  1. Wow I forgot about that. Should have just kept Rojas and got him a platoon partner.
  2. 3B- Bregman 1B- Vlad LF- Taters (S) DH- Alonso SS- Bo RF- Springer CF- Varsho (L) C- Kirk 2B- Gimenez (L) Getting swept by the Dodgers in the WS will be easy to make
  3. What if we get them both like the Giants got both Snell and Chapman last year
  4. Yeah it seems pretty likely he's gone but it's not 100 percent certain.
  5. Yeah the hope for Scherzer is that he didn't get a normal offseason after having back surgery in December of last year. That messed with his preparation and other annoying injuries popped up. The hopeful take is that even with all the nagging injuries, he was still pretty effective. And with a normal offseason he should be able to better prepare himself to get through 120+ innings. He did have a showcase session recently and the Jays liked what they saw. I can only assume his velocity was encouraging and the stuff looked good so hopefully he's on track.
  6. I don't think he'd be very good at it tbh. Usually, starting pitchers who turn into good relievers are guys that have an elite pitch that they can over rely on in one inning stints. Manoah doesn't have a pitch like that. Even in his 2022 season his slider got a 118 Stuff+ score. Since then, even that pitch has been below average along with all of his others. He was always more of a kitchen sink guy which helps him as a starter.
  7. Remember last March when the Giants signed two Boras clients to one year deals? Who is Alonso and Bregman's agent again?
  8. His game does seem like something Ross would be interested in High contact hitter and plays solid OF defense
  9. Saw some "Jays interested in Verdugo" crap on twitter. He doesn't appear to be any better than Barger or Roden so I doubt it's true. So baseball wise he's not a fit. I also can't stand him and all the comments were about how much they hate him and how he's a douche. But is there a reason why we think he's a douche? I can't really remember anything that he's done. I just know I don't like him but I don't know why.
  10. If Alonso doesn't sign with the Jays he's a coward. Steve Cohen is publicly insulting him and the fact he's even still considering the Mets is making me question if we even want him. He's obviously got low confidence. But if he signs with the Jays I will take it all back.
  11. One thing about the bullpen that I keep forgetting is that guys with splitters tend to do fine against lefties. There's barely any difference in Swanson and Sandlin splits so we might be able to get away with just Little as the only lefty.
  12. Yeah it's kind of tough to top Will Wagner's projections unless its Bregman or Alonso or via trade. They aren't stuck with Wagner either. Take Wagner out, move Taters to DH and play in-house guys in LF. Loperfido and Barger have loud tools. Schneider could still become a solid shortside platoon guy. Lukes might actually be okay. Then they could put some more money into the bullpen as you said and save the rest for the trade deadline. But all that said, I still think they will make a trade. We don't have high impact prospects but we do have tons of big league ready guys and we pulled off the Donaldson and Chapman trades this way. One of these teams that doesn't spend money but also isn't throwing in the towel would love to get a package of 2 Buffalo Boys they can plug in as starters along with a couple of prospects.
  13. Yeah when the team has good and motivated ownership it can support a top payroll.
  14. Going to be a disastrous fielder at 3B. Has no arm and can barely play 2B.
  15. What a joke franchise
  16. Jays offseason sure has been fun: In on two of the biggest FAs of all time until the very end (ok not so fun) Trade for the best defensive infielder in baseball Sign a setup man who touches 99 Sign one of the best relievers in MLB to be the closer Sign a switch hitter coming off a 44 homer season Sign a SP who is a first ballot HoFer
  17. Yeah that math checks out to me. Sounds crazy but it seems like the Jays are seriously considering spending this much!
  18. The CBT tax works in 2 ways. A blanket tax on all overages depending on how many years you are over the tax. The Jays are a first year offender so they pay a 20% tax on all overages. The second way the tax applies is the surcharge thresholds. There are various tiers depending on how much the team is over. But those surcharges only apply to the amounts you are over. For example, if you spend $302 mil you are in the highest tier and a 60 percent surcharge applies. But that surcharge only applies to the money above the threshold. So you'd pay a 60 percent surcharge on the 1 million that you would be over. So going over the thresholds a little bit isn't a big deal, but if you go over them a lot it is. Especially once the Jays hit 281 million. Every dollar they spend between 281 mil and 301 million will carry a 42.5% surcharge. Here's the surcharge tiers: $261 million to $281 million: 12 percent surcharge $281 million to $301 million: 42.5 percent surcharge for first year; 45 percent for each consecutive year after that $301 million or more: 60 percent surcharge
  19. Yeah I don't see why the Jays would stop after signing Scherzer. I'm confident they'll add another bat.
  20. I really hope Scherzer is healthy. Baseball is a sport rooted in history and it's fun having HoFers on your team, even if it's just for a season or two at the end of their careers (as long as they are contributing!).
  21. Ross has had a good offseason. Yeah he whiffed on Soto and Sasaki, the latter of which was especially rough with the Straw trade factored in. But he's been patient and it's paid off with Santander and Scherzer. But he also jumped the market on relievers and got Garcia and Hoffman on deals that make them look like steals when Carlos Estevez who projects for an ERA over 4.00 is getting 2 years 22 million.
  22. Yeah I think he has an extra gear that Verlander and Morton don't have anymore in that you would be comfortable with him in a playoff rotation.
