  1. It's like TB went to Fangraphs, searched the Rangers rookie ball teams and picked the 3 best hitters. All 3 of them raked in 2019. Can Hernandez stick at C? Looks like he's played C, 1st and RF in the minors
  2. I get your point, but if you compare 1 year of Lynn to half a season by Chapman...Dunning isn't the 28th overall prospect in baseball (which Torres was) and yet the White Sox still might end up regretting that move!
  3. All fair points, but I think the key remains that you can't swing and miss too much. Heyward and Quintana were big misses. Eloy and Torres don't get moved for Quintana and Chapman these days (funny how quickly that changed).
  4. Probably not, but one of the big positives in Kim over Semien is he's only 25 so if you get him for 4 years, you should get his prime years, which align nicely with our window. Semien is entering his age 31 season, so he'd be more of a short term filler - and we have no idea if he has any interest in moving to 3rd (if the Jays wanted to move him there).
  5. You should prepare to be disappointed then.
  6. If you want depression - go have a look the list of major FA signings and see how they faired...
  7. I guess. Plus Gilbert and then Lewis, Crawford, Sheffield and White at the ML level. I guess that's something.
  8. Did I miss something? What do they have going on now?
  9. Agreed. I think it would be great for the Pirates to be good again. Great stadium, good history and great uniforms. I wish you could take the TB front office and move it to Pittsburgh.
  10. I got 18 out of 20. Got screwed on a backup slider I thought was a splitter.
  11. 4.4 WAR in 2019...
  12. Interesting things like throw his slider 83.4% of the time. That is insane. It is dirty though...
  13. https://www.wlns.com/top-stories/twins-class-aa-team-pensacola-blue-wahoos-list-stadium-on-airbnb-for-1500-per-night/ Saw that in the news today. Don't care about the airbnb component too much, but that is one really nice AA ball park in an incredible location. I looked it up on a map and it looks like there are tons of restaurants, bars, etc. all around the diamond on the water. What a great setup!
  14. As much as I like Gurriel and think there's still upside there at a very affordable price. I can't argue with this one bit. If he's a chip to shore up a more critical position like SS, CF or even SP, then I think you have to go for it.
  15. Apparently the Pirates wanted Kirk as the centerpiece of the reported Musgrove trade at the deadline last year.
  16. The question is whether Ross Stripling can be anything for us.
  17. According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, MLB instructed clubs in a memo last week "to proceed under the assumption" that the designated hitter will not be used in the National League next year. This nugget was revealed as part of Rosenthal's notes column on Monday. It came within the greater context of a question of roster size and how it might be impacted by the Rule 5 Draft. MLB implemented the DH in the NL this year due to COVID-19, an effort aimed at reducing the workload on starting pitchers. The uncertainty over the situation has cast a large shadow over the early part of the offseason, as a number of free agents could see their markets slashed in half. Nelson Cruz stands out the most, but Marcell Ozuna could also factor in here. Similarly, a team like the Mets could alter their offseason plans with both Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith in-house. There's always the chance something is negotiated which keeps the DH in the NL -- the players certainly wouldn't mind that -- but the owners would have to get something in return, with expanded playoffs one obvious possibility. f***ing Manfred can't get anything right.
  18. Lindor is really good at baseball - like all aspects of baseball and is probably just reaching his prime offensively (yes the defense and base running will decline). I also love that he's a great character player and a batter who doesn't strike out a ton. Lindor at SS probably makes Bo well above average at 2nd or 3rd and would immediately make our infield defense elite. There's a s*** ton to like about this fit. The real question is the cost (both in terms of prospects and money).
  19. I'm certainly no expert, but I have to think there are ways to change the spin on your pitches (without using substances). The amount of effort, release point, arm angle, grip, etc. would all change it. Didn't Bauer shorten his arm motion to change the spin rates? or am I dumb? Interesting to hear that feedback from Boddy (I'd never heard that). Is it just too difficult to create individual plans for players? It seems really inefficient to just have the same plan for everyone on the team and just hope the majority of them thrive. Is Boddy trying to change this in Cincy?
  20. Fair enough. Zeuch was just a random example. Replace him with Player Y who's not having success in the upper minors or the ML level. I'd like to say that making every effort to make a pitcher the absolute most valuable they can be would be viewed as a plus when players are choosing who to sign with - but I am over simplifying how difficult it can be to change your mechanics like that. That probably explains why most are truly at the cross roads of their career before they try the dramatic change.
  21. I get it. I'm just surprised teams aren't all over their failing prospects to try these more drastic changes more often. I get the player needs to buy into it - but it shouldn't be a tough sell. "TJ Zeuch - it turns out your skill set is built for 2007. You're highly unlikely to have any major league career if we continue down the same path. We'd like you to throw 4 seamers and work on A, B, and C moving forward to create improved velocity and spin. We can't guarantee this will work, but we think it's worth trying if you want to carve out a ML career. You alternative is to ride the buses in the minors or for us to cut you"
  22. JTR is 2 years under than Springer (entering his age 30 season, 32 for Springer). Springer clearly has the better bat and some might suggest he'll age more gracefully (making the move to RF at some point). Both are studs.
  23. Never said it was magical. This was all premised on Joe Gatto (not the guy from Impractical Jokers) going from a s***** AA pitcher who got released, to a flame throwing reliver (throwing 98+) and landing a guaranteed ML contract after reinventing himself at Driveline. If he's now transformed himself into a legit pitcher - don't you think the Angels are kicking themselves for not being able transform him while he was in their system? Shouldn't teams be taking all their failed pitching prospects and putting them through a similar program, trying to develop impact relivers. I guess maybe we are and they've already tried this s*** with Zeuch and he just sucks.
  24. I don't disagree with this and while there is some value in the guy who can provide that back end rotation depth...why wouldn't they send him to Driveline and see if they could transform him into a power arm?
