I think you write this one off and regroup next year when you're back in Toronto. The question is do you trade Lowry and retool with a core of Siakam, FVV, OG, a lottery pick + a TON of cap space with supplemental guys like Norm, Boucher, Flynn, Davis, etc.

Do they? Hasn't Boucher been really good this year? I'll admit I don't have a great eye for telling who's good and who's bad defensively, but he looks like a more athletic Ibaka...while acknowledging he probably gets exposed against heavier, stronger forwards. Bayes and Len blow offensively - but so did Gasol last year. Are they both a significant downgrade defensively from 2019-20 Gasol too?

Unless there's a huge interest payment included, deferring money is a huge benefit to ownership - and it only benefits the player if they are really awful with money. $1M in 2035 is worth much less than $1M in 2020. Any player with the ability to invest should want the money as soon as possible. Compound interest is powerful.

You may be correct (and it may be the right call), but the Owner isn't going to tell the media anything different. They don't want teams to know they are eager to dump Wentz as it will hurt his trade value.

I read an article on various potential trades. I think one to Miami is the best fit...although I'm not sure they'd need to give up the 18th pick too unless Houston really hates Tua (and they likely don't make this trade unless they believe in him).

Apparently his relationship with Wentz was also beyond repair - although rumours are the Wentz was a total dick about being benched, acting like a prima donna. Still, the organization might want to keep the option of keep Wentz open. Might be a good time to get the f*** out of Philly though.

It will be interesting what the high performance team decides for him this year as they clearly coddled him with kids gloves last year.

I agree - most of our best SP depth needs to end up in our bullpen....and I suspect those guys (Merryweather, Hatch, Murphy, etc.) will end up as some of our best options. The question is - does this impact their ability to develop as starters? It seems the thought process on this is constantly changing.

I think he's certainly earned that. He pushes the ball down the field a lot better than most backups.

I agree with this, but with the understanding he probably isn't signing an extension (which may decrease the cost to acquire him). But those are the same reasons the Cubs probably keep him (unless they get a good package).

I wonder if this plays into teams decisions to sign him or not. If MLB does crack down on substances, are you getting the 2019 version? Do teams know which pitchers are using it? do they know which pitchers can still dominate without it? Does it benefit some more than others? or is everyone using it and thus there will just be a massive adjustment league wide. This s*** is complicated.

I believe the report said the Jays original offer was $115M. For all we know, they have already countered with higher values - or maybe they are sticking to their guns on this. Who knows. I don't think we should get too fixated on the #'s.

I've long suspected that some teams were doing this. I wonder how many teams are and if it's given the an advantage. Given all the player movement, you'd expect it would be somewhat limited as a player moving from a team with the scientific substance would soon realize his new team is just slapping Bullfrog Sunscreen and rosin together and hoping for the best. The 'good s***' would probably spread fast around the league.

What ever happened to Bauer wanting 1 year deals? Give him 1 yr $45M. I guess we really want to lock him in for at least the next 3-4 years. I kind of expect him to sign a really complicated deal with a ton of opt-outs.

you're assuming what "somewhat less than $150M" means... My advice, don't get so caught up on all of this, you'll just end up being upset. It's all reports and who knows what (if anything) is true. Just relax. It certainly seems like teams will benefit by being patient this offseason. There don't seem to be many buyers and there are lots of quality players available. The Jays have flexibility to take advantage of this, which could accelerate AND extend their competitive window if they play this right. Teams that say f*** it, it's only money and overpay almost always regret it. -

If he'd take $125M, I can't imagine the Jays to lose him over $10M ($2M/yr). -
What Watson did with the talent around him this year was incredible. I agree - there's no way Houston moves him.

I agree. I think Lindor is a FANTASTIC player. A cornerstone, face of the franchise guy, but guess what? We already have a FANTASTIC shortstop who's a cornerstone, face of the franchise guy on the team! Hard to justify moving all that prospect capital for Lindor (no matter how good he is) without an extension - especially given the market is flooded with SS's right now/next year. It's frustrating to see big names fall off the board, but I'm going to reserve judgement until the offseaon is over to see what the FO has in store. I do believe this is the right opportunity and time to add FWIW.
