  1. The issue isn't that they think Colby is going to break out. The issue is that the team isn't ready to throw in the towel for 2013. You may not agree, you may think it's downright foolish but when you go all-in like the Jays just did this off-season, you don't give up the ghost this quickly no matter how bad things look. The inevitable downgrade from Rasmus to Gose is something the Jays will stave off until the trading deadline at the earliest. Until then, they will continue to hope for a miracle turnaround and sell that hope to the fans and to themselves.
  2. Dave Cameron of Fangraphs did a study on the impact of moving your best CF to a corner. He found that the impact was less than you might think. Then again, it's Dave Cameron so I wouldn't consider anything he says conclusive. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/does-outfield-alignment-actually-matter/
  3. He'll have to play well without the benefit of plate appearances. He's mostly just going to fill in defensively for Melky.
  4. "Well you dont use your teams best positional prospect ( I dont think he actually qualifies as a prospect but im going to use the term regardless for arguments sake) as a role player" Sure you do it it's just to fill in a temporary need. The Rangers used Profar as a pinch runner last year. This is no big deal. Again, I don't understand why people keep reading something into this. He'll be here for a week or so, he'll get maybe one start and life will proceed as normal. If anything it will probably help Gose get out of his own head a bit and take a break from his struggle in Buffalo.
  5. "What I do like about this move is that lets say Sierra/Negrych/anyone else plays well, what are we going to do when everyone's healthy? At least if Gose plays well we have an option" I don't know where your coming from with this stuff? Gose is going to be in a role player. The team has even said as much. He's going back to the minors when Davis comes back. He won't get an opportunity to stick with the club (nor should he frankly).
  6. Nobody and I mean nobobdy is better qualified for the role that Gose will be used in. You literally couldn't ask for a better defensive replacement. I don't know why people keep over-analyzing this move. It has nothing to do with Mottola or Gose's prospects long terms. The team could use Gose's skills in the short term and that's what they are doing. It's a temporary move. Very minor in the grand scheme of things.
  7. Nothing reeks of desperation quite like demoting Mikey Storey. You really are a clown.
  8. Yep. I don't understand why this move is controversial. While Davis is out, the team needs somebody to be a defensive replacement and pinch runner for Melky. Gose is ideal for that role (better than Davis actually). The fact that he isn't hitting in AAA is not really the point, he's not going to get starts. He's just going to be Melky's caddy for awhile. The team has been pressing it's luck by waiting so long to do this. They needed another OF a lot more than they needed f***ing Mikey Storey.
  9. Kind of relieved you turned it down. Having both of those guys somewhat makes up for the fact that I don't fully have faith in either. The prospects of being fully committed to just one was making me nervous.
  10. I could probably spare one of my catchers. They are both low end guys not worth Walker who I'm not really interested in anyways.
  11. Is there a way to access this board through a numeric URL so that it doesn't get blocked? One of the great features of the old board was that it didn't get blocked at work. This one has a great URL but there's a downside to having "messageboard" right in there. I also kind of feel bad for the casual fans who will pop up on the old board now and not really have an opportunity to learn anything from the discussion. I will probably still post there from time to time.
  12. Hum... Doesn't look like the "reply to" feature works here.
  13. Oh... That was you. Yeah I totally missed the second part of that. I wasn't going to do a straight up for prospects deal but I would have at least checked out your roster. I'm glad I'm back in this thread. You get more deals done when you just put things out in the open here.
  14. I was kind of awol for a bit with a friend's wedding but I thought I had gotten back to everyone who made me offers. I have a very hard time parsing who's who in this league so I may have missed your message but I don't recall seeing Buxton's name. One of the reasons I finally reluctantly joined this board is that I was feeling like my communication with the rest of the league was breaking down. In the case of Scherzer, I was looking to swap MLB assets and I still don't get the impression that I was going to get that done with anyone other than NJH. I guess in hindsight it's obvious that in a setup like this if you put a player on the market and aren't specific about what you're looking for, people will assume you just want to do a MLB style seller's deal so I'm largely to blame for putting myself in a position to get offers that weren't at all what I was looking for.
  15. I may have gotten you confused with Boxy. I had a lot of talks with him but we were never close.
  16. Geez, he was on my trading block for weeks. NJH was the first to make a credible offer.
  17. I figured I would get killed for this deal but I also felt I needed to cash in Scherzer sooner rather than later. In an ideal world, I would have packaged him in a deal for an elite asset but that wasn't in the cards. Even though I feel like NJH was cheap with the compensation picks, he came close enough to Scherzer's on-paper value for me to pull the trigger. The second part of this deal is that I'm gambling on Jose Fernandez to mitigate the impact on my major league roster.
  18. What if a player signs in the middle of the draft? I presume if they weren't eligible when we started, they are off limits for the entire draft. I wouldn't want anyone to try to pull a fast one.
  19. The rules state "Only players who have never played an MLB game and who belong to an MLB parent team are eligible to be drafted." If I interpret this correctly, that means that any IFA signed as part of the current signing period before our draft is eligible? I don't know how likely it is for a major IFA to sign between now and then but I thought I would clear up whether this is something I should monitor or if I can just forget about the current crop of IFAs.
