He's one of the worst tactitians in baseball and since that seems to be the main beef people (legitimately) have with Gibbons, it would be like going from the frying pan into the fire. Pretty sure that's why JH brought him up in the first place. Not as a serious suggestion but as a joke for those familiar with his managing.
Well if you want to blame anyone for the outrage over the towel, blame Zaun. He was the one who brought it up like it was a bid geal without providing any context or details. For awhile I thought Holland had literally wiped himself.
I don't think the point here is that Holland did anything wrong. He didn't. The larger point is that it's a bit odd for him to be an advocate for a more buttoned down baseball culture since that's not how he approaches the game at all.
I'm not a big fan of these early Steamer projections and the effect they will have on trade negotiations but that's one bubble I'm not sad to see get burst.
Steamer is better than the crowd at projecting peformance. The only thing I'm saying is that people are better at predicting playing time. You're extrapolating falsehoods from what I'm saying.
IIRC, the best method for projecting playing time is crowd sourcing and STEAMER on that front, is, for lack of a better word, a steaming pile. A crowd sourced prediction of playing time with a STEAMER performance projection is optimal.
Thole is a perfectly acceptable backup catcher. Wasting a roster spot on him as a third catcher sucks but Thole himself only sucks about the same as your typical backup c.
You wouldn't really have to. If someone wants him, they can trade for him and exercise the option themselves. If no one wants to trade for him before that then it's probably not worth it to exercise the option in case they do later on unless you're comfortable with Dickey at that salary in the first place.
If someone grabs him, you still have to find those innings for 2016. I care more about that than a future draft pick. I mean at least you get something for him but it's the worst case IMO.
Option year on Dickey is 12 million. Q.O. on Estrada is something around 17. Not it's not the same money but it has nothing to do with the reason you stated.
No it's not but the assumption that he can repeat this year's performance is a tenuous one. The more salient point is that he might not have to be as good to justify the money.
