vast majority of the time for the better. Think about how much you loved the Jays before last night. Now think about how you felt about the Jays when Bats hit the bomb last night.....that's the type of difference a kid can make.
  12. That's a good movie...
  13. My bad - I was saying it's dumb NOT to have ear protection on your baby. That's a given guys - although reading back - I did not articulate that very well.
  14. Depends what ages you're talking about. You can't really get babysitters for kids under 6 months old - even up to a year it's hard man.
  15. I tend to applaud parents who don't let a newborn "end" their social life. I have friends who had kids and I didn't see them for 4 years because they couldn't break routine and though their child would parish if not contained within a bubble. To be honest - kids under 6 months old are extremely easy to look after. All they do is eat, sleep and s*** in a 2 hour cycle - the issue is that sequence continues throughout the night. You can basically take them anywhere without them being much of a nuisance to your enjoyment. You want to see a nuisance? Take a 2 or 3 year old with you. Total. utter. chaos. I hear the concern re: ear protection - that's just dumb. I don't think jumping around poses much danger (despite popular belief by those people without kids - they aren't china dolls) and I'd love to believe we live in a world where you don't have to worry about being showered with beer cans, beer and debris at a sporting event (however, people are idiots). I personally don't think I'd do it, but I don't think it's as bad as some of you people make it out to be.
  16. For the life of me - I never in a million years thought we'd be considering whether Pillar would be the ALDS MVP. WHAT a season. I whole heartily love the man. I don't think he's a 5 WAR player - but he WILL forever have a spot in my heart!
  17. unfortunately, Buehrle isn't that hard on lefties or he'd be an ideal LOOGY to have. We really have a hole with Cecil hurt.
  18. Likely said already (I'm not reading 160 pages). But when he hurt his knee, Stro said the comeback would be legendary...he was right. How amazing is this kid?
  19. One of those "where were you when" moments you'll never forget
  20. Did Jose just cement his spot on the level of excellence? I think he did. Stro starts his journey to be there one day too
  21. Thanks man. It was pretty awesome were sitting in the lazyboy together and with 2 outs in the 9th he says "let's stand up daddy". So we stood in the living room and cheered and danced around like a pair of 5 year olds after the last out. My 3 year old boy didn't really grasp what was going on but he started dancing on the coffee table! Special night - all of it combined put me to tears...lets f***ing do this boys!
  22. I'm in the same boat...it hurts, although I did get to watch it with my 5 year old who loves baseball and who really got into the jays is year. Luckily for me, that's truly a night I'll never forget
  23. Just curious if you've ever played competitive baseball.
  24. Just stop man. Hamels just threw Sunday to help them clinch the division and would be on 3 days rest to pitch Game 1. They get him Game 2 and Game 5 on full rest - that's their best option.
  25. That's some terrible assuming sir. Hamels will be throwing Game 5 on full rest if needed - that's a guarantee.
